Please avoid comdirect bank!

Please dont use this bank!
i am struggling since 3 months to quit my bank account and get my money.
You are 30 minutes in the holding pattern to get an answer that you need to reactivate your TAN to get access and can transfer it by yourself,...but that was wrong.
And then with the next telephon call, because the TAN wasnt working,..they tell you they cant give you an answer via phone, so you write an email to reklamation where they dont give you a proper status update and make jokes on the phone when you wrote the 3rd email to them (one week before), that you just wrote them a week before. But it doesnt matter, that is was the 3 reminder!
Absolutely not to recommend!!!
If you can avoid it please do it. I am still struggling to get my money! And i am not talking about peanuts. It is really annoying. Very unprofessional and nobody can help you, you not even can go to a partner bank to sort this things out.

Disgusting and unprincipled. They will reject people who are securely employed with savings and a great credit score because of a non-EU passport. What a shame.

How the Great fall into the Abyss

I received a letter (great for an online bank to still rely on letters) to my overseas address that my account of over 30 years will be closed on 16/11/2023. The letter arrived 2 weeks late and the account is closed. Get told that just as customers don't have to give a reason, they don't have to either.
I was asked to submit my complaint via email/then online/then fill out form.
While the initial response was quick, I have had no response to my email in over two weeks. My telephone enquiry resulted in some arrogant person telling me that they are busy and I must wait. Alternatively, I can send them an account number for the transfer and I will get my money immediately (don't seem too busy for that). Let's see how that experience plays out, once I manage to get another account. In the meantime, I am not able to access my funds.
Arrogant, scary, horrific and disgusting service from an institution that claims to be Germany's No 1 online bank.

Account cancelled after 13 years

Quite a shocker to simply decide to cancel my account whilst still abroad. Moving over all the capital, including long standing depot stocks, is almost a harassment.
Bank officials at comdirect remorseless. A true tragedy for customers who have to face such uncertainty at short notice.
… maybe a sign of things to come, not communicated yet from the bank.

It’s taking the bank over 4 weeks to…

It’s taking the bank over 4 weeks to open my account.
I submitted my documents 4 weeks ago. Nothing happened. I called support once. They told me to wait. I called support for the second time. They told me there’s a technical issue and they logged a ticket and I should wait. I called support for the third time. They told me they don’t see the ticket but if I was told that the ticket was filed - it was filed and I should wait. I called for the fourth time. They told me to wait. I called for the fifth time. They told me it can take a day or a week - they don’t know.
It’s been 4 week.
The bank that can’t open an account in 4 weeks is clearly a joke.

Worst banking experience! Never again.

Service declined since taken over by Commerzbank. I left Commerzbank to join Comdirect as the service at Commerzbank and the costs were ridiculous. Now I will face the same situation again. I am not longer staying at Comdirect. This is the worst bank I have ever encountered. Old fashioned, poor services, expensive and a lot of hidden and ridiculous costs!! Never again.

The Downfall of Comdirect - From Great to Bad

In line with all the other negative reviews here, I have made similar experiences in recent months and years. After the acquisition/integration of Comdirect through Commerzbank in 2020, Comdirect has lost its edge (e.g. customer centricity, agility, etc.) and became another corporate bank adopting Commerzbank’s ancient processes and management style. Their guiding principle is not anymore how to grow, innovate and become more user friendly but how to maximize the profit per customer while avoiding any “risk” and effort. It’s a shame this once great online/direct bank turned into another ancient German bank ruled by fax machines and bureaucrats

Horrible & Incompetent Service - You should open a depot somewhere else.

How incompetent can a bank be?

At the time of writing it has been 5 months (since 06.06) since we tried to open a Junior Depot with Comdirect. Uncountable emails and calls later, the depot still hasn't been opened, not did we get feedback on the latest status, and of course no estimate when it will finally be done.

My advise is clear stay away from this bank if you want to open a Junior Depot. You should choose a competitor to save time and nerves.

Here is a timeline of this ridiculous process.

06.06.2023
Online application to open a junior depot submitted.
As a result we received the contract documents 5x times, don't ask me why

07.06
We proofed our identity as parents via Postident

09.06
We got a reminder that the Postident identification is still missing. But we performed the identification just 2 days earlier??

13.06
Email that we also need to submit the birth certificate, which we did the same day.
We also got a reminder that the Postident is still missing, which confused us since we did it already the week before

16.06
We got an Email that identities of the parents have been mixed up during the Postident process and it needs to be repeated.
We call customer service and they confirmed that had been a processing error from the PostIdent provider and we need to repeat the process

17.06
We performed the PostIdent process again.

22.06
We sent an email to request information if it worked this time, but never got an answer

30.06
We got an email that additional information are needed and we need to provide a copy of the passport of the account holder

-- Multiple calls to the customer service, but we always just got the reply the application is being processed, no further details about the status have been provided --

30.08
We got another email that passport information need to be resent since the account holders passport will expire soon and the new passport is needed.
31.08
We submitted the new passport details

-- Multiple calls to the customer service, but we always just got the reply the application is being processed, no further details about the status have been provided --

20.09
We receive an email that the Postident failed again "since the identities have not been attached"

21.09
We called customer hotline, they only told us the the PostIdent process did not work again, so we asked, if we can change the identification process, but since the process was started with PostIdent we can't change to a different method now

22.09
So we do PostIdent again ... :-/

-- 10++ calls to the customer service, to inquire if the identification now worked, but we always just got the reply the application is being processed, no further details about the status have been provided, and that the department processing the application will call us back. Guess what we never received a call --

10.10
We get an Email again that one of the PostIdent process has to be conducted again :-/
11.10
So here we go again

-- 10++ calls to the customer service, to inquire what went wrong before, if it worked this time, we only get the standard reply, that the department processing the application will call us back. Guess what we never received a call --

28.10
We call customer service again, he can't give us an update, so we insist to escalate the and demand a call back to get a status by 31.10.

We still haven't gotten a call back.... And today is the 03.11.

A couple of disclaimers:
We understand that some of the issue described here might have to be attributed to the PostIdent provider. Still it is absolute puzzling how this process can go wrong 3x times (so far). It is also puzzling if this process is clearly not working we are unable to switch the process to a less error prone method.

Next - and here, we see the full responsibility with the bank:

The continous lack of timely update on the status of the application, or - more precisely - any update over the span of weeks, while simultaneously calling customer support multiple times, is just utterly shocking. Either they don't care about their customers or just operate in an unbelievable unprofessional manner. Both possibilities utterly shocking.

Also shocking is that the customer support agent on the phones seem to not be able in any way to help us or support us in trouble shooting. They deflected every time to the "department processing the query" for any request for an update. Well referring to someone else and then never hearing back from this someone else ... thanks for nothing!

So our clear recommendation to you is stay away from this bank if you want to open a Junior Depot since their process and customer care are abysmal!

With a pace and process like this your Junior Account Holder is going to retire before you get the account opened.

Shame on you Comdirect :-/

Worst bank

Let's start with the customer service. There's basically no physical location where you can go if something goes wrong. No one responds to calls or emails, and there's no live chat. Despide that I was customer for several years until the bank closed my account without any explanation. I don't recommend using this bank!

Worst bank in Germany

It’s really one of the worst banks you can possibly choose in Germany. Just like many others my account got canceled with no explanation or reason mentioned. Additionally they froze my money after I transferred some money from my bank account overseas, again, with no reason or explanation. Called them several times just to be assured that there’s nothing I can do, but one letter from the lawyer later everything was fine…
Once they send a notice that the account will be canceled according to their contracts, a lot of paperwork was necessary. Living outside of Germany - what they knew o.c. - it’s ridiculous as the cost are imposed on the customer. Should you not submit those papers things like stocks you own aren’t transferred and they charge a fee - yet to be determined tho.

There are great alternatives and there’s literally nothing good about this bank since they got bought. Plus you run at risk to get canceled for no reason

Giving one star is just too much.

Giving one star is just too much.
I have been 9 years at this bank and upgraded to a new smartphone and changed home address.
As I wanted to login, it asked me to secure my login over the photo-TAN app, which makes sense.
But photo-TAN wouldn't let me in from my new smartphone as it is not recognized, fair enough...
So I needed a Aktivierungscode sent by letter. To request this letter, I need to login onto my account, which is no longer possible since the photo-TAN is not accessible.
After a research, I discovered that this Aktivierungscode letter can be requested by sending a PDF form per... FAX (we are in 2023 !).
I managed to send a fax over a online fax service since this kind of device disappeared from my office 20 years ago and now am trying to get hold per phone with the customer service to know if they have received it... after half an jour with a horrible waiting music, I had a nice customer service representative, who wanted to help but unfortunaltely had no access to the service that is dealing with faxes and needs days to proceed them. The customer service representative could not confirm, if my fax was there. So he proposed to me to wait until next week to call (and wait again), to find out if my address got updated in the system and if the letter with the Aktivierungscode could be sent.
So at the moment, I do not have any access to my account...
I sincerely can't wait to recover access to my account and send the whole to Revolut!
Revolut carried out my smartphone upgrade in less than one minute, no call, no fax, no paperwork to download, simply intelligent technology.
All transactions are there so easy to carry out, their technology is lightyears ahead from Comdirect...
Sooo disappointed really by Comdirect

Comdirect bad overall. There is no good bank in Germany

There is no good bank in Germany. App is like 2010. You cannot even get a transfer statement or a transfer slip for download. Transaction speed is like a turtle, especially to foreign countries. IF you receive foreign money they will always annoy you with letters. No fast support. If you call you wait for minimum 20min which is really bad for travelling. Mails take days. No WhatsApp or chat option with support Agents solving your problems. High transaction costs. Better choose other banks like revolut, wise, payoneer and have com direct as back up for an accident troubles.

Frustration all the time!

I have Comdirect account for years and I am super disappointed. Those incompetents blocked my account not once, but twice, without a freaking hint of explanation. And don't even get me started on their pathetic excuse for customer support! Every time I try to call them to sort out this mess, the line is jammed for eternity, and I have to endure this endless waiting game while my account remains frozen, and I'm completely helpless! It's super frustrating! I´m about to close it and move to another bank...

No help with anything.

The worst customer success I have ever experienced. I have asked for help to close my account for over a year, still without success. They should also help me to sell my stocks, also without success. BUT they could manage to sell part of my stocks to get the money that my account costs without any problems?.... Do not recommend!
