Media Assisted Racism in Canada

I am writing my review on behalf of the Canadian Black population in this country and just how much Canadian media contributes to the continuance of exclusion, stereotyping, and the generalization of the Canadian black community.

The news outlets help to keep the belief that black people in Canada are the cause of crime in Canada; yet, fail to notify the public how biased Canadian society's views towards black people continue to be.
We've seen the Human Rights Act revamped in 1996 to provide anti-hate laws for one out of the 4 most marginalised groups in Canadian society; however, there are no laws existing to protect the Black Community from antisemitism, or unfair treatment we've received in this country since the 1700s.
CBC has never aired the case of the missing black teens who've been disappearing at an alarming rate since October of 2024, and has never responded to emails sent by various black members of the community requesting to share the disappearance of our black teens across Ontario.
In October of 2024, a Jamaican Rugby Player named Alpachino Mignott arrived in Canada for a Rugby match and was murdered in the country; yet, his disappearance and death has never received public awareness at all!
If a Canadian football player with no criminal history was discovered murdered in Jamaica, there is no doubt that the story would be publicized!
The injustices the Black Community faces in Canada is never truly shared, nor do any media outlets use their access to the public to hold law enforcement, and the decision makers accountable for the barriers that we face being black in Canada.
During the coldest and shortest month of the year our history is celebrated in Canada; however, we've never received reparations, or revamped the law to discontinue the atrocities black people face in Canada.
I find it quite tragic that an innocent black, Jamaican Rugby Player would visit this country for a Rugby game, and lose his life with no public awareness that he was murdered mysteriously in this country.
CBC is one of the media outlets in Canada that has the means to share this news, yet they don't!
Black people are only portrayed as a problematic ethnic group in Canada, and media outlets such as CBC helps to keep this narrative relevant and existing since the Transatlantic slave trade began many years ago.

Embarrassd and ashamed

I’m embarrassed for CBC and their reporters for clearly leaning one way on political news reporting. This used to be a news station every Canadian was proud of, what happened?

Avoid this company

Avoid this company! I was having an issue with my car's central locking and starting. I changed the battery in my key fob to try and resolve it but it didn't work. Because I did this, CBC said it invalidated my policy because it was classed as DIY! Despite explaining that changing a battery on a key fob is not DIY, it's just a sensible action, they refused to come out. This company just wants to use it's Ts&Cs to wriggle out of helping. Absolute disgraceful organisation.

On the 11th June

On the 11th June, 2024 I could no longer get CBC gem to work. When this happens I go from my android box to my PC where it used to always work. I now find that I cannot get CBC on any of my devises. This problem seems to occur every couple of months and after waiting a couple of weeks or so it gets back to normal when I download it again. Of all my channels, this only happens on CBC.

CBC HOCKEY NIGHT IN WINNIPEG

This station is suppose to be Canada's national TV station. What a freaking joke. Last night they televised the Winnipeg hockey game and showed it in Edmonton while the Oilers where playing in LA. WHAT A BUNCH OF USELESS What happened to Hockey Night in Canada? WHY should I have to have Sportnet to watch my home team in the playoffs. So much for my national sport. Way to go CBC.

Same news clips replayed in hour

I've been watching the 6 pm cbc news for awhile now. I've noticed recently that its only about a half hour long with many segments repeating in the second half hour. The exact same clip will be played. What's up with that? I'm sure there's lots of news stories out there. Is it a 30 min program or 60 min program?

Programming of ads is Obnoxious and terrible

I have recently been watching a couple of shows on CBC Gem and I have to say the programming is appalling! The shows are good but the repitition of the same ads over and over and over and over and over and over again is getting to the point where I’m feeling like I want to gouge out my eyes and ears!!!! I HATE seeing the same and ONLY ad time and time again. It’s horribly obnoxious and is making me not want to use the app. How can they justify presenting such programs when CBC is publicly funded. It’s shameful, obnoxious and entirely annoying. I will watch to the end of the show I’m in the middle of but I will NOT continue watching or supporting CBC in the future. Two thumbs WAY down….zero stars!

Nothing of Value to See Here

I've stopped looking at anything related to CBC reporting. If I had the power, 99% of it would be dissolved and the few good reporters left, could rebuild it in some form of a private corporation.

apparent slanted and bias reporting

Over the last four years, it is increasingly apparent that CBC often issues "news" stories with pro-liberal slant; does not always offer both sides of a story or properly qualify both sides of a story, and often appears to be slanted to pro-liberal reporting that appears to protect or shield news that would go against a Liberal position; re a memorable example would be the Truckers Freedom Rally - throughout which CBC was vastly and widely accused of bias reporting, to protect the governments (CBC paymaster) position. CBC is a PUBLIC agency, paid for by public tax dollars, NOT an agency beholden to its paymaster - the government of Canada. Most recently, reportage of Carbon Tax issue, which most tax-payers feel contributes largely to inflation and the high-cost of living, in editorial commentary fashion, appeared to come down soundly on the pro-carbon tax side of things - all members chosen for the panel were pro-carbon tax, no-one to represent opposing side. Real journalism and traditional news reportage actually and simply holds that both sides of an issue are given even keel, the reporter is only there to deliver balanced reportage - and refrains from having opinions. In my opinion, CBC often leans toward "perception management", rather than objective reporting. This bit of reportage I would hazard to say was in poor taste and insensitive to the millions of Canadians who are suffering at the hands of high cost of living at present.

The cbc is disgusting and biased in its reporting. I am shocked the they sensationalize important stories and fail to report the facts for use. It is better to report facts and let us make up our own minds rather than push an agenda. And when you try to find additional information or ask for the other side of the story they shut you right down and don't respond. It's sad that we all pay for this pathetic mess of a once proud institution.

The CBC is a biased corporation that…

The CBC is a biased corporation that avoids many stories that would give Cdn's, a clear picture of what is happening with our Liberal govt.
Comments from readers on stories of concern, are often censored, even when following guidelines. Commenting is not even offered to readers on many stories.
At $1.6 billion in public taxpayer funding, there is far too much unnecessary reporting on issues that may only be of interest to a tiny percentage of Cdns.
