Refusing to perform Warranty and building against code
We built a house through Coventry Homes which was finished in January of 2016. While pouring concrete for the driveway and walkway several problems were noted. The company who poured the concrete didn't properly barricade the parameter which resulted in a trades worker walking through the concrete and pulling a toolbox through it. This issue was brought up to Coventry who only corrected one portion of the problem (the foot print still remains). This item was again brought up during our 3 month inspection and again during the 1 year inspection. We were repeatedly told that this was a warranty item but a supervisor would have to come to view the damage. Before our 1 year walk-through we noticed that rebar was starting to come through the concrete and again reported this problem to Coventry during our final 1 year walk-through. We were again told that a supervisor would have to come and view this. It has now been over 2 years since we have moved in and we are still trying to have both items addressed. During the last supervisor visit we were informed that they would only repair the foot print and that we were being unreasonable expecting them to repair the location where the rebar was showing through. We provided documentation to Coventry showing the requirements for rebar placement in concrete from the both the Alberta Building Code and Canadian Standard Association which requires the rebar to be 60mm below the concrete surface. Upon providing this information to Coventry we were informed that they are refusing to follow the required standards and will now no longer be repairing the panel with the foot print either. When we spoke with John Barone, their Warranty manager, and asked if they were going to repair our drive way to ensure it meets the required code, he laughed and told us 'no'. It is extremely apparent after discussions with numerous Coventry personnel that they are unaware of the legal codes required for building a house and their blatant refusal to have our driveway repaired to ensure it complies with provincial and federal standards is disgusting. They are clearly not following the guidelines of the Canadian Home Builders Association, of which they claim to be a member.
