The three step process in exchange migration
When one thinks about exchange migration, sharepoint migration or any migration for that matter they automatically cringe a little bit. And it is justly so. Don’t think that this reaction is opposite of progress for it is not. Server migration in general is a complicated process ad those who have been doing this since the early 1990s they will tell you so. It is a large process and is always extremely haphazard. Exchange migration is no different from the others. Large scale migration needs a lot of time and a lot of patience to handle.
As the IT sector has improved greatly in the last 20 years, the method of server migration has changed. Servers are much more important than they used to be and thus installing exchange migration is not really an option anymore. Migrations thus need to be handled carefully and must be successful. Any disruption is just not acceptable.
Now handling exchange migration is not easy and the tips that are about to be shred do no come in the guide books. These are based on real life experiences and frankly that is the best that one can get.
The exchange migration is a multi step process. These three steps are to be followed:
A plan: before the migration process actually take place try to go through the current network minutely. When you have an idea of what you had before it will make the task for you much easier. Once you have a plan things just fall into place.
Make a prototype: this is highly recommended. Unless your lab can perfectly mimic your production you must create a prototype.
Administrative training: use the lab for training purpose. Every exchange server is different and thus training the individuals is key to its functioning.
