**Beautiful setting, but disappointing service and value for money
Firstly, this is a beautiful hotel in a lovely, peaceful location, and the rooms were very clean and spacious. Breakfast was also wonderful. However, for the price and the five-star standard being charged, our stay fell well short of expectations.
One of the main reasons we chose this hotel was because the website stated that bikes could be hired from reception, which seemed ideal given the remote location. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the bikes were out of order. When we asked reception for help finding somewhere else to hire bikes, we were met with a negative and unhelpful attitude and felt that our request was seen as an inconvenience rather than something they were willing to assist with.
As a result, we needed to rely heavily on taxis. Again, whenever we asked reception to help arrange them, we felt that our requests were considered troublesome. Eventually, we gave up asking and booked the taxis ourselves using an app.
We also found the food and drink options rather limited. The breakfast was excellent, but the lunch menu was sparse, and the drinks menu, particularly the cocktail selection, was surprisingly limited for a hotel of this standard and price.
The rooms themselves were spacious and spotlessly clean, but unfortunately the mattresses were extremely hard. To their credit, when I requested a mattress topper, one was provided, and this did help.
Overall, the hotel has a lot going for it in terms of its location, appearance and cleanliness, but the lack of helpful customer service and the limited facilities and food and drink options made the stay disappointing. At a five-star price point, we expected a much higher level of service and attention to guests.
