Fantastic staff and professionalism.

From being booked in and prepared for surgery, to being fully updated about the procedure by Surgeon MR Bacon and the care provided by theatre staff to the aftercare provided by nurses Will and Lucy was nothing short of fantastic, they all went above and beyond looking after me from start to finish they are a credit to Claremont (Spire) hospital.
The catering staff who take your meal orders, prepare fantastic food and serve you are also a credit.
Absolutely deserve a full five stars.

I went privately to see a consultant

I went privately to see a consultant . £250 fee. He suggested tests , simple blood , chest rxray, cardio gram and 24 hour monitor .
They don’t issue an invoice, they are very crafty at taking charge before they itemise how much and they take card payment. So you are not sure what you are paying for . When I asked for invoices there were extra charges for consultant to ‘ interpret results’!!!!! I said surely I have paid. Consultant fee, why should this be. I went for first consultation with results done on NHS!!! He did not charge for this!!! I think it’s outrageous. It’s OK for people on insurance , the insurance companies will just pay.
I had to pay with my own hard earned money. Be extremely careful what you sign up for, you are asked to sign but it’s very woolly and you’re not in a great position to read. I was told by consultant test will be about !!! Check before to agree I think it’s a bit of a rip off .

Dreadful phone contact

Whilst the hospital is excellent-unfortunately that cannot be said of the phone lines-getting through to the hospital is one big nightmare it’s virtually impossible to get connected to anyone the phone just rings and rings-it’s so very stressful-phone calls don’t go direct to the hospital they’re picked up by a call centre then transferred….who this , or where this call centre is is obviously the cheapest one that they could get given how nobody picks up the phone- it’s a dreadful service !!!

Excellent Service

From my first consultation to my pre-op checks through to check in, surgery and after care I have nothing but praise for the hospital. Every member of staff gave me confidence and what could have been a daunting experience was almost pleasurable. Pre and post surgery care were excellent. Communication throughout the process was clear. One very happy customer !

Recently had a full hip replacement…

Recently had a full hip replacement operation. From making the initial enquiry booking the consultant and having the operation itself the care l received was first class. You cannot single any individual out . They were all fantastic under stressful circumstances. Thank you so much to all the team at Claremont. Stuart Hobson

Mr David Dujon - NEGLIGENT TREATMENT

My experience was nothing short of distressing and disappointing, and I feel it's important to warn others about the care I received.

I had a consultation with Mr Dujon for Rhinoplasty. During the consultation, Mr Dujon hardly examined my nose, he only looked at my nose on the outside and did not look what he was going to be operating on from the inside. He was happy to undertake the procedure and I subsequently booked in.

When Mr Dujon started the operation and opened my nose up, he discovered that I had a large perforated septum - I did not know about this myself and have since found out it can be common for people to be unaware that they have one. Now I know it is there, it only takes a slight glance up my nostrils to see it - something Mr Dujon should have picked up on in the consultation. After discovering it in the operation, he knew the procedure was going to be difficult to complete. Instead of stopping the operation, he decided to carry on anyway and make a horrendous job of it. He could not complete the procedure to his best ability because of the hole in my septum and if he knew about this before, he would have not agreed to the procedure.

Due to the negligence and inadequate care, it has caused me problems and I have now got to pay to have my septum repaired and then the procedure completed again. Claremont have gladly kept the money I paid to them and offered nothing back to me. I have also found Mr Dujon to be dismissive of his actions, quoting his words to me; ‘accept the status quo’. This incident should have not happened - a thorough consultation should have been undertaken however as this failed, there was still another opportunity for Mr Dujon to not let it happen. He could have stopped the operation immediately but instead, he decided to attempt it whilst vulnerable me was under general anesthetic and therefore not getting a say in the matter!

I strongly advise others to avoid Mr Dujon and the Spire Claremont Hospital.

If l could give 0 l would.I had great…

If l could give 0 l would.I had great life, great job and family.
As a Hgv driver/industrial cleaner and supervisor. About13 years ago approximately l was earning £40k a year back then.
I had an L5/S1 discectomy with Mr Jellinek my neurosurgeon which was successful but unfortunately l collapsed at work after a 15hr shift. I went back to Mr Jellinek for revisional surgery on the same disc with Mr Jellinek and was told he had a skiing accident and broken his leg.I have my doubts wether it was true or not or wether he was treating a private paying patient or not?
So he was replaced by Mr McMullan who performed the surgery that ended my Career, my lifestyle. I have had 10 years under my pain management Dr Farquarson consultant who tried every treatment including radio ablation I had an Mri scan at the Thornbury Hospital in Sheffield with contrast with Mr Radatz who confirmed their is hardly anything left of my L5/S1 disc but is too dangerous to operate because I have a mass of scar tissue and epidural fibrosis.
He was very synthetic and said if l had come to him in the first place things would probably being different.l take 2,400mgs of gabapentin for the chronic pain, oramorph and diazapam for my swelling at the bottom of my bank. Osteoarthritis everywhere.
Mr Radatz proved how good he was by performing acdf surgery on my C6 disc 18 months ago.My pain is getting worse.l have seen my private Chiropractor Ulrik Sandstorm for years and nothing is working.
I am in that much pain going through bags of ice and even heat and have looked into medical cannabis which l discussed with Dr Farquarson Pain management consultant at Chesterfield Royal Hospital who said there haven't been any trials yet the GMC granted licences to clinics who have sold over £20,000 worth of prescriptions for chronic pain etc.So my medical exemption certificate is no good there. They want £150 consultation fee and about £300 per month after. If you don't have the cash you are treat like a second class citizen.
I wish l had been sent to Mr Radatz at the Thornbury Hospital instead of the Claremont. But l Couldn't afford to.So now l am living in my own world of hell and pain and spend most of my time in bed.Thank you everyone. My reviews is about my overbearing daily pain now but essentially my fatal operation was in 2013 approx.😢

I would not reccomend this hospital

I would not reccomend this hospital at all. The nursing care is seriously lacking.
My pain was not managed well during my stay for a knee replacement.
Thankfully i have a good result with my knee replacement, but that's down to the surgeon and anesthesiologist, not the nursing team.
I have had numerous surgeries at 4 different hospitals. The nursing care here was by far the worst.

Excellent hospital

I have used the Claremont on numerous occasions and have always found the staff to be professional. The hospital itself is clean, well maintained with kind caring and very helpful staff. Highly recommended for private healthcare.

Superb staff

This was my second foot op at Claremont with the same consultant, Mr Howard Davies, he is fantastic. He really put me at ease with his friendly demeanour and was careful to fully explain the procedure to me; very impressed and pleased with him. I also have to mention the Anaesthetist, whose name I forget, was also brilliant. The theatre staff were very friendly and also put me at ease. All in all a very good experience with all staff interactions excellent.

Surgery

I was admitted for surgery at spire clairmont hospital Sheffield on the 20th May under the care of Mr Morritt.

The whole experience has been exceptional.

The staff at the hospital are all amazing, every single person I have spoken to have been kind caring and compassionate. They take the time for you, are very helpful and understanding. As a nurse my self I know all to well the pressures of the health care system at times, but this did not show at all. From the reception team to outpatients, to the ward and theatres all the staff were amazing. The food was lovely and the hospital was very clean and tidy with cleaners in my room daily.

Everyone all ways took time to talk to me and make me feel at ease ensuring I was in no pain and comfortable. The after care has been great to from the out patients department.

My surgeon Mr Morritt has also been outstanding right from my initial consultation he has all ways been on hand to answer my countless end of questions and enquires. His work and skills have been amazing and while I am still very early in my recovery I absolutely love my results and have new confidence which he has given me. After loosing a lot of weight and after 3 children  I was still very self conscious with my body but he has restored my confidence and my body, and made me feel I do not need to hide away any more. He has always been very open and honest in his professional opinions on what will work the best for me while also taking the time to listen and discuss what out comes and expectations I had and I appreciate that so much as my results are perfect.

I had a hernia repair also and Mr goodfellow was so kind and informative when I met him, and gave me all the information I needed and what he would be doing in his part of my surgery.

And the anaesthetist consultant was amazing to I was so scared of been put to sleep for such a long time and about the pain post op. But on the morning we met he explained everything to me in a way I understood, on what was going to happen which put me at ease straight away. He spoke about pain relief and how this would be managed for me post op on the ward to ensure I was comfortable and I was after i woke it was managed perfectly. Even in the anaesthetic room he was kind and explained everything that was happening, the other staff were also amazing as I was very anxious and emotional but they held my hand and wipped my tears as I was safely put to sleep.

I cannot make any fault in any of the care i received. The few days I was on the ward all the staff went above and beyond to ensure I was looked after. I can not thank every one enough they are all a credit to your company and how amazing the hospital runs.

Also a big thank you to Sara Stansfield staff nurse who has been great throughout my whole journey.

Thank you all for a lovely experience, for the kind and compassionate care at the most vulnerable time of a person's life, I appreciate everything that was done for me.

Overall fantastic hospital

Overall fantastic hospital. Everyone was pleasant and kind, apart from one night-duty nurse. The surgeon and consultant who did my operation was excellent. I had been referred directly to her for potential surgery, by my GP, bypassing rheumatology in chesterfield who refused and it seems even lied to me about no possibility of surgical help. The Claremont surgeon took one look and said my foot is kaput and needs surgery, no question. I’m so grateful to her for this. Hopefully, if it’s a success, I’ll be able to resume some fitness activities. What a fantastic hospital Claremont is. So different to the NHS. It’s how healthcare should be.

Claremont Hospital (Excellent Experince)

I was admitted into the Claremont hospital on the 10th of November for Lumber Laminectomy surgery under Consultant Mr Michael Athanassacopoulos. As soon as I was met by the nurse she showed me to my bed, and run myself through the next steps of the process very clearly.
Not long after I was visited by the Anaesthetist who talked me through the Anaesthetic procees which made me at ease with the process.
Next I was visted by the consultant Mr Michael Athanassacopoulos who talked me through my opertion what time i was going to theatre, how long the opertion would take and made sure I was happy.
I felt very realaxed happy and really comfortable.
Once Id had my opertion and taken back to the ward the nurses took great care in making sure I was comfortable.
When later I was visted again
by Mr Athanassacopoulos who talked me through the opertion and how it went.(very reassuring)
All that night the nurses looked after me making sure I was ok.
First thing in the morning I was visted by the Consultant who was happy with me and released me from hospital making sure before I go I had an aftercare plan in place.

To conclude the experience I had from all the staff at the claremont from the Consultant, anaesthetist, nurses physio.
was absolutely first class and I highly recommend this Hospital.

Thank you,
James

Appalling Nursing neglect on the night…

Appalling Nursing neglect on the night following TKR leaving me disabled for the rest of my life. After waiting months to attain my medical records, it is now clear that my medically prescribed analgesia was deliberately withheld. I told the senior nurse that my heart would give out with the amount of pain she deliberately left me in. Hour upon hour of unbearable, agonising pain. She told me to 'relax 'and closed the door to my single room. I suffered heart damage and a stroke from this nightmare experience. Other nurses cared as expected and to a high standard. But the two particular Nurses on duty that night were heartless, devoid of any compassion and had no interest in fulfilling their duty of care. If you have to stop overnight, you are playing Russian Roulette with your life.

Some not all doctors here are not good

The NHS says patients can get 2nd opinions and doctors can’t discriminated but Mr Chapple who works at the Claremont ended my care with the whole colorectal Dept when I got one + this was after a complication. He also medically gaslighted me for 2 yrs

A letter on 14.11.18 before Mr Chapple knew about the 2nd opinion said

‘Mr Chapple or another clinician would be more than happy to find a solution to your problems'
His secretary on 20.1.20 wrote she was going to contact the surgeon I’d got a 2nd opinion from and my next letter from Mr Chapple on 20.3.20 said

‘It was agreed there were no further surgical treatment the colorectal department could offer you. It was also discussed that the therapeutic relationship that exists between yourself and the surgical specialists involved in your care had completely broken down’

The GMC has rules when a Dr can end a r.ship (abuse, theft) and what he must do (warn patient first) but Mr Chapple didn’t follow ANY of these.

I asked him in 2020 to not end my care but he showed no concern but when I threatened to raise a concern about him to the GMC he quickly changed his decision (which showed me he knew he was wrong) and let me see his colleague but then said nothing could be done and his colleague echoed his words.
In 2018 when I asked if there had been a surgical error he changed + I was medically gaslighted from 2018-2020. A letter from him on 21.9.18 said

‘I arranged for repeat ano-rectal manometry which was performed on 23.7.18. This shows reduced pressures compared to the previous manometry’

A letter from him on 29.4.19 said ‘she has a number of psychological issues which are influencing the perception of the severity of her symptoms’

I couldn’t understand how he could see my symptoms had gone worse and say the problem was psychological but I now know it’s medical gaslighting, it’s dismissing the facts and lying that the patient has psychological problems and using that to not help the targeted patient and caused me A LOT of distress.

I received 5 responses full of medical gaslighting, the 21.2.19 letter said ‘further physical treatments should not be offered until your psychological issues have been addressed. The 8.5.19 letter said ‘your psychological problems need to be addressed and that until that time it would not be appropriate to refer you for further ano rectal investigations’ I sent questions in Feb, Mar, Apr and May 2019 but Mr Chapple on 21.5.19 said ‘we are unable to provide you with any further information and. . . continued correspondence with you would not be beneficial . . . . .further emails we receive from you will be filed and not responded to’.

He used the gaslighting to refuse me treatment, a diagnostic test and answers from 2018-2020. He knew I’d tried a treatment with his colleague in 2016 which hadn’t worked, 3 alternative treatments that hadn’t worked and then there was the complication after surgery with him and I was very upset but he still treated me like this and went to end my care in 2020 over a 2nd opinion. This is now way to treat a vulnerable patient.

NHS rules say if something goes wrong the NHS provider must tell you what will be done to put things right and I sent this to Mr Chapple but he dismissed it + I didn’t understand this as these are the rules but this is medical gaslighting, the facts are dismissed.

I didn’t have psychological problems + Mr Chapple knew it. On 24.5.18 I asked for a referral to a Dept to discuss the complication. In 2018 I emailed Mr Chapple about some tests that might help and on 3.8.18 Mr Chapple himself wrote to me about these. The questions I sent Mr Chapple Feb-May 2019 showed all the research I’d done into collagen synthesis for wounds, NICE guidance about my health. I also sent Mr Chapple 2 emails in Oct 2019 and Feb 2020 about reading NHS nutrition for wounds + a report on supplements. I sent receipts of protein, mineral purchases + there were more examples but he continued to medically gaslight me.

I attended endoscopy today

I attended endoscopy today. The staff were wonderful and made me feel very confident and relaxed. The procedure was handled expertly and the consultant was very professional. The waiting room and the ward were comfortable and very clean. Covid-19 measures were in place and the whole experience was stress free and I would highly recommend this hospital.
