Avoid Cathay Pacific if you have any medical condition

I flew Premium Economy from Singapore to Dallas via Hong Kong with a documented L4/5 disc injury and a letter from my neurosurgeon requesting appropriate seating. I specifically paid extra for Premium Economy because of my back condition, expecting more space and better seating options to manage my injury. What followed was a masterclass in corporate indifference that has left me with lasting consequences.
I called days before the flight to arrange an aisle seat so I could stand and move as medically required. I was told to either book an entirely new flight or raise it at check-in. At check-in in Singapore, staff shrugged and said they couldn't help with the Hong Kong to Dallas leg - try again in Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, same story. I was passed from person to person, nobody willing to take responsibility.
The result? Despite paying a premium fare for my medical needs, I was stuck in a middle seat for a 16-hour flight between two passengers who made it clear they weren't moving to make it easy for me to get out. This made it difficult to stand, stretch, and manage my condition. So much for the "premium" I paid for.
I was making good progress with my recovery before this flight. Following Cathay Pacific's failure to accommodate my documented medical needs, my condition worsened significantly and I now face months of additional rehabilitation. I'm back to square one, dealing with increased pain, and a recovery timeline that has been extended significantly - all because this airline couldn't be bothered to help.
Their official response? A copy-paste explanation of their "first come first served" seat policy. They completely ignored that this was a documented medical request, not a window-versus-aisle preference. No apology. No acknowledgment. Nothing.
I paid more expecting better. I got worse. If you have any medical condition, mobility issue, or expect basic human consideration, fly with literally anyone else.

Arrived home on our flight from Hong…

Arrived home on our flight from Hong Kong to Melbourne only to find that our Luggage (all 5) was left behind in Hong Kong. I raised this with the Cathay customer service team, only to receive a generic response with a lack of empathy and accountability. On the flight the crew moved our carry on without our consent, it was not until we raised our concerns that they asked if it was ok. I would be very reluctant to book with Cathay again as they demonstrate no accountability for the fault of mishandling our luggages, deflecting the blame on the passenger by providing advice that was demeaning. Show some accountability for god sake.

CX Great Business, Great People

Cathay Pacific Airways has been a great airline for decades. Their style has remarkably been successful in their industry. I like to say one thing about the airline business direction. " Very effective on the market. " Their strategy with the current executive group has been a sucessful story and it is a very competive market out there, but so far Cathay Pacific has not been dissapointed.

Disappointing customer care

Our flight from Narita to Hong Kong was delayed by four hours. Although we were booked onto another flight with a different airline this flight was also delayed, resulting in us missing our connecting flight to London Heathrow. We were then booked onto a flight to Zurich with another connection from Zurich to Heathrow. The flight to Zurich was delayed by an hour. We finally landed at Heathrow four and a half hours later than we should have. Although we appreciated the efforts of Cathay Pacific we had to buy new rail tickets on the day as we were too late for the train we had booked seats on (despite allowing what should have been ample time to get to the railway station). We were also allocated seats in economy for the final leg of our journey despite having paid for premium economy. I approached Cathay Pacific asking for reimbursement of the cost of replacement rail tickets whilst simultaneously our travel agent applied for compensation on the fare owing to the lack of premium economy seating from Zurich. Both claims were denied despite Cathay Pacific processing to being committed to customer care. We will not travel with Cathay Pacific again.

Cathay Pathetic - The airline with your wallet

Been a cathay member for now almost 30 years , however the recebt changed that started right after Covid travel restrictions ended are pathetic, the member program I seeing constantly diluted, while touted as "enhancement", redemption tickets on miles are next to impossible to book as blackout dates everywhere and only so called Diamond member shave preferred access , basically the mileages become worthless nowadays. The lounges in Hong Kong have dropped in cleaning and hygiene standards and while Cathy doesn't miss any opportunity to advertise sustainability , such simple thins as using a certified ecocleanin product in their lounges washrooms or Dinine area they can't even think of it seems, wise a month at least at HK lounge I use and washrooms constantly smell of stink and Urine. F&B offering at lounge years of serving same mediocre food, I just go for a coffee or a tea and checking e mails quickly theses as at time they so overcrowded since CX allows all sorts of other other programmes to use them. SOm shared lounges abroad such the one in Frankfurt are just outright terrible nowadays and completely overcrowed, staff becoming rude too. As for inflight service the slogan "service from the heart" which until 10 years ago was sincere nowadays should be rebranded as " Service through your wallet", ticket prices have exploded on same routes Y and J class double of other carriers and ticket changes are prohibitively expensive too. Recently on the bug in their system resulting in return flights not being credited for miles and status points so watch your accounts, happened 3 x times in a row and phone support staff does not seem to care nor to initiate Andy remedy with IT, website in general has issues , disconnects during booking and when you reconnect the price of ticket just went up how convenient the algorithm. CX sells the Premium carrier image but it has become an average player, only due to it squash monopoly status at its HK HUB it can extra their customers, and dont get me started on the inflight meals these days , I have starte buy-in my sandwich outside or just preorder a fruit platter . My advise when on same route where other carriers fly CX is not worth it anymore.

Worst experience ever

Worst experience ever. Unfortanely we made a wrong booking and saw this to late. When we tried to rebook we got stalled for hours on whatsapp cause they respond every half hour. And then stopped responding at all. Eventually flight missed and they wanted to charge us €450 penaltys on top of the fare difference and they even add 60usd for penalty for booking through an agency. So they wantes us to pay more then the actual tickets were online. Whole vacation ruined and lost 2500 cause they wouldnt help us.

I wish I’d read reviews before booking…

I wish I’d read reviews before booking with this corrupt and crooked airline. So many choices and if I could do it over again I’d fly Singapore air. I booked a flight and within seconds realized I messed up a date so I cancelled (which 99% of airlines allow). I had forgotten to put my Cathay Pacific number in which VOIDED Me receiving my refund without penalty. I had immediately rebooked with the correct date. Zero understanding all bc I forgot to write my number in. What a disgrace. I will be unsurprised when this company goes under with such a horrible image of customer service and reviews.

I got one kids meal and a tiny bottle…

I got one kids meal and a tiny bottle of water on my trip, by the end I was dehydrated after arriving in Hong Kong from EU after 20 hours, like 3 hours late. Missing my next flight, no assistance upon arrival which I asked for because this was my first time flying. So I had to walk around the airport for hours trying to figure out what to do by myself, no one speaks English so no one gave me any info. Absolute nightmare of a trip and I'll never fly with Cathay again.

Disgusting juice spilt on my tray and screen

My 14-hour flight on Cathay Pacific was ruined before it even started. My tray and screen were covered in spilled juice and felt sticky and disgusting. I told a flight attendant, but she didn’t seem to care and never helped. Being stuck in that dirty seat for such a long flight completely ruined my mood and the experience.

Cathay Pacific Unreliable Airline !

I booked four tickets from Singapore to Fukuoka and was disappointed by the experience. Our outbound flight faced delays, but we managed to catch our connection thanks to a two-hour layover. However, the return journey was far more frustrating. Bec of the flight delay we missed our connection and had to wait five-hour for the next flight !! They gave us 2 x 75hk food vouchers !!

I specifically chose the 8:30 PM flight, paying an extra $75 (total $300) to avoid the inconvenient 1:50 AM option. Given Cathay Pacific's history of delays, it's disheartening to see them selling such tight connections. This reflects a concerning lack of consideration for their customers.

This isn't my first negative experience with Cathay, and it raises serious questions about their service reliability. I urge the airline to reevaluate their flight schedules and improve communication with passengers. Until then, I will think twice before booking with them !!

Didn’t get the seat I selected and paid for

I have used CP several times the last few years. I paid for and selected an extra leg room seat, as I did each time. This occasion, they moved me out of my selected seat to another and it’s the worst. The seat is not tight, I get bumped by everyone passing in the isle, sleeping is impossible. Worst experience to date w any airline in my life. I contacted them two days before my flight, after I saw they switched my $180 upgraded seat. I was told there was nothing they could do. I just get screwed and have to suffer a 16 hour flight. Avoid this airline

Cathay Refuses Reimbursement on Flight Delays

Cathay Pacific while acknowledging a delay on their flight from hong Kong to Dallas refused to provide accommodation and meal reimbursement because of a missed connecting flight.
They also refuse to provide any details on baggage information for me and never informed me about a possible miss to my connecting flight

Unable to book flights online due to website issues, with prices fluctuating upwards all the time

Tried to buy tickets to Hong Kong last week but was not able to do so, due to extended website loading times and constant fails; asking me to refresh several times, with no success.

Left it for a few days and tried several times over the past two days, with three different laptops and two different phones - IOS and Android, still with no success.

The most recent one, about an hour ago, I got as far as seat reservation for the outbound journey but trying the same for the return, it loaded for about five minutes before failing and asking me to go back to the home page and start again.

This being the fifth or sixth time this evening, I followed the error message instructions to try to resolve the issue and contacted customer service.

The phone call took over 34 minutes and when the representative asked me whether I wanted to register a complaint, the representative even had issues in trying to do that due to computer issues.

Barlyn, the representative, was very apologetic and I daresay embarrassed by having trouble registering a complaint on what I had rung to complain about in the first place.

I appreciate it was only an economy ticket and we have not travelled with Cathay Pacific for about two years but it does make me wonder if we had been business, first class or more regular flyers, whether we would have had better service or is this part of the plan to delay the purchase; since we're a captive audience, to allow the prices to fluctuate upwards, coincidentally, never downwards.

Pleasantly Surprised

I flew from London to Manila and back via Hong Kong in November (13th to 22nd) and for the most part it was an enjoyable experience. The staff on the plane were friendly, helpful and polite as was the check-in staff when I was in Manila and they even got my special meal correct (and delicious it was too) most of the time. The minor issues I had was the charging port didn't work on my rear seat screen and the member of staff at Heathrow who wasn't very helpful when I was unable to print off my luggage label as it was my first time but overall it was a very good experience for me.
