A common theme.....

The fact that Trustpilot states that this rogue Company hasn't invited customer reviews recently and doesn't reply to negative comments tells its own story.

A common theme from the previous postings on 12th July and 13th May last year - carb tune up. I was given an estimate to tune my 6 cylinder/tri carb engine. Eventual price charged was significantly higher and no obvious improvement.

Some months later I offered the Company the chance to recheck their work - they declined and said they would never work on my car again.

I took my car to a specialist garage. Turned out that it was so simple that they did not even charge me. They provided me with photos showing the 2 plugs being fuelled from one of the carbs soaked in fuel. Running far too rich and a simple 2 minute adjustment solved the problem.

The irony of Clydesdale advising me that they would not work on my car ever again, is that they then text me to advise that my car was due an MOT and to contact them.

Amateur chancers to be avoided at all costs.

You brought your car to us on 16/09/2025 for a carburettor tune up and that is what we did, and when the car left it was running good with no issues. You then contacted us a full 9 months later, (yes, 9 months) not to ask us to take another look at your car, but to straight away threaten us with legal action because you said your car was not running right. We will work on any Classic Car, but we will never accept abusive or threatening behaviour from any customer. Our guys are good at what they do, however, we do realise that mistakes do happen and we are always happy to discuss these and rectify them, we also always admit if we have made a mistake, this is definitely not one of those times we made a mistake.

Put my lotus excel in for carb tune up …

Put my lotus excel in for carb tune up and the charged me 2.5 hours £278.
They didn't adjust float hight or anything with jets just must have adjusted mixture screws and balance. (2.5 hours )

Any picked up car and didn't see any changes. Where they said it was running perfect. They said if I was unhappy they would have to look into rebuilding the carbs. Told them carbs had all ready been rebuild so had the engine by lotus

Friend Ended up balance and tune them in 30mins.

Firstly we would like to apologise for the experience you have had with our company. I have spoken to our mechanics about this but because this should have been a very straightforward task there are limited notes to see exactly what happened, and although this doesn't help your situation, we have updated our processes to ensure this type of situation never happens again.

Pup my Damiler in for a carburettor…

Put my Damiler in for a carburettor tune up was initially told 1 hour then changed then changed to 2 hours I agreed and put it in . I called to get a updated and was to they need to spend another 1 hour on it as still not running properly they had emailed rather than phone for authorisation we I picked up the car I was giving a bill of 4 hours labour which I did not agree to but paid it so be careful when putting a car in as your bill car increase very quickly. A phone call to explain things would have been better . Also car is still running a bit rough. @£90 a hour +vat I would think a bit more comunication by phone would help.

Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry we didn't communicate with you by phone, this was an oversight on my part and we will make sure that going forward we improve in this area. We booked your car in at very short notice because you said you needed to use the car that weekend and couldn't because of the running issues you were experiencing. Unfortunately we had to spend longer than anticipated on tuning your car because, as we told you, your engine has deeper issues that need resolved in order to fully rectify your running issues. Your car was in our workshop for a total time of 3.65 hours and we got it running as good as we could so that you can drive it until the other repairs are carried out.

Good job! 1965 Mustang

I sent my 1965 Mustang on a car transporter to Clydesdale in January 2025 to have the front brakes converted from drums to discs. I chose them as they seemed very knowledgeable on the phone about Mustangs and they were very responsive. They ordered the parts (which I paid them for when they arrived, just before Christmas) and in the New Year they were ready for the car, so I sent it off. They had the brakes done within a week and it was ready to come home, but when they test drove it they agreed with me the steering had a little bit of play. They gave me a fresh quote for the steering, which I was happy with and they ordered the parts from the US. Those arrived within 10 days and they did the repair straight away and I arranged for the car to be collected returned to me. They are maybe a little pricey, but I thought they were totally straight with me and they got the job done quickly and accurately. I asked lots of questions and they had patience with me. It was all done remotely and I never even met them!

Top work quality, and great customer service

Karen and the team at Clydeside Classic Cars are brilliant! My car was sadly stolen and recovered, so I got in touch with them to see if they could help out after getting some other repairs done previously. They fitted me in straight away, and got to work sourcing parts/assessing the damage. The work was carried out to a very high standard, and throughout the process I was kept updated. They were also very patient with me when trying to source cheaper parts, and in the end ended up helping source the needed parts themselves. Would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to get any work done on a classic car!

It was sad that someone stole your car and damaged it, thankfully it was a good solid car beforehand, so it made the repairs more straightforward to carry out, and we were very happy to see it looking great again. Thank you for choosing Clydesdale Classic Cars Ltd.

First time using Clydesdale Classic…

First time using Clydesdale Classic Cars for a major works cope on my 78 MGB Roadster. The car was with the garage for approximately 12 weeks including Xmas break and throughout each stage they were very welcoming to to me when I came in for progress updates. The team are very knowledgable and were not in any way pushy to have additional work undertaken. Where additional work was required I was invited in to discuss and where required agree.

My only observation was that my odometer that had 58,000 miles on it went away for refurb and when it came back it had been zeroed which should not have happened, but given that I do not intend on selling the car this is a minor issue for me.

Other than this I was happy with the service and Vladimir and his team have done a cracking job.

When we are dealing with corrosion repairs the scope of works does have a tendency to change, and we feel that it is important for us to make sure the customer is always kept up to date as it progresses.

We agree with you that the original mileage should have been put back onto your odometer, and we apologise for missing this. We would like to rectify this for you, so someone will be in touch to arrange it.

Thank you for choosing Clydesdale Classic Cars Ltd.

Huge increase in labour costs

I had used Clydesdale CC a few times before and cannot fault their physical work.
However, now in new premises (Aug ‘23), I checked in my MGB for new front suspension and anti-roll bar bushes. I agreed the price for the parts and assumed the cost of labour would be about the same- WRONG!
The labour costs had gone from £65 to £80 in less than a year. Also the labour time seemed excessive at 12h for the whole job. My MGB has a brand new interior, biscuit seats and carpets, so I put old grey mats inside to avoid extra dirt. The carpets, door cards and driver seat were all covered in oily overall and boot prints.
Don’t think I’ll be going back there!!!

Firstly, I would like to apologise to you that your interior was dirty, this should never happen. Normally we use seat covers and steering wheel covers to protect interiors, and it is totally unacceptable we left your interior like this. Should you want us to, I am happy to get this cleaned for you. Unfortunately, like a lot of businesses, we have had to make an increase to our hourly rate which we feel is more in line with the services. Regarding the time the repairs took - I do know that everything that needed removed from your car was very badly corroded and seized, but the guys should have explained this to you, so I will look into why this did not happen.

Very Poor Service ..

I had a lot of work carried out on my car by Clydesdale classics at huge expense only to have a major component which was part of the work carried out to fail within a very low mileage subsequently the car was taken back , and I was charged again at a ridiculous rate to repair the car , Clydesdale classics refused to accept any liability .. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CAR UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES !!!. they lie and take shortcuts

The repairs to your car were carried out in February 2020 and you brought it back to us in 2023 when a wheel bearing failed after you had taken a trip in it to France, surely you cannot expect us to replace a 3 year old wheel bearing free of charge. It is also unfortunate that you continued to drive the car until the wheel bearing completely collapsed, because this made the removal of the broken part much more difficult to remove.

Avoid

Purchased a Maserati and decided to have it undercoated against rust. Called for a quote and was informed job would be £350. Went to collect the car and was presented with a bill of £509.23. Was informed this is because it took more time than expected to get the undertrays off. Disputed he bill and it was reduced to the original quote. Driving the car notice a whistling noise from the drivers side window that wasnt there before. Driving along the motor way and the front undertray falls off of the car. Breakdown service icomes out and informs me a number of bolts are missing having fallen out and they cant reattache the undertray, which is now damaged. Call clydesdale about these issues to be told there was nothing wrong with their work as it passed their quaslity check. Put the car in to Maserati in Hamilton who say the drivers side window hadnt been put back in to the car properly and they needed to remount it and recalibrate it. The front undertray is damaged as a result of falling off as the bolts holding it on fell out. Maserati have said thre are multiple bolts missing or damaged from the undertrays. Ended up with a bill of just over £1,000 to fix issues the car never had before it went in to Clydesdale. Won't be using again

You were given an estimate not a quote for this work and we did inform you of this more than once. Out of goodwill we reduced your bill because we recognised that we neglected to contact you before taking the extra time required, this matter was settled with you at the time. We also informed you that your undertray needed repairs before you left our workshop, which you decided not to have completed. I would also appreciate if you could remove the section about your window, as you are well aware that we did not touch the window in any manner.

Appalling.

My final bill was nearly £2000 - almost THREE times the original estimate. I left the premises with the new rev counter and the temperature gauge not even working. I feel utterly ripped off and taken advantage of. I cannot trust them to correct these faults, indeed I don't want them anywhere near my car again. I got the impression that the aggressive boss saw my valuable classic car as an invitation to "quote low and charge high". An appalling ethos and an absolutely appalling experience.

DUBIOUS REMOVAL OF PREVIOUS BAD REVIEWS

There were loads of unhappy customer reviews that have somehow been removed, and now only two reviews for a company thats been on the go for years?
DO NOT USE THEM EXTORTIONATELY EXPENSIVE AND TAKE TWICE AS LONG TO DO A JOB AS ANY OTHER MECHANICS.

After £3000+ of repairs

After £3000+ of repairs, I collected my car only to find;
the timing was out
the full beam didn't work
the horn didn't sound
the newly greased steering would not return to centre

Would I use them again, no, I would not.
