shocking service, more interested to sign you up for a mortgage than book you in for a property visit

I recently contacted the London Muswell Hill branch about visiting a property to buy. Harry in question was more interested for me to see their mortgage broker, he prioritised this over the visit of the flat. I never got an appointment to visit it and since their broker was hassling me I declined any dealing with them. Extremely off putting and work ethic questionable. If you are a seller run away as their priority is not to sell properties but sign you up with their broker. Shocking behaviour.

Illegal conditional selling across…

Illegal conditional selling across their SE London branches.

To sellers thinking of listing with Barnard Marcus I would recommend you do not.

They will likely advertise the fact that they can offer buyers a full in-house service, covering mortgage brokerage and conveyancing services and that this ensures transparency, commitment and progress through the process however in recent experience of buying a property sold through this branch this is a loose term that results in what I think is illegal "conditional selling".

We offered (and subsequently bought and moved in to a house) sold through Barnard Marcus and were put under immense pressure to use their in-house services. Not only is the pressure an extremely negative aspect of an exciting process (to the extent we considered pulling out, clearly not great for sellers and their chains) their in-house services are overly expensive and un-competitive from a financing POV (paying for a mortgage application fee before you've been accepted!!!???), again, giving perfectly valid buyers perfectly valid reasons for pulling out.

We managed to progress our offer through Barnard Marcus using our long-term mortgage broker and conveyancing solicitor instead of their in-house services (which is incredible to even write, as as the estate agent, they're legally obliged to do), after a carefully worded email.

The sellers were using conveyancing services that were part of the Sequence Group, and during the buying process the claim of transparency, commitment and progress offered by their in-house services completely disappeared with Barnard Marcus offering no transparency and progress, failing to keep to simple commitments and admitting they had little if any control over the conveyancing process, the opposite of what they'd sold as their benefits to the seller and us.

To would be buyers, if the house you've found is being sold by Barnard Marcus, I feel for you, be prepared for a rough and expensive ride, or a rough one if you manage to buy from them using your own services. If the house is being sold by multiple estate agents, offer through the other one!

I've had the displeasure of dealing with two groups of poor estate agents recently. Foxtons were great however, I'd recommend them.

Kecia Sales Progression

Kecia in sales progression was 100% the most outstanding and professional link in our chain, without whom exchange of contracts this afternoon would not have happened. Thank you Kecia for keeping us updated the whole way through, you have no idea how much your efforts were appreciated.

Kecia in the sales progression dept was amazing throughout my sale process. Even though I was not her client (I was 4 properties above her clients) she was the only agent in the chain who understood customer service and the importance of keeping everyone updated. Without her support my chain would 100% have fallen through. She is brilliant…. If you are her manager reading this she deserves a pay rise.

Ready to go to court as a result of Barnard Marcus auction where I bid on a property and seller didn't have the right to sell. They don't do due diligence on their sellers so now in a position I've paid £20k deposit with an agreed completion date where the seller can't even complete - thanks Barnard Marcus for doing your due diligence (there is a regulator in your line of biz and will be in touch with them) Liz George

I will never deal with this…

I will never deal with this agent(Barnard Marcus Chiswick)again and advise others to stay away from them. All they care about is taking their commission. If you have problems with your tenants, they are never there to help. They placed a terrible tenant in my flat who left it damaged and neglected the garden, causing complaints from neighbors. Whenever I tried to contact the office, there was no response. When I visited the office, I was told that the manager and staff were in meetings and had to wait for a long time, only to have my issues ignored.

The whole point of an auction is the…

The whole point of an auction is the uncertain gamble of a bargain. I watched today for one hour and only half of the property’s where sold. The winning bidder had apparently not reached the target of what the seller wanted. The place I looked out for had a guide price of £130000.the winning bid of £170000 was apparently not enough, with no mention beforehand of any reserve.when i asked why putting in that case such low guide price i was told it was to encourage Interest.
I can see why some people want a minimum price but then have the guts to tell us before.
If this way of doing auctions isn’t challenged,in no time the vast majority will be like this?
I can see how the auctioneers tell their clients;
Put it in the auction, lots of people will look at it.and if you don’t get what you want, then we won’t sell to the bidder.

A cheating and dangerous auction agent

A cheating and dangerous auction agent. I bought a property in Blackpool in 2019. They advertised the property as a freehold worthed 10,000 at 75-77 Caunce Street, FY1 3ND

I did not see legal pack properly and then ended up with the bills including their auctionee fee of 35,000 pounds.

The nasty thing of the property I bought turned out a long leasehold 999 years and I have to pay rent, service charge etc and that is very surprising and dangerous .

It caused and ruined my financial aspect and life. It took almost 4 years for years to repay the debt.

I take them to the property authority but they did not do much. I intended to take them to the Court for misleading the public but have no money to pay legal fee.

The authority should shut down this nasty auction agent.

After you did so bad and dangerous things, karma will come back to you one day and let karma do all the work.

Meeting Megan from the Epsom branch.

I was told I had to move out of my rental in May and felt anxious at the thought of finding something suitable. I had the pleasure of meeting Megan from the Epsom branch. Megan has gone above and beyond to help me. She always kept in touch, she has been reassuring and always approachable and professional. When she went on holiday, she put me in contact with her colleague Courtney as prior to her going away, I saw a property advertised that I really wanted. Megan made sure that everything was in place before she went away and took time out of her day on holiday to touch base with her colleague about this property. Thank you so much Megan!

They simply lie in the ads

They simply lie in the ads! I've just "viewed" a house that I didn't even enter because the ad said that the property had a off street parking, but on site it turned out to be a nasty lie. Terrible practice by this company, they just wasted my time!

Professional letting service with great customer service

I had some tenants do a runner on me in February 2024, and that was whilst they were in the care of one of London's top letting agencies. So, you can imagine I was not ready to hand my property over to another agency easily. Enter Lauren McDowell and Christopher Robson from Battersea Branch - a cool, calm and collected pair that swept me under their wing and very soon found me some replacement tenants - nicely vetted and decent! The whole process was stress-free, quick and professionally executed.
Thanks, Lauren and Christopher! It is good to know that you are my go-to people throughout the letting process, not like some other letting agents, where every time you phone, someone else is dealing with your matter and does not have a clue. Look forward to a long mutually beneficial relationship!

I used Barnard Marcus Redhill to sell a…

I used Barnard Marcus Redhill to sell a flat via the ‘I am sold’ auction site.

BM initially got the lease period incorrect and even though they were told they still went to the market with this incorrect information .

Throughout the auction process there was a disconnect with BM and I am sold auction house. I was advised that I should be chasing I am sold to see whether people who were interested had made contact. Very difficult to get hold of I am sold.

We were then advised to reduce the asking price and the reserve which we did . We eventually held an auction but there were no bidders .
We withdraw from the market and sacked I am sold and BM .

They still continue to market my flat at the wrong price even though the auction period has lapsed and they have been dismissed.

Do not use BM and I am sold, is my advice .
