Disappointed- hotel needs some TLC. ,bar/ lounge area painted in depressing grey , not in keeping with such a beautiful old building.
Some of the staff seemed bored & not particularly interested in their guests,
( other than a couple of staff at breakfast- who are always friendly & welcoming)
Please don’t let your standards drop , have been visiting this hotel for many years now , & I do feel it has deteriorated.🙁

Booked a room for an upcoming event and asked if I could exchange the use of the leisure facilities to use the golf course (told them I would pay extra). Was very aggressively that this was not an option so I made a joke that my review would not be good and they simply cancelled my booking. Several weeks later they're sending me emails wanting to welcome me to tomorrows event that they've banned me from. Phoned them and the receptionist couldn't give me an email to put a complaint forward too and hung up twice saying I was being aggressive despite me making a point of being polite and confirming the call was being recorded so I could use it as part of my complaint. What an unpleasant place!

Be warned: the photos on Booking.com are misleading. You’re shown beautiful castle rooms but are likely placed in the tired annex at the back. Our room was dirty, musty, and badly maintained — pubic hairs in the sink, greasy chairs, and a filthy remote. No fridge, no water, and a confusing shower. The bistro was loud and uncomfortable.
Yes, the health club was decent, the grounds were pretty, and breakfast was good — but overall this was a disappointment and not what was advertised.
