Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the payment practices, noting concerns about the validity or age of the debts being pursued. Customers frequently reported receiving demands for payments on accounts they never held or for debts that had already been settled. There were also concerns about data sharing practices. Some people were dissatisfied with the contact process, mentioning difficulties in getting clear information about the alleged debts, with staff refusing to provide details or becoming aggressive. Reviewers also found it challenging to resolve issues, with some experiencing multiple transfers between different agencies and a lack of communication or follow-up. Conversely, a small portion of people felt satisfied with the staff and customer service, describing some representatives as polite, helpful, and empathetic, especially when arranging payment plans.

I have recieved many emails over the years from this company and the previous company saying I owe over £7000 which I’m not aware of from 28years ago I know that if I had any such debt that it would be statute barred by now and now they are sending me correspondence to say I can pay £1800 to settle the account any company would send you a breakdown of the debt not just sending out random emails scamming money off people, concentrate on debts that you can legally chase and not statute barred debts!!!

Legitimate debt collectors using some dubious practices

This company buys historical debt to try and reclaim it. In this case a debt owed by my brother who now has dementia. The debt they claimed owed, was so historical that nobody could recall what it was for, even them. But apparently the last payment was made in 2008 for £50. This means that the debt is over 6 years old (in England, 5 in Scotland) with no payments made and so it is statute barred.

If you chat to their AI webchat and mention the fact that the debt is statute barred and they will suddenly tell you that the account is all settled and closed. No need to pay the one time offer of 15% off or even 66% off. It is actually an unrecoverable debt and you don't need to pay anything. They are just hoping that you might not be aware.

Amazing Nicola !

Hello, I formally would recommend Nicola from the Scottish office I spoke with yesterday March 21st for outstanding customer service, about a Lloyds account. She was empathetic, polite, understanding and courteous. I had had horrible day up to speaking with her on phone, but her kindness made me feel a million dollars. Thanks Nicola your one of a kind.

Kind Regards
Mr Lorns

Hapless chasers of unrecoverable debts

To clarify my rating: 0 stars for Capquest overall (and that's generous). The additional 2 stars are for comedy value.

Capquest recently emailed me to tell me they are now "managing" an account for a 20+ year old debt that they must already know would have been statute barred at some point in the 2000's. They have knowingly (unless they really are that useless) bought a debt they can never recover.

I hope they paid good money to start "managing" it and I will enjoy watching their wasted time, effort and money trying to collect it. I'm considering offering them £0.01 in cash to settle it, but only if they put enough effort in to earn it.

They are fishing scam company wanting to know your info to use it to scam you and fabricate some type of money you suppose to owe, for those they really owe can get scam easier and confused by their fraudulant technique, anyone can be their victim.

I DON'T KNOW THEM, NEVER HAD ANY BUSINESS WITH THEM ETC...
MY ORDINARY BILLS ARE PAID WITH AN EXTRA EACH MONTH, COME XMAS I CAN EASILY SKIP A PAYMENT AND STILL BE IN CREDIT WITH ALL THE PHONE, WATER, ELECTRIC ETC. SO HOW CAN ANY COMPANY I AM DEALING WOULD ASK ME TO PAY THEM MONEY I DON'T OWE SINCE THEY ALL OWE ME MONEY.

CALL THE COMPANY AND CHECK WHATS GOING ON, REPORT SOMEONE TRYING TO USE THEIR BUSINESS NAME TO SCAM PEOPLE.

DON'T TRUST THESE SCAMMERS, THEY USE RUSE, TRY TO SCARE YOU, CONFUSE YOU, BULLY YOU, MAKING TREATHS, THEY BUY YOUR INFO, ETC AND PRETEND FOR SECURITY REASON YOU GOT TO GIVE YOUR ADDRESS, YOUR FULL NAME ETC, TO VERIFY. NO, NO, THAT IS A TRICK ONCE THEY HAVE IT, THEY DO FAKE PROFILE, ETV... THEY WONT TELL YOU WHO YOU ARE, FOR SECURITY 🤣 WHO YOU OWE MONEY, HOW MUCH ETC...THEY ARE FISHING FOR YOUR INFO, THEY TAPE YOUR VOICE, THEY USE IT LATER TO SCAM OTHERS... DON'T FALL FOR THEIR LIES.
CALL THE COMPANIES YOU DEALING WITH REPORT THE SCAM.
Even on here don't give too much info on you, because they can manipulate it.
I don't trust them. No company send your account to any collection agency before contacting you first by mail with over due amount not paid etc, them ask you why, they offer to help you etc. THIS IS A SCAM.

Capquest are getting really desperate…

Capquest are getting really desperate to make a few pennies out of non-existent or statue barred 'debts'. They are chasing £155 but will accept £38. Catalogue debt apparently , but I haven't had any dealings with a catalogue company in over 30 years. Really, really desperate now. Do one Capquest. I found this demand for payment in my junk email folder, just where it belongs.

WARNING OPUS/CAPQUEST SCAM

WARNING. SCAM.

Capquest
OPus
Arrow Global accounts management ltd
Arrow Poplar designated activity company.

3 different letters all stating that i owe money to Grattan mail order which i have certainly never used!
The first letter i received by capquest states that ArrowGlobal Accounts Limited has changed legal ownership as of 31/5/2023 to Arrow Poplar Designated Activity Company who then decided to appoint Capquest Debt Recovery Limited as an administrator of your account, this means that going forward all communication in relation to this account, will come from capquest directly.
And then states...
At present your account is being managed by Opus Limited, and they will continue to do so until we notify you of any changes to the servicing arrangements?
Then it goes on to say, with our clients permission we can reduce your balance to £35.15 which represents a significant saving by 12/8/25.
This letter was headed with Capquest and underneath that Opus, dated 29/7/25,
This came with a second letter in the same envelope, with a letter heading Arrow Global, this letter states pretty much the same as the first letter, but stating the outstanding balance of £140.58. Any payments made should go to capquest.
Then underneath it states (which i find worrying)
As a result of the change in ownership, and in line with the data protection act 2018, Capquest is now the Data controller of your personal data contained in the records of this account?
Which i have never had a Grattan account!
anyway i didnt respond to them and i still havent.
And i will be honest im overwhelmed and want to look into getting my information back?? I dont know how?
Since then ive received 2 emails from Opus saying they have sent me a letter and we have tried to call you a few times?
THIS is a violation of my personal information.
NOT DATA
They have everything
Full name - with MS not MISS
address - been here less than one year
email???
phone number????
I received another letter on 21/9/25
Headed Opus
WE have been trying to contact you on behalf of capquest?? We can reduce your balance? to £28.12 which represents a significant amount of saving. Paying the reduced amount will clear your debt.
if you are not in the position to do this, we have the clients permission to accept £42.17?
Where are they getting these figures from??
Its absolutely ludicrous.
Im sorry to go on, but, if it makes people aware of how a CRIMINAL COMPANY will go about trying to get any sum of money from you?? Then so be it.
So i had 5 missed calls
2 emails
3 letters
4 different companies
Not including The original Lie that it was Grattan
All signed by
Alison Walker.

Please dont give them YOUR money.
Have a nice day :)

This company needs closing down

This company needs closing down. They are scamming people and massively breaking GDPR. I have been getting emails, texts and calls constantly, then they told me the full name of whom the ‘debt’ was for and it wasn’t me. They broke GDPR. Additionally, it was a debt from a company called provident and 12 years old for £100!!!!!! I don’t think the person even owed it.

Absolutely Useless

I made a representation to NCO Europe Ltd earlier this year due to medical reasons and had a debt written off. However, the debt still shows as active on my credit file even though it was written off in June. Capquest have also been erroneously reporting late repayments for months, causing my credit rating to nosedive. NCO have confirmed to me that they wrote this debt off in June and contacted Capquest to confirm this. I called Capquest on September 8th (three months after the write off) who said they had no knowledge of the debt being settled. They told me they would call NCO and get it actioned. However, this week my credit file still shows an open debt. I already have a complaint open about the late repayments but Capquest have done nothing to actually get the debt closed. They keep telling me they have to contact a 'back office' department and have no idea how long it'll take. I have waited three months for this to be actioned.

Scammers

This so-called company emailed me about some debt to a bank that I've never ever banked with, nor ever had any loan from anywhere to do with that bank or their subsidiaries.
I'm not wasting my time contacting them as from what I've read & heard about them they're not nice at all.

Do not be taken in with the 5 star reviews, they're too good to be true and appear contrived & false.

Opos and Capquest customer disservice

I was referred to CAPQUEST recently to discuss an ancient account from Abbey National which is approximately 25 years old. I phoned Capquest to discuss the matter to be told that they had passed everything to an agent called OPOS. I contacted Opos but as they had been given incorrect details I was unable to pass their security. Due to this they refused to discuss anything and so I called Capquest again and was able to pass their security. I also discovered where the error was for Opos and phoned them back to explain that the error was in their data. There was a 1 digit error on my date of birth and having explained this to them they still refused to speak to me and terminated the call. I called Capquest again who still would not discuss anything and stated that I had to deal with Opos. I phoned them back and agreed to send a photocopy of my passport showing my correct D.O.B. I received a reply confirming receipt but calling back a few days later was told that their system had not been updated and they would not discuss anything. This continued for a further couple of weeks and I offered to resend my passport details. I again received a confirmation of receipt of my email but again a week later they still claimed they had not received anything. They then emailed asking me to call urgently to speak to an Alison. I called and was then told that Alison was a made up name to avoid giving their real names . They then stated that as I could not pass security they would still not discuss anything. I asked to make a complaint but was refused as they said I could not psss security and therefore I might not be their client. I contacted the ombudsman service who suggested I send an email to the compliance manager detailing my concern I then sent a complaint to their compliance manager and went back to Capquest who still refused to discuss anything insisting I dealt with Opos. Opos eventually replied to my complaint stating that they did not believe I had sent my passport details as they had requested and claimed that they had no record of any emails from me. They ignored the two confirming emails that I had received and stated that they had not refused to allow me make a complaint. They have now also refused to deal with me referring me back to Capquest. I phoned them and was told that they had not received anything from Opos and therefore I would have to wait again until they received confirmation from Opos. So far to date I have made over 20 phone calls and spent over three hours on the phone trying to resolve this situation and so far I have spent over two months trying to fix the situation. It is now with the Ombudsman service and will have to wait for their decision as Santander have stated that they cannot offer a solution to this situation. I have found OPOS and Capquest to be devoid of any concern or understanding of customer service.
