Easy ordering process and great customer service

Order a shed from Berkshire Garden buildings, but had found it slightly cheaper from another Company up north. I sent a quick email to see if they would price match and got a call from Richard within hours offer to beat the price and I paid for the shed in the phone. Richard was really nice and the whole process was very smooth. I got an email directly from the ahed manufacturer withal a delivery date and it was delivered on that day. Great company, would use them again and much nicer than buying through a big company!

First Class

I ordered a Trimetals ‘Stowaway' unit from Berkshire Garden Buildings.
They offered a nice discount against ordering direct from Trimetals and the email responses from Richard, Roger and Aaron were always quick, helpful and polite. Even getting a holding response when they were busy with other things.
Delivery was direct from Trimetals with one part missing (extra bottom clasp/padlock), Aaron was particularly helpful in chasing Trimetals over the May Bank Holiday.
First class – all round.

Not good at keeping the customer satisfied

Thinking of purchasing from Berkshire Garden Buildings? My personal experience.

1. The only description of the Elite Titan greenhouse (and related accessories) was in the ELITE brochure. That portrayed the green water butts I thought I was ordering with my olive coloured greenhouse. But BLACK ones were delivered. There is nothing in the brochure which excludes liability for delivering a different coloured water butt than that portrayed in the brochure.
2. My contract was with BERKSHIRE GARDEN BUILDINGS ( hereafter “BGB” ) the manufacturer was ELITE. I have had no response from the latter albeit that it prides itself on 70 years of trading. All responses have been from BGB - expressing both its views and purportedly those of Elite. I am not sure which of the two are pulling the strings.
3. BGB refuses to accept that supplying black rather than green butts was a breach of contract. It rejects my contention that the content of the brochure gives rise to the obligation that goods sold should correspond with description pursuant to the Consumer Protection Act 1996.
4. It appears to seek comfort from the alleged fact that, as far as both it and Elite are concerned, I am the first person to complain about the bin colour not corresponding with that described in the brochure. I find that difficult to believe.
5. Initially BGB’s justification was that one could not purchase green butts with green stands ( hitherto and hereafter together referred to as”the water butts”. ) Nowhere in the brochure or the BGB contract was there anything to the effect that only black water butts can be supplied.
6. When I proved that green butts and stands were readily available on by Amazon and E Bay, there was a change of tack. It surprisingly advised that I could buy alternatives at a much cheaper price than I had paid!!!That was a truism. The black butts supplied ( manufacturer “ Wards “) are available at almost half the cost of the green ones supplied by BGB. That makes me wonder whether it is cheaper to source any add ons elsewhere. I went for a package thinking there were savings in doing so. My advice is to check to see whether or not it is indeed cheaper to go for a package.
7. In fairness to BGB ( particularly because its case is there is no legal liability to do so ) it readily agreed to refund the cost (£126.00 ie £63.00 x 2) but not until Elite had collected the black butts which it was prepared to do “at their own expense.” That was projected to be the 15th January 2024. That date has passed.
8. BGB relies on trade policy where a customer wishes to return goods without reasonable cause. I would not have bought the greenhouse had I been told that it would come with black butts. More than reasonable cause methinks!
9. BGB describes itself on its website, as “ a name you can trust “. That did not accord, in my experience, with keeping the customer satisfied. As said it was unwilling to accept legal liability. I am a barrister. It expressed irritation with my legalistic approach. I can well understand why that would be disconcerting. However, it was not that but its excuses, fobbing off and changes of position which so insulted my intelligence and compelled this review.
10. I suspect that we both consider the other to have adopted a petty stance. That may be so considering the amounts involved. I leave the reader to decide whether BGB’s response in my case would be of general application whatever the alleged fault or the monies in dispute?
