Solar installation mixed review

I had a solar installation comprising of 14 panels and 2 storage batteries installed in April 2023. During the site survey it was recommended that the batteries were installed in the loft due to a lack of adequate sites elsewhere in the property. We don't have a utility room, the garage is detached, albeit 2 metres from the main property and it was not recommended to install them outside because of temperature variances throughout the year. The installation was done on time and we have benefitted from significant reduction in energy bills.

Unbeknownst to me, Solar regulations changed in 2024 and the advice is now not to install in the loft due to fire risk. We have also developed a creaking noise from the loft when it is windy, which appears to be due to the batteries and inverter being installed on the gable end roof truss.

I have spoken with clever energy and the installation is no longer covered by the 2 year warranty and it would cost £2000 to move the batteries and inverter to a safer location. Their advice is to install a smoke alarm in the loft and to add additional bracing to the roof truss to see if it stops the creaking.

I was not entirely satisfied with their response to our issue hence the 3 star review. Otherwise I would be giving a 5 star review, as I was more than happy with the system till I found out about the fire risk and loud creaking in windy conditions.

Very happy with price

Very happy with price, speed of installation and quality of work. Neat and tidy job and Carl in particular was helpful. Only reason I have not given 5 stars is that we had configuration issues with the inverter which took too long to resolve, partly because GivEnergy (the manufacturer) was slow to respond.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
If there is any issue with your solar PV you have absolutely no comeback. They promise then don’t deliver. They will take your money install a defective system then ignore you! You have no consumer protection.

Wouldn't give me a quote unless my husband was there, misogynistic company policy

I requested a quote from Clever Energy and received a phone call from Nick who went through a few questions with me before wanting to arrange a phone call with a surveyor. I agreed to the call from the surveyor to go through the options and get a price. I was then called back by Nick to say that they wanted my husband on the call, I had previously advised that my husband couldn't be on the call.
Nick informed me that with all the information given by the surveyor that I wouldn't be able to explain it to my husband. I explained that if they couldn't deal with me and provide me with the quote then not to bother.
They did not call me at the agreed time so I'm assuming we are in the 1950's and the 'little woman' can't understand solar panels.
It really does beggar belief that a company can have such a misogynistic policy as their standard practice.
So ladies if you are capable of thinking for yourself and don't require a man to tell you what to think keep away from this company. They won't give you a quote anyway!

Not a supplier I would Trust now they may have duped others

This company confused me a lot. They recommend against panels from Jinko, Trina and JA Solar as their warranties may become invalid due to slave labour issues. However their panel from Longi have exactly the same issues. They made two comment on not applying to Longi because they are tier 1 and it’s only companies who buy parts from them that use slave labour. However JA Solar, Trina and Jinko are also tier 1 suppliers and Trina and JA Solar get the questionable component from Longi. All four are listed in a Sheffield Jul 23 report updated Nov 23 with Longi being very high risk and Jinko high risk of using supplies from slave labour. When this is pointed out they advise quote “I would advise the Jinko system would suit you best“. I had never mentioned a Jinko system only that they had been one brand of panels in previous quotes along with Aiko, Sharp and Longi. This is incredible and so I asked why they would recommend either Longi or Jinko with the articles I had referred back to them. Including the Sheffield report . I cannot trust such a supplier, especially with the underlying sarcasm in the correspondence. I have edited this to give more direct information following the reply below. They did not recommend any panel as we were discussing issues with Panel brands and I had made no suggestion of a preferred panel other than possibly Aiko because of available panel sizes, I stated I was open to any panel options. I certainly did not indicate a Jinko panelled system was my choice as at that time the top option used Aiko. Given the contents of the report I would avoid panels likely produced with slave labour and do not understand a company advice against a panel at high risk but then use a panel at very high risk and also suggest I use a panel they had just advised against which was with good reason. Edited to cover comments below which are untrue.

Good Morning Stephen
We recommended that you choose the panel that best suits you and they were the ones you requested.
The other brands of panel we do not fit/supply, so we then we advised that you use that company.
We cant be more honest to advise another company over ourselves.
We are sorry to hear that you didn't find the experience worth while.
Good luck on you solar journey.

Regards

Terry

Fantastic full solar installation.

The installation was carried out to a high professional standard. The work was carried out with no mess left behind and all the equipment and apps were confirmed to be working before the installer left.

The installation is neat and tidy and easy to service in the future.

I am so pleased that I will be recommending friends and associates,
