After discovering this website displaying custom designed cakes I ended up being 'cakefished' the cake equivalent of being 'catfished'

After discovering the website which showed custom-designed cakes, I completed the website contact form, followed up with an email, and then a telephone call. I asked B at Bbkakes for a custom cake to celebrate my Mum's 90th birthday, based on a picture I submitted, requesting the top tier as a sewing machine (to commemorate my Mum's 75-year career as a seamstress). I emailed B a picture of the design of the cake and specifically asked that the top tier must be a Singer Sewing Machine, along with scissors, cotton reels, and cloth. Based on the custom cakes displayed on the website, I said she should use her artistic talent to create the sewing machine but it must be a singer. Bbkakes have a very stringent list of terms and conditions, one of which is that the customer can request a design, and drawing of the cake being made at a cost of £5 and that the customer should avoid contacting Bbkakes because that will hinder getting the cake made. Three days before the agreed pick-up, I asked by email for a preview. B replied it has been a busy week so I will just have to wait until the pickup date. When I went to collect the cake the box was closed, I asked to see the cake and when she took the lid off I was in shock. The cake was a very poor representation of the picture I gave her, and instead of a sewing machine on the top tier, there were tiny sewing-themed cake toppers. I raised this issue with B but really there was nothing that could be done because the event was in a couple of hours. When I asked B why certain elements of the design were missing, she said that she opted for 'simplicity' fitting for a 90-year-old. It's a shame I am unable to attach a picture to this review, the top tier was so poorly done that my Mum couldn't make out what it was about! The next day I emailed B, I was surprised to get a reply but very disappointed by the response. She insisted that she met the requirements, even though it is clearly apparent she did not. She did not however provide an explanation for why she did not uphold her own terms and conditions in providing a preview when requested. I paid £355 for a custom cake but what I got was three victorian sponge cakes. I also raised an issue about the quality of the cake, it was a little dry and bland, B said she tasted it and it was fine. I put a slice in the fridge and within 24 hours it turned to 'stone' If there was a cake version of being 'catfished' I am a victim, maybe call it 'cakefished'. I only gave this review one star because there was a cake to collect!
