Fab Customer service
Fab Customer service! I will forever recommend Clinton’s to friends and family after today’s experience. My Nanna bought my little boy a money box and it accidentally smashed I looked in all the stores I could and online but couldn’t find the same one.
I emailed CS to see if any stores had any left and the next business day I had a response. This was after the bank holiday too so I expected a response to take a bit longer... the next day I checked my emails to thank Lisa for her response to only see I had another email to say they had one in head office that they could send me! So not only did I get a response in a day Lisa and her colleagues had gone out of their way to see if there was anything else they could do!
Kudos to Clinton’s/ Lisa I was not expecting such amazing customer service.
Fantastic service today in Clinton's…
Fantastic service today in Clinton's cards kilmarnock. I believe it was the Manager & a sales associate. Two gents anyway ! They made purchasing 2 balloons a weight and some other items a fun & friendly experience. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Not interested in keeping customers happy..just following rules
Bought a Willow Tree figurine from the Blackburn store for my wife. She has loads already - most bought from Clintons. It's hard to remember which she's got and which she hasn't. It was a present and I was in town with my daughters who picked it out. We bought it several weeks before it was needed. Fast forward to present giving, and when my wife opened it, it was one she already had. I kept the receipt just in case that happened. We couldn't take it back immediately. When we returned it we thought there would be no problem. We only wanted to swap it for a different one, we had the receipt and the figurine hadn't even been taken out of the box. When we went to the counter the manager took one look at the receipt and said 'We can't do anything, you are out of the returns period'. Then she underlined the date on the receipt and said 'You have 28 days to return it - looks like you are one day over'. Sure enough, we were one day over the 28 day limit. We said could we not just exchange. She said absolutely not - there was nothing she could do, head office policy means they will do nothing after that time. She had a very rude and abrupt attitude - made me feel like a complete idiot in front of my children and a full shop.
So here is the deal Clintons and management. I WAS over the period and you are perfectly within your policy to refuse whatever you want. However, I am also perfectly within my rights to tell the world what an expensive card shop you are, with really quite rude management, incredibly expensive cards and gifts, and nothing unique that cannot be bought elsewhere for a significantly cheaper price. I was a regional manager for a large retail company for 12 years and my number one priority was to keep customers happy and coming back - if it could be done for a customer it was. As management you COULD do something if you actually wanted to make your customers feel valued. But you don't. So I for one will never shop at Clintons again...and I advise everyone else not to either. I have spent thousands in Clintons over the years, buying gifts, figurines, cards etc. Of course you don't know that because on each occasion I buy I am 'just a customer'. My advice to anyone shopping in Blackburn for gifts is go to the card factory around the corner for your cards. A lot cheaper and just as good. For your figurines there is H Samuels on the corner or just buy online - that way when you are ordering you can do it while sat in front of your figurines so you don't have a problem with duplicates. Oh, and Clintons - you need to realise that customers have a choice. Anybody want a £40 duplicate figurine?
One chain where the customer is not king!
Apparently they don't fill balloons in the hour before they close. Of course, they don't tell you that in the store blurb. I wanted six ballons filled 25 mins before closing. I had trekked across london because most stores closed earlier. There were two assistants on the cash desk. I asked if they could fill them and my server said not all these. I asked how many and he said best thing is to come back in the morning. I explained I needed them that evening so it was now or never and asked how many they could do please, and he said the manager had a no balloons after 8pm rule. I pointed out this was not listed on any website or in the store window and that I'd had twenty or more filled in the last half hour previously in other stores and asked if he could do the main two I wanted - numbers for the birthday age. He looked, picked up two small and said he could do those. I said I'd rather one large than two small and picked a third. I held up the three and he said that he meant only two small. I selected the first two which I thought were small and he pointed out that one was large. I said please ( what was I meant to do with 1 digit for a 2 digit birthday) and he reminded me about the no balloons after 8pm rule and I reminded him that it was not publicised anywhere so I had made the journey especially and he finally agreed.
He filled and bagged the two balloons in under 5mins, including coming to find me looking at cards to ask about ribbon colour (I didn't need ribbon at all). At that rate he could have filled another in the time it took to negotiate me down from three to two and could have filled another two had he just said I can't guarantee I can fill then all and create a bouquet - what do you want to do? I could have said loose in a bag is fine, do what you can and he could have filled all 6 in 10 mins cumulative between serving others and we could have laughed about it. When he handed them over there was no one else in the queue behind me and his colleague had gone back to wandering around the store. He wrote his name on the receipt - James. He didn't offer to fill another or to fill any more if there were gaps in the queue (I would have happily stood back to let the queue clear between), and apparently it was more important for the second server to roam the store than make a £25 sale. If this is the level of service from a chain of stores in trouble I despair. I've spent a LOT of money in Clintons over many years and now I don't want to go back. The most depressing thing is that it was obvious from his confidence that he knew his manager and the company would support him and defend his attitude - poles apart from a John Lewis employee who would focus on the possible, not the rules (like the guy who enlisted two colleagues and various non-standard tools to help prise a security lock off a pair of medium range headphones I wanted 10mins before closing, when his colleague with the key had left and I promised to buy it with ripped packaging and not return it, and his colleague who kept the till open and just laughed as I sprinted to him so as to be as quick as possible). Plus the internet has it's downside but there are hundreds of cheaper sources for balloons and unique cards, and The Card Factory on the high street - or the independent stores that value every customer because they know their rent and wages depend on it. Clintons, you lost a loyal customer yesterday, and a 91 year old with Alzheimers who absolutely adores balloons like a child only got two for her little party this year because her carer daughter had to work late to keep her job and Clintons employee prefer to wander the store and follow a made up rule they don't advertise than make a sale. And it seems minor, but these little disappointments build until carers get tired of trying to spin so many plates and feel they are not coping and either crack or put their loved one into the care of the state and everyone wonders why we have a social crisis.
No free bag provided
I spent £20 in my local Clinton’s and they couldnt give me a free bag to put them in. They always used to provide a free paper bag but have now swapped to plastic. Customers do not want to pay for a tiny plastic bag, why can’t they go back to paper and help their customers. Shall not be using them again.
Be very careful when you see "SALE" …
Be very careful when you see "SALE" signs above and down the side of racks of cards, especially when it's near the door in the place where there are sometimes genuine £1.00 cards in the sale. At these times the cards are not actually marked down but the discount gets taken off at the till.
Today I picked up a card in the rack with "SALE" marked clearly at the top and sides of the rack but was charged full price at the till. When I questioned it, I was told vaguely that the assistant THOUGHT the sale referred to gift items at the bottom of the next door racks. None of the cards on these racks were in the sale.
In my opinion this was deliberately designed to mislead customers and after you have gone to the trouble of choosing a card, it is annoying to know you could have chosen a better card for the same money if you had realised it wasn't in the sale.
A clear
Chatity items
I went into Clinton cards for a couple of birthday banners and walked to the till, while standing in line with my items there was clearly on view items on sale for a cancer charity. I don't appreciate being asked if I'd like to purchase one of these items when being served as if you say no while standing in busy line it makes you feel bad and I can clearly see the items so if wanted to purchase one I can make my own mind up. So for that reason clintons have lost a customer because I won't shop there again. I think giving to charity should be a personal choice. You shouldn't be pressured into it.
My order never arrived as they left it by my bins apparently...
I ordered Yankee Candles and paid £3.99 for delivery, I got home to find a delivery note saying 'left by bins' my parents were home before me and went to check by the bins to find nothing. So my parcel had been left there for anyone to take. I've emailed customer services who have now refunded me my delivery cost but i'm still without my items and have not been issued a refund or resent by products, why couldn't my items be left with a neighbour or delivered at another time. It's pathetic.. would never order from here again.
CELEBRITY Cards ...great fun!
Store Braehead Glasgow
Great range of occassion cards priced to suit every budget. High quality merchandise (cards) especially, way better than most even at the lower price range! They have a great range of cards for all occassions, reasonably priced.
Really loving the new range of cards (CELIBRITY FAST CARDS} with with an online code which then allows you to send a video message from a Celebrity. Sent one to my nephew delighted with his Birthday wishes on video from the Saturdays :D

Manager and staff so helpful & knowledgable. I also like all the little extra things you can buy! Much more than just a card shop! Keep up the good work @ Braehead!

CLINTON CARDS least said easiest mended...bad service in store and slow service on-line. The group has lost its way and fails to compete and complete at all levels.
