Information provided by various external sources

Bassets is an independent, award winning sales and letting agent with offices in Salisbury, Amesbury and Tisbury plus access to the lucrative London market through their membership with the Guild of Property Professionals. David and Mary Clayton set up Bassets in 2002. They weren’t sales or letting agents by trade, but after receiving disappointing service when selling and letting out their own properties, they were sure they could do things a lot better. Because of these past experiences, customer service is at the heart of Bassets. Bassets is committed to providing customers with expert knowledge and professionalism at all times. They work proactively to market your property through the use of traditional and modern marketing techniques to ensure a suitable buyer or tenant is secured. Bassets provide clients with peace of mind and aim to take as much of the stress away as possible.

Professional, reliable, pleasant and helpful for 7 years

We have rented from Bassets for 7 years and it was a great experience throughout. They were professional, reliable, pleasant and helpful. Particular thanks to Luke Russell and Ginny Otton, who provided us with much assistance when the house was damaged in January. Ginny immediately took action to repair and restore the property and was very capable and reassuring. Thank you!

Appalling and shameful! Don't trust

They don't respond to calls or emails. You have to chase them constantly and you can never speak to the same person. There is no communication amongst themselves so you have to repeat the same information several times to different people. They are slow and without interest to help you. They started referencing us, then told us we had to do it all over again because they weren't aware of a policy of the landlord which should be with a different company. Our income both my partner and I exceeded what they asked for. But after wasting our time, they turned us down anyway saying that our "net profits" weren't enough. And categorically refused to include and count the income we earned abroad which counts for over 50% of our income in that tax year. How does that make sense? How is this fair? We provided all documentation required including an A1 form.

We have previously been excellent tenants with excellent track records. Before referencing took place, we proposed 6 months in advance and a guarantor. But they refused twice stating that the insurance policy of the landlord didn't allow them to take 6 months rent payment in advance...

We consulted various landlords in London who say they aren't aware of this kind of policy. Likely all lies...

Whatever we tried to do or offer, they wouldn't give us the house.

The only thing that comes to mind is red-tape and racism. They might be "protecting" the area of foreigners which we are. Especially from a region of the UK that voted "out". We might be wrong but no one could find a reason why they would reject our proposals and waste our time so much when at the beginning they said everything looked fine. It like the moment they found out we weren't British, the treatment and narrative got worse.

That's our experience from the AMESBURY, Wiltshire Office.

Thank you for your review,

We have looked over the referencing paperwork and can confirm the reason your application was unsuccessful was purely down to failing of financial checks.

We would highlight you would be wrong in your assumption that this was unsuccessful due to your nationality. Your offer was originally accepted based on the completed application & identification provide (for Government Right to rent Check purposes) on the 12th March. Sadly, on completion of the independent reference, your application was declined on the 31st March.

The income originally stated by yourselves, in comparison to that at the completion of referencing showed a discrepancy of almost 50% of the figure you stated. Also the ‘Red-tape’ you refer to is actually the robust internal procedures Bassets has in place to ensure tenants are suitable.

To finalise, this has all been clarified in email correspondence to yourselves, explaining as to why we were unable to proceed with your application. If you would like to discuss this any further or make a formal complaint, please feel free to contact Head of Lettings – Quentin Thatcher.

Terrible company..

Terrible company... DPA breaches, lied to numerous times, broken promises and false accusations! They forgot to do a house inspection so landed it on us at the last minute at a very inconvenient time and so we were threatened with refusing access.. definitely NOT the case, simply asked to move to a more convenient time! So glad to be out of that house and from using them, will never use or recommend them for lettings or sales.
