Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers found the product to be incomplete and inaccurate, leading to overpaying for vehicles or discovering undisclosed damage and issues after purchase. People frequently mentioned that the service was below par and not worth the cost, with reports often lacking crucial details or containing erroneous information. The pricing for reports was also a significant point of dissatisfaction, with many finding it too expensive for the limited and often unreliable information provided. Some customers also experienced issues with the website, describing it as difficult to navigate and prone to losing search information. The overall value for money was consistently rated as poor, with many feeling that the reports offered little more than what could be found for free elsewhere.

Inaccurate reports and no apparent desire to correct them

I paid for a carfax report to see if it was accurate. I immediately saw several pieces of inaccurate information. I disputed the information and even sent the invoices to prove my case. It has been about three weeks so far and I receive bi weeks emails that they are working on it but none of my attempts to communicate with them have been returned. So my report says it is being researched and that is it. I was going to request more corrections but it seems this service just provides inaccurate information and has no desire to correct it.

What a total scam...Car Fax is reasonably accurate but there are ALWAYS significant errors in the report... And good luck trying to print a report you paid nearly $50 for that expires in 2 months...

Purchased three reports only got one!!

Purchased three carfax reports and used one. A year later I attempted to generate another carfax report and their system does not acknowledge I have two more reports and wants me to purchase more reports. Attempted to contact Carfax by telephone only to find out there’s no way to do that. The only thing I was left with was to send them a Web email with my information and I suspect based by all of the negative feedback here on trust pilot for Carfax that I will never hear from them ever again. One of two things will happen. They will contact me and give me my next two paid for reports or they will not get another penny from me as long as I have breath in my lungs. I STRONGLY recommend using another service that values its customers!

You should not be able to add an accident for everything on these reports!

I'm astounded car dealerships and others rely so heavily on a company as inaccurate as Carfax. On August 23rd, I was offered a hefty chunk of money from the dealership because my car, pre-owned, is in high demand right now and was going to end up getting another newer model eventually anyways. I would've saved almost $100/Mo on payments until my Carfax report came back bad. (RUINED the entire deal). I had thought some guy hit and badly damaged my car so I DID THE RIGHT THING, called the cops, insurance company and switched information with other driver. I had an appraisal set up through insurance, the body shop owner walked out, didn't even have me come in on the road, wiped the wheel well with a towel and poof, all gone. He manhandled the entire front of the car and absolutely NOTHING was wrong, lose, cracked, NOTHING. Emailed (to have a paper trail) and cancelled everything. We were driving through a major intersection, construction zone and what are the odds the noise we heard could've been something we ran over at the exact time we both thought there was impact. Even though EVERYTHING was cancelled and made known there was NO DAMAGE, stupid Carfax has an accident listed on this car. Now I know why people run or never want to do the right thing. Myself and the service manager of the dealership are STILL waiting for Carfax to fix this issue. Yep, the service manager reached out on my behalf with proof as well. Maybe if you guys didn't screw up so much, you wouldn't have a high volume of reports to fix. I've heard/seen the most atrocious stories happen because of you people since this crap has happened. STOP SENDING ME THE GENERIC "we're still researching your case" email to myself and Mazda and FIX THIS!! I am not getting screwed over on the value of my car because of this, not fair one bit.

ZERO response

Inaccurate information, zero response from a human after two weeks. Just automated messages that say they’re looking into my case, which they obviously aren’t. Holding up a chain of vehicle sales because Carfax doesn’t seem to notice.

Great experience

I was looking for a vehicle and Mr. Morris was very helpful. Even though I didn't purchase anything. He still provided me with the information that I need when I return. Again thanks I really appreciate it.

Total waste of money

Carfax is a total waste of money and hurts your chances of selling your vehicle when it reports inaccurate information.

I have a vehicle that I'm trying to sell but my Carfax report indicates my car has been involved in two wrecks when it should be only one (to my knowledge).

I filed an appeal but here it is 16 days later and they have done nothing but send me repeated emails stating they are busy and they will get to it someday.

Needless to say it has been a total waste of money and hurts my chances of selling my car. I will never use or recommend Carfax ever again.

2021 Honda Pilot remained parked in the back most of the time…

Consequently, because CARFAX did not allow me to leave a review of Flow Honda, Winston-Salem, North Carolina for August 1, 2024. I decided to leave my feedback here on Trustpilot as follows: I brought my 2021 Honda Pilot EX-L in for its 35,000-mile service and spent several hours at the dealership. My Service Advisor was Victor Navarro. While my wife and I waited in an upstairs office, we couldn't help but notice that our 2021 Pilot remained parked in the back most of the time. Despite this, I was charged an astonishing $450.37 for the service. I have photos to support this situation.

I purchased a car and I still have a copy that indicates no issues. Was going to put my car up for sale and lo and behold a damage report is listed on it prior to me buying it! So I contacted carfax and they told me to take it up with the seller! What good is their guarantee?

Inaccurate data and no customer service

They have inaccurate records and absolutely terrible customer service (actually, so far, no customer service). They offer a web form to fill out to contact them but doesn't appear that they actually respond to it (no matter how many times you try). Trying to trade in my car and the deal is held up by the dealer because carfax shows it as incorrectly being stolen. The Police national database shows it as properly registered/owned but unfortunately the car dealership uses carfax as their source of "truth". Frustrating situation to put it mildly, avoid them if you can.

CarFax is not a trustworthy gauge on a…

CarFax is not a trustworthy gauge on a cars history. I purchased a Certified Preowned Cadillac from Paul Conti of Freeport NY. They provided me a CarFax however the Carfax did not disclose the 2 previous accidents that happened 3 years prior to my purchase. Not only did I pay too much on the front end but now when I try to trade it in to another dealership (which provided me with an updated CarFax showing these accidents) the resale value is between $5-6k less because of this history. I will never trust in the CarFax vehicle reporting ever again. Not only was I deceived by Paul Conti of Freeport but by CarFax inaccuracies. This vehicle was an off lease vehicle from a dealership so I find it highly unlikely that the 2 accidents 3 years prior were missed by CarFax. Just seems very suspicious. DMV knew about this, insurance company knew, dealership knew as well as bodyshops involved and yet it was missed. I tend to make this known to every person, website and review site as I can. This will not go unpunished. Someone is responsible for this non disclosure which in NYS is against the law.

HORRIBLE SERVICE

HORRIBLE SERVICE

You are not able to reach a support agent are are just stuck waiting for an email. A car dealership incorrectly entered my odometer 3 years ago and it needs to be corrected before I can sell it. A simple mistake is costing me dearly without being able to reach anyone from carfax. By far the worst experience ever!! You are holding up the sale of my car and I cannot even find someone to speak with!!!!

CarFax Support is a Scam

I wish I had read the reviews before. I could just copy paste the exact scenario from any of the other reviews below. I paid for a CarFax report. Got an email confirmation and asked me to create an account to view the report. This is stupid in the first place as they could have just sent me the report in the email. But I'm sure they want to harvest the information and want you to create an account. I did that using the email address to which I received confirmation but no report showed up. I reset my password, cleared my cache etc. and nothing worked. I urgently needed a report to make a purchasing decision and while logged into the CarFax account, I made a purchase again and it worked. I got the report this time.

I thought it would be a simple matter of reaching out to customer service to get a refund. There was no phone or chat support. I used a form and provided details. Almost 10 days later, I got a single response that basically sent me the link to the report for which I had paid a second time. I then emailed them again with more details and everything to get a refund for one of the purchases, and no response so far after 5 days. I've now disputed this charge with my credit card company as a double charge for a single service. I haven't had to deal with such a shady company in quite a while. Irony is that you are supposed to trust CarFax as that's their whole service.

Carfax seems scam

Nice way to run your report. It's been a week I got a buyer on AT for my 2022 BMW and he was asked me about the cfx report and he send me the link of this site. When I ran a $60 report and send him, I never hear back from him. Is it some kind a scam running by carfax?

I have a 2021 ram pick up

I have a 2021 ram pick up. Carfax is a very misleading check fax on your automobile somehow they can magically track my mileage which is a choke. They tell me I have almost 7000 miles more than I have on my truck. They constantly badger me about oil change and having my tires rotated Constantly sending reviews to me saying that it’s a truck shows that my oil levels are as high as 50% before I change my rotation was done and I do it every 5000 miles. It hasn’t been 5000 miles yet and they are constantly badgering and leading the value of your vehicle. How many miles drive a year I drive roughly 5500 miles a year and they’re telling me that I have 22,000 miles a year this is a very , corrupt company, and the way they review your vehicle resale value by this corruption and they spew all over the Internet. They need to correct themselves and have a higher grade I’ve looked at the reviews people are. I don’t understand how when you go to get service they have the right to take my information and sell it to Carfax and make money and then not notify me of that. There should be a disclosure saying that I do not wish for anybody to document except for the dealership to sell Information to Carfax or any other company without my permission if anybody should be getting paid the vehicle, the dealerships paid selling my car and never give permission to sell my car. This is disgusting how they make money and kickbacks Carfax. January 3 is the most current update but I have been impacted in the last 3 to 4 weeks about information on my vehicle so the date I put as of today I’ve got two messages from them
