Absolutely appalling and dangerous service – avoid, especially if you're a woman travelling alone
I pre-booked a taxi with Castle Cars in Arundel for collection from Ford station for a train scheduled to arrive at 8:50pm. I was a woman travelling alone, arriving at this remote country station, which is situated on a fast national speed limit road that is unlit and has no pavements — in other words, an incredibly unsafe place to walk, especially at night.
My train arrived at 8:52pm, just 2 minutes late and it’s arrival would have been clearly visible from the pick up area. I crossed the platform to the car park immediately, arriving just after 8:54pm — only to find no taxi waiting for me. The driver made no attempt to wait even a few minutes, nor did they try to contact me to check my location. They simply left, abandoning a lone female passenger on an isolated unmanned station at night.
As a result, I was forced to walk alone for a mile and a half along a highly dangerous road, in darkness— something that should never happen to anyone, particularly when a journey has been pre-booked and the risks are known to the company.
This company's behaviour was not just unprofessional — it was negligent and put my personal safety at serious risk. A complete failure of duty of care. I will never use this service again, and I note that a third of Tripadviser reviews and 67% of Trustpilot reviews for this company are one star! I strongly urge others — especially women travelling alone — to look elsewhere for reliable and responsible transport.
