I have been using the Center for a few years now, and have seen it go through a few changes. Like the old saying don’t judge a book by its cover. It may look a little outdated, but in the inside the staff a so helpful, polite and always on hand if I have needed any thing, the gym is clean and has enough equipment for my needs, the pool is now at a good temperature, I use it regularly for my fitness swim as sell as for the family.

Functional fitness class is the best!
Finley makes the class just right. Not too hard or easy! The environment is a comfortable one where you feel very happy setting your own pace. Nothing is too much trouble. I’d recommend to all!

Contacted parent company GLL about membership - prompt and courteous response from Gavin, who politely explained how I wasn't able to get a discount. Although disappointed I could not fault Gavin, nor his colleagues at the Wantage centre, who are without exception, friendly, courteous and helpful - full marks all round. Happy to recommend.

As someone who prioritizes cleanliness and hygiene in my workout environment, I found this gym to be severely lacking in several critical areas. General air smell in the gym was poor, and there was a noticeable musty smell that made exercising unpleasant, gym not well maintained. The sauna was equally disappointing. It was clear that regular maintenance and cleaning were not a priority. The lack of cleanliness and hygiene in the gym, sauna, and toilets is a significant issue that needs urgent attention. The price is cheap but is so is the quality.

Entering the car park was I thought a bit bumpy with the metal flow ramp … later revealed on way home that it had split my oil sump… £450 to repair.
Tried ringing to complain got cut off several times then no answer.

The staff are always friendly and helpful. The reason I have rated my experience so low is the cleanliness of the facilities, particularly the toilets and shower rooms. The toilets are stained and the floor filthy. The shower floors are also stained with mouldy grout. The disabled toilet along the main corridor was equally poor.

Gym equipment is dirty, out of date and rusty. Water machine leaking, damp on floor and wet floor sign propped up. WiFi does not work. No showers working in the swimming pool. Pool water is very cold. Pool changing rooms are dirty on the floors and cubicles. General paintwork needs addressing throughout. An expensive gym membership, now cancelled.

I have been going to the Wantage gym with my friend between two and three times a week from 6.15am-7.15am since our membership started in June 2023. The gym is filthy, the equipment is mostly broken, and the facilities are appalling. There are rarely staff manning the front desk and so whenever you need someone you’re lucky to find someone. The air conditioning in the gym is rarely turned on so it can be stifling but when you ask someone to turn it on they will do so, but reluctantly. I only asked once as I got the impression I was asking too much. The changing facilities are frankly disgusting: There is the communal changing and shower room where the showers are either ice cold or scalding hot, so either way it is hard to wash yourself. OR you can go to the sauna changing room which has private showers but is so hot from the sauna you need another shower by the time you’ve got dressed. Also, a dead bug fell out of the cracked ceiling tiles when I was there last time and someone had peed in the corner of the changing room – I couldn’t find a member of staff to inform about that so I had to leave them a note on the front desk. There has been one occasion where the gym didn’t open until about 6.30am as no one arrived to unlock, therefore I wasn’t able to get my full work out as I am on a tight schedule in the morning. All of that, I have put up with as it’s a local gym and I don’t want to lose it, I have been hoping that it will get refurbished and it would then be a great space. But today, enough is enough. There was a member of staff on the desk this morning who barked at us to sign in – I know we should have but there hadn’t been the scanner there last week so we couldn’t, and I guess we didn’t think about it this morning. It’s a Monday at 6.15am! I asked the man where the scanner was and he told me to scan the QR code on the desk. It didn’t work. He got all huffy and brought the scanner up for me to scan in like I usually do saying that they don’t want people doing that. He was incredibly rude, it was so unnecessary. Especially as we never usually see staff at all. Anyway we got on with our workout. As I have said, the facilities are poor – the gym is tiny and there is no workout space. The centre does have a studio and a couple of weeks after we got our membership we found a rare member of staff and asked if we could use it and he said yes. We were actually discussing this morning how it was the only good thing about the centre. At the end of our workout, the member of staff from the front desk came barrelling into the room telling us that we can’t use the studio space. We asked why and told him that someone else had said we could. He told us that we could hire it out if we wanted to use it. I asked where we were supposed to workout (we do HIIT workouts and the gym doesn’t have the space) and he told us we should use the gym and function room (the function room has no air con and hardly any space). We said that as no one else was using the room could we not use it, and he told us we could use it if we paid extra to rent it out. The way he spoke to us was incredibly rude and unnecessary, both of us were very upset. Personally, it ruined my morning – the gym is important for my mental health as a destress and this encounter has left me feeling upset, angry, and stressed out. My friend and I have decided we will no longer be using the Wantage leisure centre as it now has no redeeming features - we will be driving further afield.

I am 22 months old and my teacher Vicky is amazing. I am learning to float, blow bubbles in the water, jump in, climb in and climb out. I don’t like saying goodbye because I want more.
