I will never use Costco travel again. We had a flight delay that caused us to miss a tour and two nights at one of our hotels. Although I had even purchased the very expensive Zurich travel insurance,... See more

Our 2 week trip to Greece went great
Our 2 week trip to Greece went without a hitch. We visited Athens and two islands. Our transfers were prompt and on time. Our in country contacts were prompt with reply’s. The good news is we did not need to contact them for anything vital. A testimony to how well things went. Our rates were unbeatable. Excellent hotel recommendations and options. Would recommend their travel service.
I had a very disappointing experience…
I had a very disappointing experience with Avis at IAH Airport despite booking through Costco Travel.
I reserved an Intermediate SUV through Costco Travel, but when I arrived at the Avis counter around 3 AM during heavy rain, I was told there were no vehicles available in my reserved category. The only options provided were a 12-seat passenger van or a Mercedes GLE 450 with an additional charge of approximately $60 per day.
At that time, I had no practical choice but to take the Mercedes due to the weather and lack of available vehicles. The Avis representative clearly stated that they could not guarantee Costco reservations because of inventory shortages.
The next day, I contacted Avis Customer Service and explained the situation. A representative created case number 81584097 and advised me to keep the vehicle since there was still no available inventory. I was also informed that the additional charges would be refunded because the upgrade was not voluntary.
However, after returning the vehicle, Avis refused to refund the extra $230 that was charged for the premium vehicle.
This experience was extremely frustrating. Customers should not be forced into paid upgrades due to inventory management issues, especially when the reservation was confirmed in advance through Costco Travel. I hope Avis reviews this case fairly and honors the commitment made by customer service.
I will NEVER use Costco Travel again
I will NEVER use Costco Travel again. HORRIBLE to deal with. And if you book a trip with Costco and cancel your trip for what ever reason ...WATCH OUT, if any part of your cancelled trip goes to a "credit" ..they will apply an ABUNDANT of additional service fees and charges when you decide to use that credit. They were a NIGHTMARE to deal with. I will never use them again, and I actually hope that anyone who works for Costco Travel ROTS where the devil lays.
2 hour wait pressured to spend more will ,insinuated I was wrong not accepting their insurance even though I already have insurance.
2 hour wait , I was renting a car nor buying a time share. Very agressive.,was not a pleasant experience. said they would match price if I refiiled with them and charged us for a full tank, no compensation for gas left in tank when returned. Rented a SUV gave us a van with no compensation and was told we could wait for SUV but none available at all. I would review at 0
I rarely write negative reviews
I rarely write negative reviews, but this experience truly deserves one.
I booked a guided tour through Costco Travel with Insight Vacations, trusting both brands for customer care and professionalism. Unfortunately, I had to cancel due to a serious medical emergency: my husband was hospitalized with a sudden cardiac condition and a significant decline in heart function.
To be clear, I am not evaluating the quality of the tour itself, because I never had the chance to experience it. This review is about how Insight Vacations and Costco Travel handled a serious customer emergency.
When someone is facing a frightening situation involving the health of a close family member, you expect at least some compassion, understanding, and support. Instead, Insight Vacations enforced a strict 50% cancellation penalty, even though I cancelled more than 6 weeks before departure. They did not offer a future travel credit, a goodwill adjustment, or any meaningful accommodation — and they did not even ask me to provide medical documentation confirming my husband’s hospitalization.
A simple and reasonable solution would have been to offer a future travel credit for the full amount, valid for a year. That would have been a fair win-win solution: the company would keep the business, and the customer would not be financially punished for a medical emergency completely beyond their control.
Instead, the response felt rigid, policy-driven, formal, repetitive, and ultimately dismissive. Even after escalation, I was told the decision was final and non-negotiable.
This was my first experience with Insight Vacations — and it will absolutely be my last. I will not book with Insight Vacations again and will think twice before using Costco Travel for guided tours in the future.
I expected companies of this level to show more compassion and flexibility in an exceptional medical emergency. Instead, this experience left me feeling that their policies are designed primarily to protect their own financial interests, with little regard for the customer’s circumstances.
deeply disappointed customer
Costco travel left us high & dry
We had a terrible experience with Costco travel. They booked us into a villa in Orlando at Margaritaville. The unit’s air conditioning was not functional when we arrived. We did not get any significant response until day four. Costco travel did not intervene or go to bat for us in expediting moving us to a different unit and they certainly did nothing to represent us in attempting to retrieve some of our money paid for a unit without air-conditioning. The entire experience at Margaritaville was very different than the website experience promoted. The place was significantly less than what was advertised, and I would never recommend it to anyone. I’m very disappointed that Costco travel did not go to bat for us when their vendor did not live up to its promised service and I will not be using Costco travel for any of our future travel needs, including our anticipated European vacation this coming fall I am searching for a new travel vendor
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SUPPORT
The hotel I booked through Costco Travel online for my business trip to Honolulu, HI had NO WIFI for the first several days. Plus, the food at the hotel was awful, where they put rotting avocado in a $25 salad. NEVER AGAIN WILL I DO BUSINESS WITH COSTCO TRAVEL. When I called for money back, they refunded me a tiny amount. This was AFTER Aaron Lopez, their rep, called me "AGGRESSIVE." Don't do business with them. They don't even price match when other hotels offer cheaper rates--which is oftentimes the case.
Vacation in Crown Paradise, Cancun
We booked our vacation in Crown Paradise Cancun.
Let me share our horrible experience of staying in this resort and rate the hotel grading from best to worst for the benefit of future tourists.
Reception is poorly staffed ! It is quite annoying to stand in line hours just to ask a question.
Also, expect long delays to answer your phone calls.
Entertainment was only fair, but same groups perform wearing different costumes in post dinner shows.
Hotel boasts of many speciality restaurants but many of them were closed and even those open were not available as they got booked quickly. Even those foods served in those restaurants were of pretty ordinary quality and very limited options to offer.
A hotel wanting to cater to international visitors must serve variety of international foods and give considerations to their food preferences such as vegans, vegetarians, non-gluten. But, thus hotel served one of worst foods ever that we experienced so far. Let me give you few examples to explain the reason for poor rating.
The buffet was horrible to say the least ! The cooks probably lack exposure and training in international cuisines. It appeared as if they just boiled a few things and dumped them in the pots totally lacking seasoning and presentation. The entrees such as rice, meats and vegetables appeared pretty primitive and unappealing leaving us with very few options to eat. The juices served were water down! The so called salads were grossly cut vegetables akin to cattle feed. The soups were just pot of hot salt water with a few pieces of vegetables swimming in them begging for seasoning!
Improper labelling was another major concern ! Tge onion soup had chicken broth and one vegetable soup had pieces of fish. One veggie salad had slices of shredded meat and although it was promptly brought to the attention of supervisors, nothing really changed. So, if you are a vegan or vegetarian this hotel would be a nightmare and be prepared to starve throughout your stay. Some may even get religiously offended having to eat meat while the label said "veggie" food.
We did voice our concerns to the chefs and supervisors who tried to offer a few alternatives but nothing significantly changed and same sorry state and disappointment continued every meal.
Such callous ignorance of management is not acceptable in an international destination!
We tried to speak to resort manager to provide our feedback and resolve our concerns by sending messages online but no one really cared to respond !! The resort management must really get serious, be sensitive to international customers by offering good quality food and variety of options based on people's preferences for that high price we pay and also demonstrate you are better than a street vendor!!
Costco should remove this hotel from their list as it will only ruin your review ratings !!
Twice different Mexico trips were…
Twice different Mexico trips were cancelled....Now causing me to lose $800...How about doing the right thing and providing me w/ a store credit instead of blaming American Airlines...Awful service, no empathy and lack of seeing the big picture to take care of a member who spends tens of thousands of dollars at your store.
Three cheers for Costco Travel and the cheerful agents
We cannot give enough praise to Costco travel. We just completed a 6 day Disneyworld vacation with our adult daughter and her husband and 4 children. The trip from flight, rental car, resort, theme park tickets, etc was seamless.
We had no issues. When we did have questions or hiccups, Costco travel agents were quick to answer questions or go to bat for us to get things rolling.
We highly recommend Costco travel!!!
It was the easiest, stress free trip we have had in a long time!!
Thank you!
Disorganized customer service and inconsistent policy
We booked a 4-night Punta Cana vacation package through Costco Travel, and while the resort stay ultimately turned out wonderful, the airline disruption handling created a very frustrating and time-consuming experience.
Our outbound American Airlines flight was canceled twice, causing us to lose a full day of our trip. To still salvage the vacation, we had to purchase last-minute tickets from a different airline at our own expense. Thankfully, the resort recognized that this situation was outside of our control and extended our stay by one night at no charge so we could preserve the original trip length.
The most disappointing part was the return flight handling. Because the outbound flights were canceled by the airline, we needed to move the return by one day simply to preserve the original length of stay. Costco charged about $200 for this date adjustment.
However, when we contacted American Airlines directly, they advised that their Travel Notice Exception Policy allows the unaffected return date to be changed to protect the original length of the trip when outbound travel is disrupted. They also confirmed that the ticket itself remained valid for the adjusted return date, which made the additional charge even more confusing and upsetting.
In addition, we are still awaiting the reimbursement review for the canceled outbound flight and separately had to pursue the refund of our unused checked bag fee directly with the airline. I don’t understand this process since the airline gave Costco full control over our ticket.
Not every representative we spoke was polite and knowledgeable to handle this airline issue. This situation required multiple calls, repeated explanations, and a significant amount of time spent managing airline ticket issues during what should have been a relaxing vacation.
I am sharing this as constructive post-trip feedback because we book through Costco Travel specifically for peace of mind and support during unexpected disruptions. The most disappointing part is that Costco Travel refuses to give even an inch in offering a remedy to the situation.
I wanted to share my heartfelt thanks…
I wanted to share my heartfelt thanks for the exceptional service provided today by Sherry in Oklahoma.
When we encountered an issue with our Alaska Cruise, Sherry went above and beyond, proactively reaching out to team leaders, reviewing our emails and even contacting Cunard on our behalf.
Her dedication and commitment to resolving our problem were truly impressive.
Sherry is a shining example of the kind of customer service that makes Costco Travel our #1 Choice.
Thank you for having such an amazing team member like Sherry - we're grateful for her help and thrilled to continue doing business with Costco Travel! 😊
Genuinely delighted with the level of service
Just got back from a cruise today with P&O booked through Costco travel, I read some negative reviews before posting this but genuinely I was absolutely delighted with the service we received, we had a couple medical requests and Costco called 3-4 times in the lead up to the holiday to ensure everything was ok and if there was anything they could do to help. They also called the day before to ensure our parking was all sorted and arranged. The holiday was fantastic although appreciate that credit goes to P&O but for there part I thought Costco’s service was exceptional. Thanks to everyone for making our holiday fantastic !!!
Budget car rental is disorganized
I rented a car 6 weeks (or maybe a little longer) before my trip because I wanted to make sure I could get one. I also wanted to get off my flight and quickly get my car because we were getting in after 10:30 at night. I booked thru Costco travel and booked with Budget rental car. When I got to the counter they said they only had electric vehicles. I don’t have anywhere to charge an electric car if I got one. They then said they could give me a small pick up truck. My car port at my place won’t fit a pick up truck plus I have never driven a truck. Why would they rent me a car and only have electric ones. If they are going to rent electric cars it should only be to people who specifically check they want an electric, not everyone has the means to charge them. I went to the next counter and they were sold out. Fortunately when I got to Enterprise they had a few cars left. They lady said it would probably be more money than my Costco rental since I was renting last minute. We were both surprised when my total bill was only $30 more and I am driving a nicer vehicle than the one from Costco. I was able to cancel my Costco budget rental car. I am still going to check my credit cards to make sure I don’t get charged for cancelling. Budget is the worst rental car company- I will never rent from them again. What was suppose to be an easy car pick up process added 30 more minutes to my trip plus the stress of trying to finding a car to drive at that late hour. Budget needs to label their cars properly and not group electric cars with gas cars. They should be in their own category or categories if they come in different sizes. I am a loyal Enterprise car renter from now on.
Inflexible and restrictive experience with Cruise booking
Disappointed with the inflexibility to accommodate a date change for a cruise. Yes we understand it was a non refundable fare but life happens and we were willing to pay a penalty for our change which was a like for like cruise (same ship/same itinerary) just different sailing dates. But we were told absolutely no change ( do want to call out the agent who spent over an hour trying to help us but could not get the management at the escalation desk approve) even with a reasonable fee. We would have to pay almost the entire fare and more to make the change.
Lessons learned - Costco deals are good but too restrictive and harsh for a consumer.
Used Costco for a car rental—complete…
Used Costco for a car rental—complete train wreck. Enterprise Rent-A-Car refused to honor the reservation. On the day of pickup, they told us we had to pay more for a lesser vehicle (downgraded from a BMW/Audi SUV to a Hyundai Sonata). We were essentially forced to either ruin our vacation or pay the higher price. Costco offered no help. Stay away. I have been a Costco member for 26 years.
Costco Travel - never again!
Booked Coronado springs resort Disney trip through Costco. They do not disclose anywhere that much of this resort is motel-style with exterior doors. The online photos focus almost entirely on the beautiful Gran Destino Tower, which gives the impression that the resort is a traditional hotel. What they do not make clear is that most standard rooms are actually in separate buildings with exterior entrances — essentially motel-style accommodations.
Had we known this beforehand, we absolutely would not have chosen this resort. For the price being charged, this was extremely disappointing.
Some people may not mind motel-style layouts, but that is not what we expected when booking a Disney resort advertised this way. At the very least, Disney and Costco should clearly disclose the difference between the Gran Destino Tower rooms and the exterior-entry buildings so guests can make an informed decision.
Very disappointed with the lack of transparency.
Additionally, the room itself is uncomfortable. The air conditioning can not be lowered below 68°F, and the room fells way too humid. Best to book with a real travel agent.
We booked a trip of a lifetime Alaskan…
We booked a trip of a lifetime Alaskan cruise with Costco. After we were done with booking and payments, it was discovered that Costco Travel could not help up with hotels in Canada or return flights from Fairbanks Alaska. This has been a nightmare and we will never use Costco Travel again because of this. They have left us high and dry with no ability to provide what they sold us.
Bad, bad , bad. The Costco Travel agent apologized and agreed with us, but there was nothing he could do. They sold us a package they could not deliver on.
Trust Broken: Costco Travel Defends Substandard Vendors.
I have always viewed Costco as a special company that looks out for their members giving quality and vetting on behalf of their members. I am deeply disillusioned. I recently spent $12,000 on a vacation package, trusting that the 'Costco' name meant a premium experience, boy was I wrong, It did not. We paid extra for private transfers, from the airport to the resort, we were left standing on the platform for 70 minutes by their third-party vendor, W2M/BD Experience, waiting for our private ride. After researching, I discovered this vendor has a 1.4-star rating across multiple platforms. When I brought this to Costco Travel’s attention, I didn't receive an apology or a commitment to fix the service. Instead, their representative (Jessica) said that the 'Buying Team' offered no timeline for improvement, or to fix the service, (they don't care). Her response was essentially that they 'understand' if I take my business elsewhere. I'm very disillusioned with Costco! I won't use Costco Travel again!
Member beware: The 'Costco Quality' you find in the warehouse does not exist at Costco Travel."
Costco Trip = more expensive and BAD service
I booked a trip to Mexico and because of the recent events in the country I don’t feel comfortable traveling there with my toddler, so I had to cancel my trip. Although I am well within the cancellation timeframe it was a BIG hassle for us to cancel this trip. The airfare is non refundable and is refunded as a credit, which we are totally fine with. What they don’t tell you about that is you have to use the credit all at one time and you can’t book online with it so you have to call the airline to book which then also gets you charged a phone booking fee. I ended up having to use a $2300 flight credit on a $1200 flight credit, after spending 3 days on the phone with Costco trying to find out anyway that I could avoid losing so much money. Costco is meant to be a $ saver for middle class families, but instead they just cost me over $1000 due to circumstances outside of my control. On top of that, my vacation to Mexico was going to cost $6k and after looking outside Costco I realized you could book for half the price or left my booking on your own. I’m now taking 2 separate vacations to the cost of Costco’s 1. Even booking a rental car through Costco is a hassle if you need assistance. You’re not getting any extra support from Costco (even as a long time Executive member who spends thousands a year). So save yourself the headache and book on your own. Don’t fall for the hype.
