Sue and I have just returned from Burgh Island after celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary, after 9 nine years together Sue decided to propose to me with a dead rose! (long story).
Anyway we have had the most wonderful escape on the island. We were lucky enough to have three nights in luxury, and to be honest we could not fault anything, the staff were all so polite, helpful and fun they could not do enough for us. The food was really good, certainly quality over quantity, I’m not saying the portion sizes were small they were not. As for the decor everything was in the style of the 20’s and thirties, think art-deco everything and you will get the idea. Was this a cheap break no, was it worth every penny, yes.
Will we be going back…..you bet
If you love the style of the 1920’s and 30’s you will love this hotel and it’s setting.

Visited the island for afternoon tea. Nothing to complian about there. The waiting staff were so helpful, pleasant and great this includes the bar staff as well. What was our concern was the greeting we got at the door from not sure who she was role wise but think she forgot we were the guests and she was the employee as she instantly looked down her nose at us as we hoovered in the reception looking for the cloakroom. She did eventually manage to speak to us by asking 'what do you want' not a nice greeting such as can I help or assist you ladies especially as I was walking with a crutch as disabled. Lucky a lovely lady did assist us and was very helpful. On leaving we wanted to purchase a item from their merchandise but was told by the 1st female simply we are out of stock, the end of the conversation from her. She never said would you perhaps like something else, was it a gift for someone and suggest us buying something else. Her customer focus was nil towards us. She needs to remember everyone that passes through those doors should be treated excatly the same as she knew nothing about our background and never will. We talked about it with our chauffeur on the way home on how some people in the service industry really need to drop the attitude. Burgh Islands loss as we plan not to return for a longer stay which was the whole purpose of this visit

It may sound strange to write a review of a trip I didn't make but sometimes it's the disasters (mine not theirs) that define people. The Burgh Island Hotel staff went to great lenghts, far more than you could reasonably expect, to help me at a difficult time. I hope, one day, to take the trip and I recomend you do too.
