ATROCIOUS!!

Minus 5 stars if it were possible.

• Patio and driveway laid in 2019. Driveway left unfinished, patio was full of dips which left huge puddles. Company agreed to relay patio and return to finish driveway.
• Driveway was finished off and patio re-laid in 2021, used Covid as an excuse for the 2 year delay. Although this was a major factor there were times during that 2 year period when restrictions would have allowed the job to have been completed.
• New section was added to the driveway. The matching and finish were not perfect, but we accepted it. However, once checked we discovered 2 cracks right through the concrete, this was reported immediately.
• Patio was re-laid in 2 halves. The levels of the 2 halves didn’t match resulting in them having to cut a channel which they filled with a drain channel. We were not consulted until it was too late, it was not in the drawings and was not wanted by us as is extremely unsightly. The levels were still uneven around the length of the drain cover (3-4m), this left a tripping hazard so they took a grinder to the concrete and chamfered the higher levels off, the finish is therefore very poor.
• During relaying of the patio the underground clay pipe was damaged, at ground level. On notifying them, they insisted they were the experts in this field and would repair it. On the next visit, they repaired the damage and completed the patio. The next day it became apparent that raw sewage was leaking from the repaired pipe. On investigation the repair was ‘bodged’. I dismantled the soil pipe to find no physical connection between the damaged clay pipe and our soil pipe! A rubber connection was just hovering over the broken clay pipe! Unbelievable bodge!!! Again, this was reported immediately and the company asked for quotes to properly repair the damage, which we provided. We have since been told it won’t be dealt with.
• Use of aggressive commercial practice to force final payment in cash, even though we were not completely satisfied. We were on the phone for an hour negotiating a reduction in the cost due to not being happy with the workmanship and general finish (this was before the cracks and damaged clay pipe were discovered). During this call we were threatened with them pulling their men off site, not completing the work and losing our warranty, unless we paid the agreed amount in cash before the work had been completed. Once we did this the men finished the job.
• After numerous emails regarding our dissatisfaction, but mainly to get the clay pipe and cracks repaired, we received an email informing us that when we negotiated a reduced final payment (just £450 reduction on £8500 job) that ended the matter and we lost our guarantee and that no more correspondence would be entered into. At no point during the phone call were we told that if we agreed a reduced price we would lose our guarantee. We were threatened with this if we didn’t pay the cash.
• The reduced price was to compensate for the inconvenience of having to have the patio re-laid and for the poor workmanship and drain that was forced upon us. The clay pipe and cracks were not discovered until the next day after work had been completed, so were NOT part of the negotiations.
• The company will say that on negotiating a reduced payment we accepted the work as final. This was never the case and not agreed verbally or in writing. They suggested we use the agreed reduction to repair the underground clay pipe.
• On getting advice we have been told that these faults are part of our statutory rights and nothing to do with a guarantee any way.
My Google review has pictures. These will enable you to make your own decision on the standard of work.
I have been on this planet for many years, never before have I dealt with a company who has caused me so much stress and worry. The workmanship is atrocious and nothing short of shameful. The company are refusing to respond to us any further (they are not local to us unfortunately) however, I imagine they will respond to this!

We contacted the customer by telephone with regards to starting work on the replacement of the patio and if the customer was happy for us to continue. Team prepped the site and customer was happy with the work done and understood slight delay to concrete due to forecast seen.
We arranged to go back within ten days to concrete and returned within two days to wash off. At every stage of the work, we contacted the customer to discuss if he had any issues and was happy with the work done so far. He did mention when booking in the team to concrete about the damage to the soil pipe which we said we would inspect and repaired before we continued with any further work. After the concreting stage, we tried to contact the customer and he emailed to say all seems OK and will see it all when fully completed.
Customer mentioned when we arranged to go back to cut, wash & tidy the site that he would like a reduction on the final balance due to some delays, he accepted that COVID had played a major part in the delays to return to site as well as the weather, but still felt we should consider a reduction. He also mentioned that there was a small lip on the adjoining pour on the patio, which needed attention. The team on returning to site discussed all options with the customer.
The customer was not fully happy with the final finish to the patio so we offered to stop any further work until we could resolve the issues to his satisfaction. After lengthy conversations between us and the customer we finally agreed to reduce the contract by £450 in full and final settlement. He negotiated a price reduction and agreed that he would accept the work done and that ended the contract with us. At no time was the customer aggressively forced into making any payments. We would happily left site to return later to agree the work and complete the contract to their satisfaction. The customer wanted the work completed and so we entered a conversation with regards to a reduction, the customer was not forced to make the payment or to accept any work if he was not happy but he accepted the reduction in cost.
The customer made contact over a month after we had completed works to say that he had discovered a leak on the soil pipe which he had temporarily fixed. We asked for two quotes for the repair. The customer took over a month to send in the two quotes and I have since emailed asking for copies of the invoice for the repair which he has failed to respond to.

The Mannings

We had our existing driveway replaced in July 2009 by Town & Country Bespoke Driveways Ltd and could not have been happy with the result from the initial planning to the schedule of works at every stage they were conscientious, professional and took pride in their work from start to finish.

Since then, we have had the company back to re-seal the driveway, approximately every five years. They came again this month, and the driveway is again looking as good as new. We would certainly recommend Town & Country to people looking to upgrade their driveways.

Dreadful company, don't touch them with a barge pole!

I would give this company minus 5 star if there was one!!
2 years on and the work is still not completed. They damaged a sewarge drainage pipe and tried to cover up a massive hole with duck tape and then refused to acknowledge my complaints. They owe me a fortune as I ended up having to get a local company in to sort out the mess, otherwise my garden would still be a building site 2 years on.
Shirley in the office is rude and obnoxious and provides excuse after excuse for them not coming to complete the work.
The managing diretor is ignorant not once responding to my complaints sent diretly to him.
They are expensive, their work is beyond shody, the driveway leans towards the house rather than away so water, when it rains, puddles at the door!!
What a waste of time and money!

Following on from their reply, the minor leak was a huge V shaped hole in the toilet waste pipe, 6 inches by 5 inches at the widest point and taped with duck tape, below the level of the new concrete, so leaking sewage under the concrete for 6 months because the company refused to take responsibility. Had I not decided to change the pipe for a plastic one it would not have been found. What decent engineer/company covers up such an environmental hazard with duck tape????
As for a reply from the MD I never received one, despite 2 letters and receipts for repair works, addressed personally to him and emails with photographs of the sewage pipe, all just ignored.
As for the engineer arriving onsite and finding 2 ton of gravel, he didn't arrive until 10.30 am, I tried to contact Shirley at 8.15am (plenty of time to cancel as the engineer told me he didn't leave site until 9am), she didn't answer her phone (despite having just spoken to me), so I left a message to cancel because it was raining. The gravel was moved in plenty of time by 2 men that were here when the engineer arrived. The engineer had never received a call to stop him from coming because Shirley said the weather didn't matter anymore and the sealant could be done despite the rain, strange as that was her excuse all along for not completing the work!
Their timeline is laughable, what they fail to mention is they commenced the work in the October and it was never completed. The railway sleepers they put in place fell over, and when I got a decent, reliable engineer in to sort out the mess we discovered the concrete in many places was only 1 inch thick and hardly any hardcore underneath. Absolute shambles.
I don't wish to get into the same mud slinging match this company are doing, however what I will say is they tell lies. I have never received any communication from the MD, if their vans have trackers their timing is out (I have witnesses to prove they weren't on site as early as they claim) and as for owing them money, I don't think so. It cost me a further £3000 to have the damage they caused put right which I have witnesses to and photographic evidence of. The leak was not minor it was a major sewage leak covered up by duck tape, which was reported to the environmental agency and trading standards.

Works were completed on this contract on 11th May 2019, when you failed to be available for us to go over the work with you before we left site. Final payment was not collected form you as per the contract.
On 15th May, you contacted us to say you had a minor issue with the works undertaken and we agreed to return to correct the issue. We arranged to return on 20th May but you cancelled this appointment as you had made other arrangements. We rearranged a revisit for 1st June but the weather prevented us from doing the work.
On 9th July, you informed us that a minor leak had been found on the property so we asked for a copy of the report from you to determine the cause. To date we have never been furnished with a copy of the report and we do not accept responsibility for the damage as explained in our correspondence to you.
On 14th July, we planned with you for the engineer to complete all work on the contract. On arrival at 8.43am the engineer saw that works could not be carried out as you had placed two tonne of gravel in large dumpy bags on the driveway which could not be moved so consequently the area could not be worked on. You attempted to call the office to cancel the appointment at 8.30am when you knew the engineer would be close to site as it’s a three-hour journey in travelling to you! When booking in this work you were fully aware that the delivery you had would prevent us from undertaking the work.
On 16th July, you addressed and sent a letter to the MD, whom fully responded to you directly on 22nd July.
We have never received any complaint from you with regard to the levels being incorrect or of any pooling.

In addition to the customers last post we would like to comment with fact not fiction as follows:
We did not cover up the broken pipe as the customer alleges, any damage on site is reported to the customer and the office and then the appropriate action is taken to resolve the issue. We would take full responsibility for the damage if it had been done when we undertook the works on site. I can assure you that the customer received a letter from the MD with a full response to all her points (a copy of which could be supplied as proof). With regards to the timeline, the delay was in the waterboard repairing a leak and then the customer never being available for the engineer to go. We have never told any customer that we can seal in the rain as you can’t or the sealant will fail hence why the majority of our work is weather dependant. If the driveway is wet before our arrival we can dry it off and then commence sealing but not if rain is forecast whilst works are undertaken or after completion. The customer is fully aware that it took 4 months for the waterboard to investigate and resolve the water seeping up under the drive. We completed the work in May 2019. The customer raised a couple of issues that needed attention after completion. Since then we have had problems arranging an appointment as the customer is never available or cancels appointments after they have been arranged. When we start any installation all customers receive a letter with our opening times and contact numbers. Our engineer did arrive on site at 8.43am not 10.30am as the customer alleges - we have a tracker fitted to all company vehicles with reports confirming this. Our start times on site are usually 8.30am give or take traffic. The customer was well aware that our travel time to reach her was in excess of three hours. We never tell customers we don’t leave to go to site until 9am. If this was the case we wouldn’t get much work done when we are nationwide! The customer was phoned to book in the work the day before our arrival not the same day as she states. Why the customer would ring a working office or email on a Sunday and expect the matter to be dealt with that day is beyond us. We have tried to reason with the customer to get matters resolved to no avail unfortunately. The customer still has an unpaid debt with us.

It would have been 5 stars if there…

It would have been 5 stars if there hadn't been a problem with the start date being postponed a couple of times. We are very pleased with the job the team of workmen did. They worked in a professional manner, paid attention to detail and always left everything tidy which kept any inconvenience to us at a minimum.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. It was unfortunate that the start date was postponed due to the Foreman suffering a minor injury. Once he was fit for work we rearranged a new date for you and proceeded from there. I am glad that you are very pleased.
