Not for us in it’s current condition
We arrived in the car park after an 150 mile drive and immediately alarm bells and question marks. The entrance to the car car park was untidy, lots of weeds loose gravel everywhere and an untidy and tired looking barn ahead of you. Entered reception and the reception area and bar area opposite was extremely tired, grubby with old furniture, stripping paint and a strong smell of stale food/cooking.
We must point out that the chap on the reception desk was excellent and offered good customer service in his manner towards us as customers. He was courteous, happy, very friendly, helpful and had a sense of humour.
We were taken to our room and an even bigger disappointment. The furniture and fittings were old and dated, the drawers had dirty marks all over, the carpet was dirty with a huge stain and in need of a clean or replacement. The wardrobe was a cupboard without an handle on the door, it had shelving and boxing but the boxing had some sort of hole/gap where it had probably been damaged. The power and aerial cables from the wall mounted television were just dangling in front of the radiator, unless you are under 5 feet tall you had to stoop to enter the shower area which was tiny. It was a warm day but not hot so we wondered why the window was wide open! It was open because there was an underlying musty/damp/mouldy smell.
Although it’s an old building, it is clear to see that it has been neglected over the years. We do not know how old the pictures are on the website, but they do not depict the hotel in its current condition.
We are not hotel snobs but had to leave at 10pm at night to find alternative accommodation.
This hotel has the potential to be a fabulous little gem but needs some TLC and a few pound spending on a refurb.
