Negative experience
Sadly, as many others users here in trust-pilot, I’am experiencing a delay in my bike delivery. I purchased my subscription on the 24th of July and the bike hasn’t been dispatched yet after 12 days. Almost half month of subscription gone without be able ride a bike. No updates whatsoever . Very negative experience overall

Atrocious internal systems and customer support.
I was interested in the Brompton subscription service, so placed an order for the £50/month rolling contract on the 23rd July '25.
The process required me to upload a form of ID using a third-party partner. This was seamless, and once that was confirmed, I was able to place the order.
I received 3 confirmation emails. 2 of these stated that orders would be processed within 3 working days. By the end of the 3rd working day, I had not received any confirmation of the device being shipped. I contacted the team via live chat who only told me that it was being processed, and had no reason for the delay.
Fast forward a couple more days and a couple more live chat sessions, I receive an email informing me of the delay. They told me that I needed to send over the ID documents again (despite these already being verified and payment being taken, which can only happen after a successful verification). Turns out that I should have received this email along with the others, but they somehow managed to input my email address completely wrong (the word 'email' was attached to the front of my actual email address).
There is no phone number to call for support, and the live chat agents have absolutely no power to pass on any information or get anything prioritised. Everything is slow. It has now been 7 working days and this extra verification step has not been completed, let alone the bike being shipped out for delivery.
The people who staff the Live Chat are all wonderful, kind and courteous (and a special shoutout to Richard K who went above and beyond)! I always got the impression that they truly cared and wanted to get my situation resolved. It just seems that they are limited in what they can actually do.
The company needs to invest in better systems to stop such basic mistakes being made. Or better yet, open up this service to the Brompton Junction stores! I will happily update my review once I finally receive my Brompton C Line, but so far, just getting the bike in the first place is testing all of my patience.

The Brompton hire app isn’t great. But the bikes are.
The Brompton hire app isn’t great. You will probably have some trouble getting a bike and outside of business hours there is only very basic support. The support staff are hard to reach but they do eventually return calls and emails with kind and effective advice. So start the process a day or more before you need the bike.

Daily hire Brompton is AMAZING
(This is NOT a review of the subscription service)
A Brompton bike is yours for a fiver a day - too good to be true, surely.
Of course, I ended up having it for 20 days and coughing up a hundred. And now I am hellbent on owning one. But still, this is an amazing service. Tip: do not be a hurry when returning the bikes. You need to fold them right and insert them into the holds properly.
Very Satisfied First Experience with Brompton Bike Hire
This was my first time using Brompton Bike Hire, and I am very satisfied. The app worked well overall, although it was a little slow to respond, it didn’t cause any real issues. Booking the bike and returning it to the locker at the end of the ride was very easy.
This was my first time riding a Brompton, and I have to say that I was impressed. I took it on a 30-mile round trip.
Customer support was also good. I had a question about booking the bike for multiple days and got a quick and helpful response.
The hire service was incredibly convenient, as I was travelling and couldn’t bring my own bike. At £5 a day, what’s not to like!
I’ll definitely be using Brompton Bike Hire again!
All worked well for me!
Used the day-hire service from a local box. The bike was like new, in great condition, and the process worked well. I did need to contact support at one point but they were quick and attentive.
More boxes, please!
First off
First off I own two Bromptons, one electric, one normal. Neither are London so I have been using the hire service for the last couple years on and off. My last experience was not good at all. I hired a cycle and it was old and had a misaligned seat. I gave it back and took another one from the kiosk and it was in a worse condition with an annoying rubbing sound from somewhere and also was old to the extent that I was embarrassed to take it on public transport. I contacted the chat service to clarify my poor experience and gain some confidence that in future this would not occur and whether this was a tend in that Brompton Hire are now using old and poorly maintained cycles.
The reply I received from the "Chat" can only be described as perfunctory, robotic and algorithmic. I was not sure at all whether there was a human at the other end. My conclusion in the absence of any other information is that this company's standards are slipping and they cant now offer a service that a Brompton owner can expect. Sufficed to say I will not be using Brompton Hire Service again.

Extremely Slow
Ordered the bike, have received almost no comms from company about delivery and arrival time of the bike. Next payment showing as one month after the first payment. Seems outrageous to pay for a week where you have no product. Reflects extremely poorly on this company who are using this subscription as a long advertisement for their bikes. The bike may be good (when it arrives), but the company leaves a lot be desired.

I'm extremely disappointed with…
I'm extremely disappointed with Brompton Bikes. I subscribed on April 11th, 2025, expecting the bike to be dispatched within two days. It is now the 23th, and I've received no communication or updates.
This lack of communication and failure to meet their shipping timeline is unacceptable. I contacted customer service but received no response. It's frustrating to pay for a product and be left in the dark.
By the way Their live chat is a joke.
Their failure to fulfill basic promises and provide customer service raises concerns about their products. This was a terrible experience, and I do not recommend them.

Convenient service with misleading costs
Reasonable price and picking up and returning my bike was easy.
But the website claims you can refund £150 or £250 of hire fees if you later decide to buy a Brompton:
"Riding a Brompton has never been easier. Register your details and hire a bike from any locker nationwide. All for just £5 a day.
"Lots of Bike Hire members use hire as a thorough test ride. And that's because hire fees can be redeemed against the purchase of your very own Brompton - up to £150 for a regular bike and £250 for Electric."
This is extremely misleading. I was told by customer support that it only applies if you rent the bike on a monthly basis (paying £35 or £50/month rather than £5/day). They refused to issue a discount. If they had made this at all clear in writing, I would not have stuck with the daily hire rate for over a month.
The app for managing your bike hire is also quite wonky.

This is hands down the worst company I…
This is hands down the worst company I have ever dealt with. I took out a subscription and have had nothing but problems from the get go, emails unanswered, bike sent late, requests to cancel my subscription ignored, harassed by automatic emails from Brompton every hour of the day and now my subscription has been reinstated fraduantly after I have returned the bike many weeks ago. I have had to raise a dispute with my bank because after contacting them countless times they have still failed to cancel my subscription, despite them receiving my bike. So so so stressful

A Game-Changer for My Commute – Highly Recommended!
I recently had the pleasure of hiring a Brompton bike for three months, and the experience exceeded my expectations from start to finish.
The online booking process was effortless, intuitive, quick, and hassle-free, making it easy to find the perfect bike for my needs.
However, what truly set Brompton Bike Hire apart was its outstanding customer service.
As someone around 6ft tall, I had concerns about whether the standard seat post would accommodate my height. A quick message to the support team, and they responded promptly and professionally, ensuring I received a bike with an extended seat post. This small but significant gesture transformed my riding experience, making it not only comfortable but also a key factor in my decision to purchase my own Brompton.
If you’re considering a Brompton but want a real-world test before committing, this service is the perfect extended test ride. It’s flexible, reliable, and a fantastic way to experience the convenience of a Brompton before making the leap.
Highly recommended!
My bike still hadn't been dispatched…
My bike still hadn't been dispatched four days after I ordered it, then whenever it is dispatched it's up to two days more for delivery. I didn't find any of that clear when I ordered. I wanted the bike for one month only then re-subscribe when I needed it again in a few months.
The subscription doesn't even start the day you receive the bike, but the day you place the order (one week before)?
Really gutted with my experience
Happy to recommend
I’ve been using the Brompton subscription service since March. No complaints - the bike they provided was as good as new.
Just had it serviced which took less than a week to be collected and returned. Good communication and updates.
One day I will own one but this is as good as until then.

Subscription service barely works
I wasn't able to actually get a subscription because the documents I uploaded (twice, because there was apparently no record of me doing so the first time) weren't accepted - apparently a broadband bill doesn't count as a utility bill.
Literally took weeks to get to that point - various chats and emails with customer service to chase. Some people told me that I would still have to pay for the time it took Brompton to sort out the ID checks, others told me I'd get a refund for that time (so I should hope).
In the end I just cancelled and asked for a refund. Dreadful service, a clunky website, obtuse rules around what proof of address documents you need to provide (it's literally easier to hire a car). Don't bother.
What a great service.
At this point I've not actually hired a bike. I'm just commenting on the initial experience of setting up for the first hire.
The apps experience I had was a little bumpy, but Perry was great at helping me resolve the issues I encountered.
I did ask about the intrusive request to scan my passport, collect my birthdate, and capture my photo. This did seem irrelevant and excessive and potentially a security risk. It was pointed out to me though that this has been effective in dealing with bad actors and the information captured is not retained for more than a few months.
Subscription service is very clunky and not well thought out
I redeemed a 3 months subscription voucher. They said the subscription begins the day I submit the voucher, but it takes 7 working days to process the subscription, plus additional time to deliver the bike. Which is all time that is being paid where I am still not able to use the bike. That seems very strange. Also, although everything was supposed to be covered in the voucher, they made me start a £1 monthly direct debit.
Overall feel the subscription service is very clunky and not well thought out, so wouldn't recommend. Maybe their strength is in their bike manufacturing, not as a subscription/service company.
I have used both the day hire and…
I have used both the day hire and currently in a subscription and I have to say I was super sceptical about it all including the Brompton it self being a road bike guy. However after 1 hire , I then subscribed and I use it more than i thought . Even get off tube 5 stops before and cycle the rest of the way as it’s so much fun.
Awful collection and support
Terrible service when ending subscription. I've already booked twice to collection of my bike, both times they did not show up despite being reassured by support team.
I was then assure someone would reach out to me with urgency to address these issues, and again no one has reached out.
I had originally booked collection prior to moving house, but have had to pay for my own arrangements to transport this massive box.
Still not resolved, quite poor service.
I think it's magic to arrive in London…
I think it's magic to arrive in London and find (sometimes it takes a while of hunting) a Brompton in a box. What the scheme needs, however, are more hire locations and boxes, especially in south London. But I don't mean to complain, as the scheme works well.
