Poor customer service

Poor customer service. Once your travel date changes, working with Costco customer service is hell. Their process and service are terrible. You will face pain every where with them. Server hours of discussion are required to resolve your issue, and there is no guarantee that it will be resolved.

Avoid costco travel as they don't own the problems they create

I am an executive member with Costco for last 12 Years and I booked all holiday packages through Costco, untill now - not any more.
Costco customer service does not own the problems, they would ask the customer to work with the companies directly - which is a total waste of time in a holiday where we are paying by hour.
Expedia does better job, they own the problem, fix the issue and call back as customer can enjoy the time in holidays.
World has moved on Costco, time for you to change.

I booked a trip to London through…

I booked a trip to London through Costco Travel. I could have done it about $1,000.00 cheaper on my own but figured it would be nice to have the ability to use costco customer support if anything went wrong. When the second leg of our return flight was cancelled by the airline and the airline would not rebook us for 2 days, I called Costco for help. I was told that since it was a weekend there was really nothing they could do. I asked about the trip insurance I purchased with Costco and was again told I would have to call back on Monday. Well, I had to be home by Monday so I rented a car and drove 9 hours home. I am now being told by the airlines that they cannot issue a refund and that I have to go through Costco. Costco says it will be 1-2 weeks before anyone is even assigned to help me. The insurance I purchased through Costco is telling me, that despite having coverage for alternative transportation due to a trip interruption, a rental car is not included in that coverage. So in the end, I would have saved money and had better customer support if I had booked everything directly myself instead of going through Costco.

Car Rental

Booked car rental through the Costco Travel website. Was charged by Budget for LDW Protection without the amount being mentioned by the Customer Service Agent in Houston (IAH). This added $26.99/day on top of our rate. Celina and Janet at Member Services for Costco Travel totally went to bat for me and got that portion of the agreement refunded. I was shocked. So pleased with the dedication that Celina and Janet showed. Will definitely use Costco Travel in the future.

Costco is Useless!

Booking a rental car reservation with Costco Travel is useless. I booked a reservation for Spring Break travel 3 months in advance only to be called by local AVIS/Budget that the car I "reserved" is not available. AVIS/Budget said I didn't pre-pay reservation so I'm just stuck with what's available. The Seinfeld skit is real. Costco is great at making reservations, but not "holding" a reservation.

I had a very disappointing experience…

I had a very disappointing experience with Costco Travel and would not recommend them. We booked a resort stay through them in September 2023, but they gave us the wrong room. We missed out on the room we actually wanted for 3 of the 5 days of our trip. Instead of taking responsibility, they blamed the resort for the mix-up.

On top of that, our car rental was a disaster. The car we received was dirty and had no windshield washer fluid. I had to wait two hours for them to clean it because they had no replacements available. When I finally got the car, I drove off on a rainy day, only to realize they still hadn’t refilled the windshield washer fluid—making highway driving dangerous.

After the trip, I contacted Costco Travel, and they were apologetic, offering a 3-day Budget rental voucher as compensation. However, when I went to use it, I was shocked to find out it had already expired. Costco Travel refused to do anything to correct the situation despite multiple calls and emails. If they issue a voucher as compensation, they should at least ensure it’s valid for a reasonable amount of time.

This experience showed a complete lack of accountability and customer care. I expected better from Costco, but after this, I will be booking my travel elsewhere.

Unreliable and unhelpful if problems occur

Not reliable. Costco will not take any responsibility for the hotels they offer even when the hotel is covered in black mold and a health hazard. Long waits on hold to get in touch with customer service in the phone and only available to be called at office hours (so if you are travelling out of their office hours you’re in your own). After speaking to several customer service reps over several days, it is very apparent that they just follow a script and no problems get resolved. Impossible to get anyone to take anything seriously and being given different information every time we call. Also being told nothing can be done until you have completed your trip (defeats the purpose of having customer service at all). Avoid

No concept of customer goodwill

I called in to add my son to my existing cruise reservation. It took a reasonable 40 minutes or so and after then I realized that they spelled his last name wrong. Two hours later of holding it was finally cleared up. Then they tell me that my Costco cash card went down by $50. This makes no sense. So I ask for a supervisor and am basically told. Tough. He was gruff and lacks the understanding of the situation. Told me it was my fault since I changed my reservation that is what changed and since I accepted the T’s and C’s he was not willing to provide any compensation. For my inconvenience due to their mistake.

Can not recommend Costco rental car

Can not recommend Costco rental car. I’ve been on hold now for over15 minutes and reserved a car in advance with Costco. The line at the Fort Myers airport is long and the wait to get a car is over 3 hours. This is ridiculous. Not using Costco via budget ever again. Enterprise is much better.

Read the fine print! And don't expect empathy, common sense or customer service from "customer service"

To be fair, I did not read all of the fine print. So, that is definitely on me. But when you get a vacation package that includes flights, hotel and car rental - intuitively, I assumed/expected this would also include parking at the hotel. $350 later - it did not.

The travel package also did not include any checked bags, which I did notice. But I did not think they would be $60 per bag per person per direction. Essentially, assume an extra $500-$600 more, on top of the sticker price of your Costco Travel Vacation, and compare your options.

Also, don't expect any empathy, logic or answers to your direct questions from "customer service". They share the Costco name, but do NOT share the Costco customer service. They really earn their 1.9 star review.

15+ years of being a Costco Exec member, earning annual rebates... That is about to change. Costco Travel customer service was so infuriating that it has really soured my thoughts/feelings toward Costco as a whole. :(

Great family trip booked with Costco Travel

My family just returned from Punta Cana on a 1-week package booked through Costco. I am a relatively seasoned traveller so I did my homework on all the options for booking the trip. It was a bit complicated as we have 12 people in the family including 4 young grandchildren. I found the Costco travel web-site the most user friendly of any of the many travel company sites I tried. Their pricing is equal to or less than everyone else plus I received over $1200 in digital Costco cards after booking. The experience at our resort (Dreams Onyx) was outstanding and the flights and transfers all went smoothly. Costco will definitely be my #1 option for vacation packages from now on.

Our Cruise Booking got cancelled

On January 27, 2025, I booked two rooms for a cruise from Barcelona to Rome. The booking was made via phone, and a $900 deposit for each room was paid using a credit card. I used my credit card to book my room, and I gave the associate the details for my brother’s card. I received two separate emails from Costco confirming the booking and a lot of other information. After the cruise booking was made, we made an airline booking from Los Angeles to Barcelona and returned home from Rome two days later. Today, when I was looking at my credit card activity, I noticed that the $900 was charged and the next day it was reversed. I was shocked. Good thing that I noticed this early enough otherwise I would have lost lots of money and no travel.

Thus, I called Costco Travels today and spoke with Veronica for more than 90 minutes. At first, she was saying my conversation may not have been cleared at the first booking and that is why the booking was canceled. I told her that I did get the email from Costco confirming the booking. Veronica then reached out to Celebrities to reinstate the booking. She was successful in doing it. Now comes the payment part. Just like the previous time I first paid for my room with my credit card. However, Veronica will not accept my brother’s payment. She said he had to be with me to use his card. I told Veronica that was not the case the first time. She had no good answer. Since I was not able to make the payment for the second room right away, later on ended up paying with my card so that we do not run out of the 24-hour payment deadline.

I asked Veronica if Costco had any check and balance system for their customers. We could have been stranded in Barcelona, who knows? I am just reporting what I experienced. This was my first time booking through Costco Travel and will be the last time, too.

Terrible Experience with Costco Vacations – Avoid at All Costs!

If I could give Costco Vacations zero stars, I would. I strongly advise against using their services. Once you encounter any issues, you're completely on your own.

I booked a vacation package and was assured by two separate agents that if I canceled, I would receive flight credits that I could use directly with the airline. However, after canceling and contacting the airline, I was informed that this wasn’t true—the credits were non-transferable, meaning I was stuck dealing with Costco.

When I called Costco to clarify, they insisted the credits were with the airline and that I should wait for them to transfer, as it might take some time. I called the airline again, only to be told, once more, that I had to resolve the issue through Costco. After a few days, I contacted Costco again, only to be told they couldn’t locate my air credits. To make matters worse, they explained that even if I wanted to rebook flights, I would need to pay more out of pocket.

This was shocking because my flight credits amounted to over $4,000. Apparently, each ticket included $550 in non-refundable taxes, as per the government. That explanation made no sense to me. The entire experience has been frustrating, misleading, and disappointing. Save yourself the headache and avoid Costco Vacations at all costs.

Marquee Club experience spoiled our trip

We spent a few days in Vegas. Stayed at Cosmopolitan. Check in was great. Suite was comfortable and spacious. The worst part of the stay was the Marquee Club experience. They wanted $750 to $1500 to get a seat near the pool. We were moved thrice. We left. Then we had to hear the deafening music that went on till 3 am. Absolutely inappropriate. We had a room on the 27th floor of Boulevard tower. If you choose Cosmopolitan ask for a room not facing the pool or club. The hotel refunded the resort fee witch should not be charged. They are upcharging for this club which is not that exclusive. Rip off.

We recently booked a trip to Ireland in…

We recently booked a trip to Ireland in September 2025 for the end of 2025. We needed 3 seats booked on airlines! Costco agent screwed up the airline request and booked two seats on one day and 1 seat for the next day! They also were trying to book our connection with only an hour and 15 minute layover! Which is ridiculous for international travel!
When we try to get it fixed, there was a increase in price for their mistake!
They also group the whole trip as one total they don’t break down the hotels and the flights!
I didn’t expect Costco to screwup our trip arrangements and cost me more for my trip. I called them to save me money. I would not recommend booking your travel with them!

I had a medical empergency while in the USA…

I had a medical emergency while in the USA. Last mid February. I had insurance for 100 percent coverage. It is now January 7th of the following year and the insurance still isn't paid, having the hospital in the USA calling me for payment. They eventually refused my claim because because they asked if I had any treatments . They consider a test as being treatment. Also I was told by the clinic that I didn't have any problems.
