My daughter and I visited the Bella Sky…
My daughter and I visited the Bella Sky hotel for a one night getaway on 26th March and we had decided to spend a night at Bella Sky Hotel, to have dinner at Basalt or Sukaiba, and/or drinks at Sukaiba in the evening.
When I made the reservation online there were no warning messages informing that no restaurants were open/available....nothing...nor in the email confirmation there was any information related to closed restaurants. Otherwise, I would have canceled the booking for now.
Some time ago we visited Sukaiba for dinner and we were impressed and we have always wanted to come back and book an overnight stay with dinner. We remembered that it was rather fine dining and a dress code, so we had packed dresses etc. and we looked so much forward to our cosy getaway stay at Bella Sky Hotel.
We arrived at the reception at 15 oclock on 26 March, and during the check in, where I gave my credit card for payment, I asked the receptionist, if she could book at dinner time table at Basalt restaurant, or Sukaiba, I asked twice and she said that we could just go upstairs on 1st floor and book the table and that Sukaiba was closed.
Once we went to our room on18th floor, we immediately went back down to the 1st floor to book the table at the restaurant, but we could not find the restaurant Basalt, only something called Brasserie Martha that was closed.
We went back to the reception asking where is Restaurant Basalt and/or if Brasserie Marta would be open for dinner. The receptionist said ohhh ohhhh they are closed...like it was a sudden question....
We were rather puzzled, as I just asked her a few minutes earlier during our check in to help us book a table and were told to go upstairs to book the table ourselves. I said to her, if there are no restaurants open in the hotel, then we would like to check out and get our money back or a voucher to use later when restaurants were open again, as the whole idea for us was to stay in the hotel having a nice dinner and relaxing drinks upstairs.
The receptionist then said we could not check out and get our money back as we had already checked in.....again we were even more puzzled, but instead she offered us an upgrade, which only was a larger room on the 14th floor (the room was not impressive), which we accepted despite we already had booked a higher up room (18th floor) with City view. She also said we could then get a 20 % discount in the floor bar and that we could e.g. go outside to eat dinner in the neighborhood.
We went to the bar down stairs and got two caffe latte for 78 Dkk. and we went with our coffees to sit in the spot with the tables and chairs next to the bar so we could sit and decide what to do about our dinner situation...but immediately came running an asian man shouting rudely: you cannot sit there this is for eating only...I got really upset...as there were no one sitting there and we just wanted as hotel guests to drink our coffee for 10 minutes...That is the worst hotel experience and rude service ever, completely unexpected.
At 18 oclock we took a taxi to a restaurant nearby and paid 600 Dkk total for the taxi only.
Next morning, when we checked out, the receptionist asked for confirmation of the final amount incl. coffee and my credit card agin, I said, but we paid for the room already yesterday, as we could not check out as we were told that we had already paid and checked in, but it appeared that we did not pay after all the day before... The hotel only reserved the credit card number.....so I asked how come we would not have cancelled/checked out yesterday or perhaps gotten a voucher to use later once the restaurants are open again....nothing but silence...no reply...
Finally, I said to the receptionist that was just eager to deduct 1670 kr. for a night stay incl. 2 x Coffee (and not even offering the coffee for free).....that I would file a complaint. And apart from the disappointment over closed restaurants in Bella Sky, and being yelled at in the bar, I must say that this was a very low service level, inappropriate and incompetent service we encountered in Bella Sky hotel, not letting us to check out and /or offer us a voucher for the payment instead, payment that I made only upon checking out of the hotel.
The guest relations manager offered in an email us to come back and get 20% discount and a free drink in the Sukaiba restaurant… and free breakfast (that was awful and boring) but despite the offer, We will not be visiting Bella Sky again…
