Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 111 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently complained about significant difficulties with the online booking process and unhelpful customer service representatives who completely failed to properly resolve their flight issues. Many people also experienced unexpected extra charges, hidden service fees, and extremely rigid cancellation policies that made modifying travel plans a very frustrating ordeal. Some reviewers were happy with the fast assistance provided by agents and appreciated receiving smooth flight modifications when their travel schedules suddenly changed. A few consumers found the customer support team helpful when managing specific reservation adjustments and taking advantage of quick price matching guarantees.

Bait and Switch

Beware of bait and switch tactics. 0 stars if I could.

I booked a hotel in Japan. Showed up to the hotel on day of check in. The hotel did not have any record of my reservation. I showed them my booking confirmation. Upon further research, the hotel stated that I was actually booked at a different hotel down the street. This hotel was a downgrade, sort of like comparing a Marriott to a Courtyard by Marriott. The hotel also advised that the reservation was booked through Agoda (enough said). Why in the heck is Capital One using Agoda?!!! Agoda has one of the worst if not the worst review ratings of all travel booking websites.

I contacted Capital One Travel. Wasted over 2 1/2 hours of my vacation time, speaking to various representatives until finally I reached a supervisor who finally sorted things out, but unfortunately for me, Capital One Travel wouldn't book me in my original room (which was still available), but instead booked me in a downgraded room.

Also during this vacation, I booked another hotel in a different part of Japan. After the above fiasco, I contacted the hotel in advance of my arrival to confirm they had my reservation. Can you believe it? They also stated they had no record of my reservation. The hotel asked if I could provide the Booking ID number which was not listed anywhere on my Capital One booking confirmation. Had to call Capital One Travel once again. This time I got lucky and Capital One provided me with the Booking ID number. Why isn't this number provided to begin with? The hotel was able to locate this reservation, phew!

Going forward, I will only be using the Capital One Travel website to redeem my annual travel benefits which come with my credit card.

It they had zero stars I would give…

It they had zero stars I would give them this or even negative stars. I am a capital one travel card holder. I have used them on a few occasions, and it is getting worse. First travel was for my wife and son to fly to Portland from Las Vegas - booked on Alaskan airlines - by they booked it through Hawaiian airlines - the confirmation number I had did not work to check in, the offshore customer service who barely speaks English was no help. Finally, called Alaskan and they told me the issue and got the right numbers to check in. Next, was the fact the hotels are widely overpriced. Today tried to book a hotel to use the plethora of miles I have, I asked for a hotel in Coralville, IA. I found the one I was looking at on the computer in their system - but was incorrect as it was in a city 59 miles away from where I asked for the hotel - which I booked because why would they give me a city an hour away from where I asked. Again, offshore customer service center with typical poor English-speaking skills was no help. I will never do business with this travel center again.

Cancelled My Trip-Keeping My Money

I booked a trip, used my miles, paid the balance and all was confirmed. Thirty minutes later I received an email that my trip was canceled, as the airline did not confirm the tickets. My miles were returned immediately, but I'm still waiting on my refund to my credit card. This was THREE days ago. I called customer service, or lack thereof, and was told 7-10 business days for a refund! I am unable to book another trip without the refund to my card, so I wait as the price goes up for the trip. This is costing us a great deal of money! Customer service offered $100 travel voucher, which still hasn't shown up, by the way. I explained that this delay of my refund is going to cost us a great deal more than $100! Too bad!
In addition, this is an international trip, with several flights booked around this main one. I now have to cancel other flights and rebook them as well. It is definitely not worth having this card, when I can't use the miles that I have earned to travel. That was the entire point of getting this card. And why can't you put my refund back on my car?

Dissapointed

I booked a vacation through VBRO on Capital One Travel app. To my surprise it was then booked through another party Room Picks which would have all been fine of the room was clean but I was greatly disappointed and due to all the parties involved NO one is taking responsibility. Here is my review on Bayside Inn Key Largo
Very Disappointing Experience
The room was dirty with a strong mildew smell, a ripped and stained mattress, and rusted fixtures—clearly neglected and poorly maintained. While the staff was kind, they were unable to provide a clean room. I had booked through a third party, VRBO, which passed the reservation to Room Picks. I was promised a $808 refund for two nights by Room Picks after they spoke with the property owner, but I never received it. I left in good faith and am still disputing the charge. I strongly urge others to be cautious when booking through third-party services.

Capital One Travel Sucks!

Capital One, your travel company sucks! The website is horrid, the prices changes constantly even while booking. I pay for seat selection and won’t let me do it on your site and you send me to British Airways and they try and charge more $140 per a segment, and your agents are clueless and waste my time. Tell me why I switched from American Express Delta Reserve to the Venture X. It has been shitty so far.

I wish I had read these reviews before…

I wish I had read these reviews before booking.
THEY CANNOT HELP YOU WITH ANY ISSUE THEY JUST CONTINUE TO SAY WELL SINCE NOT DIRECT. JUST GO DIRECT PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF.
Their employees are very nice while on the phone but they don't HELP or actually work to resolve the issue because they aren't able to so please don't take it out on them its a company issue or a lack of training.
I just need to add a connecting flight and they would not or could not help despite flights times being changed multiple times (highlighting the importance of a connecting), despite that meaning the luggage wouldn't forward etc and I understood/willing I would have to pay more but they don't care about making money, they are paid to just say no so stop paying them.

Don't book through Capital One Travel

I booked a car from ACE through Capital One Travel, and paid $290.27, but after the rental, ACE charged me additional $60.97, saying ACE only received $229.30 from Capital One. I wasted 10s of hours talking to Capital One Dispute Department, Capital One Customer service and Capital OneTravel, but they kept saying there is no option for them to refund me the difference.

What a joke! Any deal between Capital One and ACE has nothing with a customer like us. A thief steals money, then saying there is no option for it to return the money.

From this review site, I see this is a common practice of Capital One. If there is any lawyer here, we customers with the similar experience should launch a class action suit against Capital One to stop it from this illegal practice.

A quick update: reported this to CFPB ( Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ) on August 4, and got response on August 8 from Capital One "As one-time courtesy, we've decided to permanently credit your account for this portion of the transaction. ... Keep in mind, credits like this may not be available in the future."

So fellow consumers, we need to fight against companies like Capital one, and keep agencies like CFPB work for us there. Don't let them do away with agencies like CFPB.

The absolute worst travel portal ever

The absolute worst travel portal there is. We have had NOTHING but trouble with them. Booked hotels through them and the hotel would not have our booking so the hotels would charge us a second time. Then Capital one would not get a refund for the double payment. We’ve gotten bogus car rentals. Prices are ALWAYS higher through Capital One Travel and they NEVER price match like they say. Their excuse is always "we're not seeing the price that is coming up for you". All lies and I am done with Capital One Travel and my Venture X card. Should be called "Capital One Travel Hassle".

ZERO stars

ZERO stars. I rented a car through the Capital One Travel app, using my Capital One credit card, and when I was able to return the vehicle 9 days early due to my repairs finishing very quickly, I was told I would not receive a refund, that it was "not their responsibility." The supervisor was worthless when I escalated the issue twice.

zero stars

zero stars, stuck in Melbourne airport after an 18hour flight because capital one never paid the connecting airline jet star, despite the flight appearing on our up to date itinerary and connecting airline apps. Capital one is refusing to do anything after 2 phone calls for over 2 hours. Airline cant do anything because they never got paid and the plane is full. Forced into making a new booking costing $1800usd just to get home and capital one cant even tell me how much I will be refunded for there booking error or who to call to get refunded. Offered 2 $50 dollar credits. Never book through a travel agent especially Capital one.

I would give zero stars if I could

I would give zero stars if I could. Trying to redeem my travel credit of $471. On the phone for an hour, charged my debit card for the difference in flight, then told me the charge didn't go through and I can't use my debit card - the charge went through. In the meantime, they said I had to give them a credit card. I did that, they charged it, said it didn't go through when it really did. So now I have two charges that went through, capitol one travel said it didn't, capitol one bank said the charges went through and I still don't have my reservations confirmed. They suck! If I didn't have a travel credit, I would have never used them again.

Stay far away!

Flight cancellation due to medical reason…

We need to cancel flights due to medical reason. It took them more than 2 weeks after we submitted the medical documents and yet without resolving the problem. When I called again and again for the follow up, they were getting rude and told me nothing they could do except waiting for Airlines response. I ended up contacting Airlines directly via chatting. They gave me an update right away. Capital One Travel is very unprofessional and unreliable when issues arise.

No protection & support when swindled by car rental agency

I rented a car from Fox car rental agency that charged me extra after the booking was complete. They refused to honor the initial payment and Capital One credit card services declined to refund and support the case despite evidence with emails and receipts clearly documenting the differences.

This card is meant to protect customers dealing with difficult travel experiences and they did the exact opposite. I've never had a credit card company decline my request for a refund before, particularly given the situation and the documentation in place. It was shocking and highly frustrating and disappointing. I'll never use this card for travel purchases again.

No Help, No Accountability—Capital One Travel’s Broken Process

I booked a Three Bedroom House at Hamestring Creek, Fayetteville, through Capital One Travel, and the experience was an absolute disaster. Immediately after booking, the host required me to agree to additional house rules that were not fully disclosed in the listing. While the listing mentioned a dog size restriction, it completely failed to mention a pet fee. Since my dogs didn’t meet his requirements, I apologize for not noticing the pet size restriction and informed him that I couldn’t accept the terms, and he explicitly told me to cancel.

Following his instructions, I contacted Capital One Travel multiple times to process the cancellation. Their response? "There’s nothing we can do if the host won’t answer our calls and emails." No escalation, no resolution—just complete indifference.

Meanwhile, the host outright admitted to deliberately ignoring Capital One’s emails because he only works with Hopper. When he finally answered their call—on the eve of my stay—he refused to approve the cancellation, completely contradicting his previous statement that my dogs weren’t allowed. Even after this blatant contradiction, Capital One Travel refused to step in.

To make matters worse, the host messaged me just two hours before check-in, demanding that I agree to the house rules—even though he had already told me my dogs weren’t permitted. At that point, it was clear he was only looking for documentation that I accepted the terms to protect himself in case of a complaint—without ever giving me a fair choice in the matter. I was trapped in a situation where I either had to comply or lose my payment entirely.

I spent hours making phone calls, desperately trying to resolve an issue that should have been handled immediately. But Capital One Travel refused to intervene, ignored the documented proof of my attempts to cancel, and ultimately did nothing to help.

Because of this disaster, my family had to scramble for alternative arrangements, ultimately cutting our trip short due to the inconvenience. And, of course, Capital One Travel provided no way to leave an official review—suggesting they don’t want renter feedback or accountability.

If you’re thinking of booking through Capital One Travel, be warned: If a host ignores them, they will do absolutely nothing to protect you.

Not reliable! Be aware! Flight booking with confirmation was not booked

I booked a flight using Capital One travel portal, and received travel confirmation email. However, when I arrived at the airport, I was shocked that the flight is not booked. I called Capital One travel help but he was not able to help.  I had to book another flight myself at the airport at a much higher price.  This is absolutely unacceptable. How can I trust the travel portal and book with it again?  I called Capital One travel help after the flight and asked for explanation and solution, but they refused to compensate me for the financial loss the stress I suffered due to their mistake. I am extremely disappointed with Capital One Travel.  This has never happened with any other travel portal.  I am shocked and extremely disappointed with Capital One travel service, and would not recommend Capital One Travel Portal to anyone. Please be aware.

Worst travel portal

Worst travel portal. After 10 years using capital one credit cards, it is time to move to other options. They showed a hotel with 3.5 star reviews when in reality, it is only 1 star. They used bait and switch techniques to get card holders to use thejr travel portal. Terrible experience and moving on
