Costco Employee Complaint

Subject: Formal Complaint – Incident at Costco Huntsville, AL 9/9/25 1845hrs CDT

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to formally document a very troubling experience during my visit to the Huntsville, AL Costco on [insert date]. I have been a loyal Costco member for 24 years, and this incident was by far the most upsetting interaction I have had at your store.

As I approached the exit, I was stopped by an employee later identified as Brittney. While I fully understand and respect Costco’s policy of verifying receipts, her demeanor and handling of the situation were unacceptable. In an abrupt and firm manner, she stated that I “must” wait for her to clear me before I could exit. When I asked to speak with a manager, she dismissively told me to “go find one” myself, and when I confirmed her response, she repeated it—making it clear she had no intention of contacting management.

I then walked back to the registers and requested a manager directly. Another employee immediately relayed my request, and within a minute, Heath, who identified himself as a manager, came to speak with me. Heath listened carefully, acknowledged my concerns, and stated he would review video (and possibly audio) of the incident and address the matter internally. While I appreciated his professionalism, I left unconvinced that the seriousness of Brittney’s conduct would be addressed appropriately.

Unfortunately, upon exiting the store a second time, I encountered Brittney again. After checking my cart and receipt, she sarcastically asked how I was doing. When I responded, “Not great at all,” she smirked and replied, “Well, that’s good!”—further escalating the situation and showing blatant disregard for professionalism or customer respect.

This behavior is unacceptable for any employee, let alone one stationed at a highly visible customer interaction point. It reflects poorly on Costco and left me feeling disrespected and frustrated as a long-standing member.

I am requesting the following:

A formal review of this incident, including video/audio where applicable.

Confirmation that the matter has been addressed with the employee involved.

Assurance that steps are being taken to ensure other members do not experience similar treatment.

I expect a written response within 7 business days. Please understand that if this matter is not addressed properly, I will have no choice but to escalate my complaint to Costco’s corporate offices and other appropriate channels.

Sincerely,

Robert Shewmake

Absolutely 100% Fake

Ordered a Jetboil at a bargain price but had no confirmation email, no order number and discovered that my email doesn’t exist on the Costco website.

The link to the site where I ordered it has been taken down too and I’ve since noticed that this offer is actually back up but under a different name.

Keep away at all costs.

Costco is our go to for hosting parties…

Costco is our go to for hosting parties and regular grocery shopping. We love the value and the experience of walking around and discovering new things. The produce is always usable for weeks- much better than the grocery store. We love the company too and own their stock.

If I could give zero stars I certainly…

If I could give zero stars I certainly would!
The Ninja coffee machine was reduced in price in the shop but they had no stock, so ordered and paid for it online. Due to the size, we asked for it to be delivered to my partners place of work. Then got an email saying delivery had been attempted but no-one in and left a card. There WAS someone in and NO card was left. Was since discovered by COSTCO that this was delivered to the wrong address! Second attempt the following day and was delivered to my partners place of work. After unpacking the machine at home, there was NO coffee machine in the box but 3 large packs of bbq charcoal, which, incidentally weighed the same as the coffee machine.

Costco were contacted many times and photos sent and after much communication they agreed to ship a further coffee machine or we could have a refund. Because of the good price, we decided we would still like the coffee machine. So we waited and 10 days later were told by Costco that the replacement had been rejected as the team believe that it was delivered correctly and not tampered with due to similarities in photos taken at the depot before shipping and after delivery!

How can this be? The photos before delivery would have been a coffee machine and after delivery were 3 bags of charcoal! It's bad enough to lose all the money we have paid but to be called LIARS too is just unbelievable and extremely upsetting.

It's of little consequence to Costco as they won't give a damn, but we will never spend/lose money with Costco again!

Costco has AT&T as one of their vendors and the vendor is telling you different pricing to get you to switch and Costco does not help you out at all with it. They tell you to deal with AT&T even though they sold you this product in their store.

Fewer open registers than Walmart

I'll be brief. I bought a membership last week and cancelled it today. My reasons are as follows:
1. LONG lines at the checkout. Only 2-3 registers open at a time, and each one had 15-20 people waiting. I can get this kind of treatment at Walmart without the membership fee. The store is woefully understaffed. I want to get in, grab what I need, and get out. That's not an option at Costco.
2. Their selection is very limited. Often, only offers a single option for things like pet food. Raise your hand if you feed your fur baby store-brand or generic food. And beer. My corner convenience store has more options.
3. Their prices are often more expensive per unit than what you can get at a regular grocery store. Couple that with having to buy in bulk, and it's a double whammy.

Consistently Positive Experience

It seems most of us -including me - come to Trust Pilot to complain of a bad customer experience So, it got me thinking - why not share positive experiences - and the first business I thought of on the positive side was Costco. I've been shopping for at least 20 years and I cannot recall a bad experience. To the contrary, whether online or in-store, the products are consistently high quality and in-store customer service is always top notch. Thank you Costco, for setting a high bar and consistently reaching it!

Only great experiences!

I have only had great experiences with Costco.com including returns and ordering flowers. I assume the volume of negative reviews is a result of satisfied customers not caring to take the time to rate 5 stars, but angry customers will find a way to blast the organization on every platform

I have been a Costco member for years

I have been a Costco member for years, not only a member but a loyal member, however, my recent experience left me in a shock and deeply disappointed. I was treated based on my color and I know I am not the only one that had experience such treated over the years.
Being a Costco member, spending $800 to $1000 every month, I wrote to the CEO of Costco to complain about how I was treated at the Manassas store on Saturday 8/2/2025. I felt disgraced and not wanted as a customer.
This is what happened, I drove about 40 minutes to the Costco in Manassas, VA and was there around 9:30am. Upon entering the store and scanning my card, I was refused entry to the store. I was asked to either upgrade my card to the black card or would not be allowed to enter the store until 10am. I told them I never knew about this new law and never notified about this. No answer was given to me.
A few minutes later, I saw a white guy with the same card as mine allowed into the store. When I questioned that, I was lied to, telling me that he has upgraded already. If he had upgraded, why was he still holding the same card as mine?
The manager was called, and she has no customer service ethics, instead, she repeated the same thing the other guy had said. I am so disappointed and felt discrimination.
So, I wrote an email to the CEO of Costco and I an email from someone by name of Jill Jordan who claimed to be the general manager. The email claimed I was called but no voicemail left and no missed call. So, I replied to the manager and said that I did not see a missed call from him/her. And that was it.

The question lies, why do we really shop at Costco, a company that we pay to shop in their stores and yet don't really want us there. Are their goods better than other stores like Walmart, Sam's Club, BJs etc, no, never and Costco is not cheaper than the other stores either.
I gave the general manager time to see if he/she was going to call me or email me back, but never. of course, I am not as important as other customers, why would they contact me anyway.
Costco pride itself on treating members fairly, but experience contradicted that image. I think I deserved to be treated with dignity and respect.

Costco Same Day order through Instacart…No Customer Service

Costco Same Day order through Instacart two years ago—a public company and no Customer Service!

Instacart two years a Public Company
Current Market Capitalization: As of August 8, 2025, Instacart's market capitalization is estimated to be between $12.87 billion and $13.54 billion, depending on the source.

Can you believe it offers no consumer support at all?
In 2024, when Costco opened in San Juan Capistrano under the name Price Club, my wife and I became Executive Members. They have Costco's direct support, but it can only be used for the stores' internal solutions. Now that Costco issued a new Executive Member Card to me because mine got lost, there is no way to enter the new membership number at Instacart, and we cannot have home delivery for an order held for more than three days in the queue.

This is a real abuse that a Publicly Traded Company just serves and kisses up to their big contractors and to hell with the consumer. It's time for us consumers to voice our concerns loudly about publicly traded companies' disregard for us!
