I purchased my VW Tiguan RLine from Corkills of Wigan.
My experience from the moment i walked into the showroom was first class from start to finish.
I can honestly say that every member of staff were courteous, well mannered and professional on every level.
None more so than Darren who had every aspect covered from start to finish and nothing was to much trouble.
His after service communication was also excellent, by contacting me after my purchase to ensure everything was as it should be.
I would honestly go knowhere else, and would highly recommend Corkills Wigan when purchasing your next car.

Underwhelmed

I visited Corkills VW Wigan in November after asking for a detailed interior‑focused video. The video was low quality, didn’t show close‑ups, and I was told the interior was “fantastic.” In person. It was well below expectations.

They agreed to put things right as i had travelled 3hrs by train to view the car, but it took two weeks of chasing and the communication was patchy (some helpful input from the Sales Manager, but overall not positive).

I then had to return the vehicle to get a mis‑aligned door sorted (missed as part of the check). On collection there were fresh scratches/scuffs across two panels, and I was advised to try T‑Cut and buff myself—not acceptable for a main dealer who were responsible for the scratches in the first place. The driving mode button fault on the test drive turned out to be a loose connection, which should have been caught before sale. Despite four requests, I still haven’t received the multi‑point check output. I found loose interior panels under the footwells and sides, and my requests to inspect brakes/callipers for sticking were ignored at the time of getting the door fixed
As it’s a 5‑hour round trip for me, I tried to get support locally, but was told by Corkills that so they wanted the car back with them as “VW dealers make it difficult for each other,” which doesn’t inspire confidence for the remaining 11 months warranty. I am left with A/C issues, battery issues as well as the AdBlue top up appearing after 3 weeks.

Summary: I wouldn’t purchase from Corkills again. Pre‑sale checks felt under par, communication and aftercare were poor, and I didn’t feel the team took ownership of the problems. A more thorough pre‑delivery inspection, timely documentation, and proactive fixes would have made a big difference.

The whole experience has left me deflated and i really got the impression they were not invested in customer care.

The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. After service was very good asking how things were going with the car and if I had any questions just drop in to the garage A*

Totally incompetent

Totally incompetent, the manager Chris, Ruth and Adam were absolutely terrible. Leaving from Newcastle the car needed mot and service and new brake shoes. Asking me to service and mot my car while they had done nothing on their end before I traded it in I sat in my car for over 5hrs
I have cancer as well as my Daughter
I had 50 miles to drive and I called them they said the car is not ready and told me to turn a around and come back another day
This company is a disgrace I would advise not to purchase a vehicle from these people the customer service is 0% !!

My advice? Do NOT use this franchise. Dreadful.

Today my son and I took his car in for a service (which appears to have been completed without fuss). The mechanic advised that the 12v battery needed replacing and we were presented with an estimate of >£350 to do this work.

On investigation I noted that there is a known problem with iD3/4’s with the 12v battery not charging properly and having issues, also that VW did a swap out to resolve this. I asked whether they would honour that or at least offer some level of goodwill and perhaps discount the work in some way. When I asked this the lady helping us she went to speak with a man called John who then came over to my son and I and was astoundingly obnoxious and rude.

We have both never experienced anything like this before to be honest and are both professional people who were simply putting forward what we felt was a reasonable position. John gave me the impression that he wanted a physical fight, told me I was being condescending and then scuttled off. We found him to be a very odd person who seems to either be in a role unsuited to his unique skills and characteristics or he was in preparation for some cage fighting at the weekend.

The upshot and outcome of the experience is that we will never use that franchise again and we will not buy any VW Group products in the future as we do not really enjoy aggressive interactions when there is a problem with the purchased product.

I appreciate this may seem a little far fetched but John’s timing is unfortunate as I had just ordered a new electric car from another VW Group dealership. I was so shocked by this terrible service from Corkills that before writing this review I have just emailed to cancel the order and get my deposit refunded. I will not do business with organisations who are unreasonable and who employ thugs.

My advice would be to avoid this dealership like the plague. Go somewhere else and don’t risk horrible service and aggressive interactions should you happen to have a problem at any point.

Nearly Faultless !!

I've been buying cars for myself and family for over four decades. We've used authorised dealers for BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Landrover, Fiat, Nissan and others and I would say the buying experience from all of them was no better than 5/10. Seeing a VW car on Autotrader that interested us we travelled 30 miles on spec to Corkills in Wigan expecting more of the same.

We arrived and immediately saw the car that interested us on the forecourt. We looked at the car and we were soon approached by presumably a salesman and we were expecting the usual patter. But we didn't get it. What we received was someone who was genuinely interested in our needs, in us, someone who knew the product, the history of the car and was personable and friendly. I was surprised because people like that don't seem to exist so much these days. Any information we needed was instantly available. After a test drive we bought the car and arranged to collect later in the week.

The car was right for us but there were a few cars of the same model we could have bought from other dealers. So why this one... one reason only. People by from people and we bought this car because of this salesman. His knowledge, the way he formed a relationship with us in the time we were there. It's a rare skill but he gave the impression that he wanted us to buy the right car for us not prioritise another sale for him. I think that was genuine. !!

So am I going to embarass the salesman here? Yes I am.!! But a salesman is not the right title for him... he is an advisor, a consultant someone who has your interests at heart. Someone who realises that selling you the wrong car may look good for the figures but is not a good long term strategy. Someone who understands that you make a sale to gain a customer which is far more important than making the sale itself.

Will we be back to Wigan to service the car passing to much closer VW dealers.?... probably. !! Why... because of this salesman.

So who is it - "Darren Woods". I hope this won't embarass you Darren but credit where it is due. People are very quick to criticise poor service and write bad reviews in this day and age so when you receive excellent service it should be called out.

So I rate our buying experience from Corkills in Wigan at 9.5/10 deducting half a point for having no decaf coffee.!!!

Everyone we spoke to at Corkills was friendly, efficient and helpful and to you all I say "Thank you".

Poor After Sales

I purchased a used car from Corkills in December. Within a couple of weeks I had warning lights flashing up and carplay stopped working properly. I wasn't able to get it booked into my local VW garage to be checked until the end of January. When they looked at it, they were able to sort the flashing lights under warranty but said the carplay was due to the software being out of date. They advised I contact Corkills to request that they cover the cost of upgrading it to the most recent spec. Corkills refused this and I am left with an additional £400 to pay for usable software. Very disappointed in the response and I would expect a car I buy from a VW dealer to be in good working condition, not causing me problems a few weeks after purchase. Would not recommend at all.

I was “chatting” to a sales lady on…Very Rude

I was “chatting” to a sales lady on line and I explained what car I was looking for and because I was from NI I didn’t mind which branch I would have to travel to. She told me that they were in the UK and I would have to source the car from my country. I tried to reply and explain that NI is part of the UK. She stopped the “chat” - very rude

My husband put a deposit on a second…

My husband put a deposit on a second hand car after the salesman told him the badge, which was broken, would be replaced. When we went to the garage to pay for the vehicle, (we had been dropped off there on a journey that took 40 minutes) the garage said they had overspent on the budget for the car and wanted us to source the badge ourselves off the internet and when we weren't happy, assured us they would reimburse us, said it wouldn't cost much, about £25 and they would fit it. We trusted them and paid for the car but found the badge had to allow a sensor through it and couldnt find one. When we discussed it with the salesman he said they had had difficulty too but would find one. They had to take the car in for other work and we asked were they going to replace the badge at the same time as agreed when paying for it. The salesman Joe, said, as its a second hand car and its not part of the Mot we dont have to. When we said, "What!" He said, dont worry, we will, I will find one when I'm back in. Their parts department told us it was £229.80 and could be there the next day. It was very difficult to get the receptionist to give me the email address for the Sales Manager, Ian Farnworth. I had to ask for it 3 times. After we sent an email and registered letter, the Manager rang but tried to say the Salesman hadnt said the badge would be replaced. Our Son was there and has verified they were told it would be replaced. We asked if that was the case then why would his salesman have asked us to find a badge from the internet and they would reimburse us??? The Manager said they would find one but it could take weeks. Our emails and letter have not been answered.
Beware of the honesty of this garage. It wouldnt have cost them £229.80 to order the badge. Why would they spoil good customer relations for this? The car cost £18,000. Make sure when you buy a used vehicle that anything promised is written down so you have proof. Do not trust them and if there is still work to be done then do not pay them until the work is complete. The other VW garages we spoke to said they would not have acted this way.
