I have been a big fan of cods scallops and normally have a great experience. But today my chips and mushy peas were great but the expensive battered haddock was horrible. The batter was not crisp and the fish tasted like it has been cooked half an hour or so before.

Disappointing sums it up!

I was very disappointed with my recent visit. I had family visiting from Blackpool, the land of fish and chips, they visit Nottingham frequently and they normally take me out for a meal. This time I suggested we went somewhere different, I gave them three options and Cod Scallops was chosen. I was so humiliated by our experience. We were shown to a table, the waitress was lovely we ordered our food one of our party ordered the cheese and onion pie, I ordered cod and chips and the final order was a steak and ale pie. After about 15/20 minutes after ordering we were advised there was no cheese and onion pie so something else was ordered. I thought why did it take so long to advise about the order. During the meal we observed a member of touching food after handling money without washing his hands the same person was also observed picking his nose , tucking his hands behind his apron obviously placing them on garments of clothing, touching food then touching other types of food and equipment and then no washing of his hands and touching other types of food and using the till. Basically no attention to food hygiene was being recognised. One of our party is a paramedic and he did have a word with the manager, who was extremely disturbed by our observation. As we pointed out had it have been a mystery shop by the health and hygiene department, it could have been quite serious for the reputation of your company. He was very apologetic and seemed genuinely disturbed by what we had told him.
I was genuinely embarrassed after singing the praises of all your establishments to be so disappointed by this experience. With regards to atmosphere some back ground music wouldn’t go amiss.

I went to the Carrington shop Nottingham

I went to the Carrington shop today and I won’t be returning! Such a shame, as this used to absolutely brilliant. I can’t believe how much it has gone down hill! It is now massively over priced for what you get. The fish are tiny, like a mini fish portion. I spent £50 and it was not worth it at all. The pots of peas have shrunk and were like water. Everything was cold. The lad on the till couldn’t be arsed and came across very rude, he could certainly do with some training in customer service. The place used to be packed, now virtually empty. It’s very sad 😔

Gone downhill

Gone downhill. We have had many meals including eating in the restaurant and takeaway. Always had a good experience in the restaurant. Recent takeaway from Carrington was very poor in terms of quality. The fish portions were much smaller. But the quality was awful. The cod was very dry and seemed like it wasn't fresh. The chips were hard and also not fresh. Really small pots of peas. All in all not enjoyable. Poor quality and therefore poor value for money. And this is consistent with a previous takeaway. No more chances!

Disappointing …

We have enjoyed food from the Sherwood branch for many years and it has been excellent.
However on this occasion the battered haddock that we both ordered was dry, hard and tasted stale . It was a takeaway order so we didn’t bother to take it back so sadly it ended up in the bin and we just ate the chips. Very annoyed that we wasted our money . I did email the branch but no reply. Will not be returning as judging by other reviews the standards are not as good as they used to be

The cod’s and scallop Mansfield road…

The cod’s and scallop Mansfield road Nottingham deleted my comment so I will post on here instead…

The guy who serves you is an idiot with zero customer service… I ordered curry sauce and they packed gravy.. I came back because the fish tasted like it had been in the warmer for god knows how long.. the chips were warmer then the fish that says it all.. once they even gave me raw fish.. they offer Monday £5 fish and chips but cannot even cook a fish properly, it’s defeats the purpose of being a fish and chips shop! You’re offering this offer to attract customers because you are not making enough money, but atleast get the order right and cook the food accordingly for human consumption. I never even received an apology so took a refund and my business elsewhere! Good riddance!

The reviews on trust pilot 2.5 says it all, where they delete comments on there website to make there business look good..

Cold Food and poor quality…

We have been going for a nearly five years sometimes with the grandchildren. On the last two visits the chips tasted heated up and the fish not cooked fresh and beans cold.
No apology on either occasion.
The first time we discretely mentioned it but still the same. The children's is not included with the children's menu and they do not like the ice cream. We will not back as their standards have dropped.

The Cods Scallops Long Eaton

Was recommended to the Cods Scallops in Long Eaton some time ago by a friend and have been using the outlet quite often as a Takeaway, always very pleased with the quality of food at a reasonable price. That is until last Friday!! I decided to try the Cornish Plaice, baked with the additi0on of the "potted shrimp, lemon and butter at an extra cost of £2.50 - WHAT A DISSAPPOINTMENT!!
The "shrimps were minute and only 4 of them (less than the size of half a pea each!!) a few herb leaves, and I mean a few. To make things even worse I ordered and paid for a Garlic mayo sauce but they forgot to put that with my order!!
NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL!!

Harborne Cod's Scallops...stay away if you are vegetarian or don't eat pork!!!!

I went to the Harborne shop looking forward to a traditional fish and chips only to be told that they fry their fish in the same oil as all their meat products. This information does not appear anywhere on their menu and is a real problem for vegetarians and those who don't consume pork. I'm sure most customers don't even know this as my friend who is a vegetarian and I have been going there for at least a year and never a word has been said about how they fry their fish until now. Greatly disappointing and won't be going back as I think they are dishonest to their customers.

For £30 I received 1 pot of small mushy peas 1 large chips and Childs meal it's a joke. I called to complain but the asisstant didn't give a toss asking would I like a refund for the mushy peas? Wow I won't be using them again there over priced n tasteless definitely need to work on there customer service.

Have been to the restaurant on…

Have been to the restaurant on Mansfield rd many times and had excellent food. Today not so good. Fish (haddock) had quite thick batter and was over cooked, the sole batter was also thick and dry. It was a takeaway so didn't find out until I got home otherwise would have raised it with the chef. Disappointed as their fish is normally fantastic.

A real treat!!

Outstanding food in an unpretentious restaurant that also does takeaway. Unusually, for a fish and chip specialist, it is possible to have an excellent vegetarian meal. Excellent cheerful and helpful staff and a good range of wines by the glass too. Reasonably priced. A real treat to visit.
