Splendid gardens but ...
The gardens were, as ever, stunningly beautiful and enjoyable.
We felt that the self-confessed departure, from the successful sculpture showing format of the past several years, was disappointing. In our opinion a rather poor showing in comparison to the “Beyond limits” displays. We are grateful for an attempt to be more informative through the guide book but missed the single sheet map, with small pictures, which had become a regular feature.
We are not averse to change but we came for the sculptures and the experience left us all feeling a little disappointed.
Chatsworth Old Park
We had a guided walk around the Old Park. It was very peaceful and beautiful. Our guide, Dave, was really knowledgeable and friendly
Gorgeous garden walk
My husband and I explored the gardens of Chatsworth and were astounded by the sheer variety of places to explore (gardens, ponds, woods, waterfalls, rocks, etc.). The grounds are beautifully kept. I only wish the cost of entry into the house, etc. were lower; I would have loved to have seen the rest of the estate. One could easily spend a full day here!
Beautiful house
Beautiful house, gardens and so much history, more than enough to see for a day out, pricey but book on line to save £4 on car parking.
You have to visit!
I have visited many a stately home and thought I’d best visit Chatsworth as it was in the area and also due to its Pride and Prejudice connection. I had read the blurb and thought it looked rather grand. Well, the drive down to the entrance is awe inspiring and took my breathe away. Chatsworth IS grand and the best stately home I have ever visited. The gardens were a joy to walk around, I came in October, so not too many flowers out, but the fountains, trees, greenhouses and different areas of the land were beautifully kept and a joy to stroll in. The atmosphere was relaxed and it was lovely to see people bringing their dogs and toddlers for an afternoon meander. I went on the buggy tour which explained the history of the gardens and gave me my bearings.
I also had the Belvedere Tower tour which again gave a history of the views from the top. Very interesting. The house is beautiful. Each room had a story to tell and the information boards in each room were very handy (I wish every tourist museum/house had them). The staff were so knowledgable and fun to talk to. The restaurants are cleverly placed in the old stables and the food was very good. Overall a fabulous day which exceeded my expectations. The grounds were immense so could have stayed much longer.
Enjoyed our time at Chatsworth
Enjoyed our time at Chatsworth, staff exceptional. Was helped with our elderly Uncle. He was escorted to the lift so was able to see around the house. Staff very nice and answered any question we asked. Food was really nice and the gardens were amazing.
lovely food--with veggie/vegan options too.
Took a Chinese visitor round...the house tour took us 3 hours as she was fascinated with EVERYTHING!
Great that photos are allowed.
Lovely and courteous staff to talk to.
Also, food in the Stables excellent, from cakes/cream tea to vegan/veggie options. (Did the Downton Abbey tour and there was NOTHING suitable to eat for veggies/vegans there.)
One day was not enough time to see…
One day was not enough time to see everything particularly when it was very busy. We recently visited Alnwick castle and for the initial entrance fee it was possible to go the following day as well. So we did the castle one day and the gardens the next. Much more enjoyable.
I particularly enjoyed the guided tour round the Chatsworth gardens and sculptures, so much better than going round on our own.
Had a fantastic day not been for years

Really glad we went today
Way beyond expectations absolutely…
Way beyond expectations absolutely amazing would go back time and time again. Staff were fantastic and so friendly. House, gardens and play area just fantastic the family loved it.
Chatsworth - Amazing restoration
Visited Chatsworth, amazing restoration work has been completed. We had not visited for several years. We were very impressed with the house and gardens. The sculptures in the garden are superb blending old with contemporary. Will certainly be visiting again
Is there another unpromoted option?
Got there at promoted opening time of 11am to find loads of people swarming about and lots of cars in the car park. It looked like they had been there for a while. So Chatsworth, is your website hiding another option: Come and walk around the estate for the price of parking your car? The gardens were lovely [and that's what we bought a ticket for] but we actually spent more time just walking round the estate and having some teas/coffees.
Beautiful place
Beautiful place, great shop and restaurant. The history and grounds are amazing.
The adventure playground
The adventure playground was possibly the nicest playground I have been to with my children. The picturesque setting on the hill is beautiful, and the range of equipment kept my two busy exploring for two hours. I liked the fact that there was plenty for a wide age range, and none of it was “too safe”; They had plenty of opportunities to be daring and brave, and they adored the trampoline in the middle of the big climbing area. Also, the toilets next to the toddler area were perfectly located for our friends who needed to do nappy changes.
A beautiful home with a lot of history
A beautiful home with a lot of history. A lot to see in the garden and a very enjoyable maze. Many food options available also from afternoon tea to Cornish pasties. A lovely day out
The house is amazing!
The house is amazing — too much to take in at one visit — the the gardens are even more so. Mr Brown certainly knew what he was doing even if he probably never saw the mature product of his labours.
Just as I imagined
Beautiful house and garden. Thoroughly enjoyed exploring the gardens with so many interesting themes to discover.
Delicious brunch in the Flying Childers, would definitely recommend.
Would be a lot better if tickets are exchangeable, even at some fee.
The ticket bought online is not exchangeable or refundable. I get the idea of not providing refund, but offering exchange or at least at a small fee would make this sounds much more friendly.
We bought three tickets but due to unforeseen reason we could not make it. £63 dumped. Very unhappy.
I have been wishing to visit Chatsworth…
I have been wishing to visit Chatsworth House for a long time and it met my expectations. The history of the house is fascinating and the house itself is amazing with art, antiques and much more. We really enjoyed it. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable. The weather helped, it was a gorgeous day. We’re just a bit cross with ourselves that we forgot to use our voucher in the cafe or shop.
Beautiful place to visit
Beautiful place to visit. Plenty for kids to do too. Would recommend you go for opening time and spend all day .
