The Hotel requires a complete…

The Hotel requires a complete refurbishment. Our room had a dirty carpet & was only cleaned once on Saturday morning during a Friday night to Monday morning stay. The en-suite toilet required a repair & the washbasin had a faulty plug. The carpet on the grand central stairway was damaged, worn & dirty. There is no longer a breakfast menu just full English or basic continental - no fish, kippers, salmon & scrambled egg, eggs benedict, etc.
The coffee on Saturday morning was undrinkable, self-service from a machine that required cleaning.
On Friday night, the bar ran out of bitter. The stocks of beer & lager bottles in the bar were depleted. The wine store adjacent to the Taste restaurant was also noticeably depleted. We were warned by another long-time Visitor not to use the Taste restaurant after she had a very poor experience on the Friday night.
With the exception of the breakfast waiters, the staff were indifferent to the hotel visitors.
For the first time in 10 years or more we were charged for a Council 2-day parking permit as there was no room in the car park. We were told that this had been the Hotel's policy for at least 3 years.
Very few people appeared to be using the Spa facilities - previously the pool, sauna, steam room, etc had been very popular.
My wife & I have stayed at this hotel 1-2 x pa for the last 10 years or more. Although it has slowly declined in appearance, we have always enjoyed our stay. The sea view rooms, the food & the staff have been excellent.
It now appears to have been run down by people who are indifferent to the comfort of Visitors. We will not return until we have assurances about its 4-star quality.

Ours was only a 4 hour spa experience

Ours was only a 4 hour spa experience. It was a gift which makes it even more disappointing. The hotel was very dated and needs an awful lot of TLC. It is dirty, cobwebs, dirty dusty skirting boards. The carpets are grotty, thread bare with black tape on the dangerous areas.
The first spa we were sent to was very dated, cold in all areas and the changing rooms not to spa standard by any means. We were told that at 10.30 the pool would be occupied by ladies aqua aerobics therefore for no extra charge we could use the new fire and ice room which was lovely. Much more modern and spa like but again it was really cold. We were the only people in there. My husband had a full body massage which he said was amazing the best ever. I had a ginger wrap, no scent of ginger or any of the ingredients stated at all which was disappointing. My treatment room was cold with the air conditioning on. No idea of the make of products. The shower in the changing rooms had a hand soap dispenser with hand soap in it. Once changed we were taken up to the bar for our spa lunch. My husband had a panini which was lovely. I had a chicken salad, the salad was lovely the chicken was Luke warm and so so dry I left most of it. I find it hard to believe that a 4 star hotel didn’t have any sauvingnon blanc. You don’t expect this standard when on the website it says luxurious. I must stress though that all the staff were really lovely, very attentive and helpful just a shame about the building, decor, temperature of the building, cleanliness, etc etc. certainly wouldn’t recommend.

Had a lovely trip here 1/10/25.

Had a lovely trip here 1/10/25.

Positives:
Second room we got (2nd floor) was very nice. Very clean, warm, quality bathroom fittings (love pink mood lighting) & the beds were comfy, good quality hotel bedding & soft pillows. View was superb.

Restaurant- fabulous service off Miguel, nothing was too much trouble. Great steak with lovely sauce (not advertised but ask & they are fab), hot food & every meal was really nice & great desserts.

Breakfast: nice offer overall, hot food could do with being a bit hotter but nice fresh coffee, pastries etc, warm plates & quality sausages. Good service again.

Spa: great! Nice pool, jacuzzi, ice room, sauna, steam room all great. Massage was very good & nice team of staff.

Reception : good staff (Will & Ellie), the manager was very pleasant

Minor points to elevate experience: bit of tlc needed here n there …. A bit more art in the bedrooms, the odd ornament needed on the fireplaces, few light bulbs out here n there. First floor superior room (first one) was a tad dingy & needs balcony sweeping & plants in the planters …. Just a bit of tlc & a females touch - lamp, ornament on the fire place to make it more homely (room 122)

Warm scone cream tea - gorgeous & drinks in bar all great

Overall - best hotel in Scarborough so don’t be put off by reviews & note to management …. Feedback given to help improve, what overall was a fabulous mini break - thank you x

I used to come to the crown spa hotel

I used to come to the crown spa hotel
It was 4*. Now 3* we had a meal at 7 30pm
Due to the hotel catering for coach parties.
We waited over 45mins. And attempted to
Speak to staff when we did we were told
It's not microwaved you know!. When it came ok but the service extremely poor!!
Staff need retraining after complaining .
Meal free. Breakfast too noisy paper cups.
I thought I'd walked into butlins!!!

Most vulgar and rudest staff going in the spa

Avoid this place at all costs it's absolutely diabolical and the staff are an absolute disgrace and especially 1 in particular in the spa who claims to be the supervisor, paid for a day pass only to find the hot tub and 1 sauna wasn't working but wasn't informed on check in so when I complained she reckons she told me which she 100% never but gave her the benefit of the doubt. Then to top it off as I was leaving I walked through into the spa area which by the way has (NO signs)saying no entry, staff only, authorised personall only, nothing at all.to which she then comes barging through shouting and raising her voice at me to get out because its off limits instead of just politely saying sorry this area is restricted she purposely chose to talk to me like she is above her station to which I clearly got defensive and said don't speak to me like that to which she said then don't get aggressive or il call the police.I went back a few minutes later and it got straightened out and I left but I won't be going back the place is an absolute disgrace and the staff need some clear management training and people skills.

Arrived 2nd September given a dirty room, filthy windows, complained and told Hotel was full and had no other room, we refused to accept the room and they then found another room No 221. The room was better but base of bed all torn and grubby. Food first night was a disaster, but improved after complaining. Dining room floor had dirty napkins which remained for 2 days, 2mornings they ran out of cups and guests were issued with paper cups. When guests complained about quality of food they were told we are catering for 180 guests what do you expect. This Hotel claims to be 4 Star, but honestly doesn't deserve 2 the place is dirty and desperately in need of a deep clean and redecorating. My advice to any potential guests, avoid at all costs.

Tired hotel

Avoid at all cost not a 4*
Food absolutely awful.
room dirty on arrival windows filthy inside and out.
Carpet dirty with hole in floorboard underneath kept going down hole.
As food was so awful we ate out last two nights and Bakers not helping in anyway in a form of reimbursement. I know it was our choice but it was disgusting a lot of our coach party were complaining .We were on last sitting at 7pm but was not served until 7.35 pm most nights. Had to search for cutlery in the mornings and only soup spoons . Breakfast Luke warm, tinned fruit and evening meal frozen cubed veg.
3positives bed comfy and lift worked and reception staff lovely.
I complained to reception about food and service.

DEFINITELT NOT 4 STAR SERVICE

It is a great pity that a 4 Star Hotel only gives at best 1 star service to coach parties that help them to fill their rooms, increase bar takings and keep their staff employed.
Our coach party of 22 persons have just spent 5 nights at the hotel that enjoys a good position with coastal views and pleasant staff willing to assist its visitors. All our dinners were spoilt by the poor quality and often inedible food given to our coach party and if this performance is repeated it can only damage the reputation of the hotel.
The management urgently need to sort out this issue and provide good dinners to those NOT enjoying their a la carte restaurant and motivate their catering staff so they don’t always need to apologise for their offerings.

Spa facilities and Staff excellent

Spa facilities only and not a hotel stay
Both a friend and I had a lovely experience using the Spa facilities and had two spa treatments. Staff were very pleasant and professional giving instructions on how to use the facilities, highly recommend going for a massage scrub, all rounder, very happy and felt as though I floated out of the hotel, lunch was nice and value for money, bar staff very accommodating and friendly, will definitely be back

I would give this hotel no stars if…

I would give this hotel no stars if possible,
Our tatty over priced room was red hot with the sofa bed over the radiator so we had to call the porter to turn it down, the t v didn't work, there were unattended children screaming and shouting banging doors, the restaurant closed at 9pm, on a Friday so we ended up with a sandwich from the bar, the sofabed was uncomfortable as the frame could be felt through the upholstery, the breakfast was cold and half of it missing even though the hotel wasn't full.
We gave it another night same again with the noise and heat, we had given up trying to have a good time by then and after another sleepless night we checked out. We complained by email to Oliver rigby who chose to ignore all 3 emails I sent, very rude and no management skills whatsoever, avoid this hotel the good reputation of it, from years ago, is all that remains.

Horrible staff treat us un fairy. Manager threatened to kick us out if we didn't go to our room for night . No drinks with dinner and the menu was severely lacking. We left one day earlier and was denied a refund or our deposit back.

Avoid at all costs

What a disappointment this place was. Asked for a seaview only to get a back alley view. Paid for a family room and arrived to a double bed, rang down and was told someone would bring us up a bed, went out and arrived back with a very tired child only for there to be no bed still. No bed arrived so all 3 of us in 1 bed was great.
The bed wasn't made uo very nice and it was far from clean.

Breakfast was absolute chaos and unorganised.
Before leaving we approached front desk and advised on the issue with bed ,could not have cared less.
We definitely won't be back.

More like Frown hotel

Good service until I complained about the dry chicken that nearly choked my elderly Mother! As soon as I complained the staff service turned ugly. Just an FYI I complained after I paid the bill as I’m not after no freebies just justice that the chef shouldn’t work in a restaurant kitchen again!!

Definitely NOT 4*

My husband and I booked for 2 nights but only stayed for one as we were so disappointed with the room we were given.
Check in was ok but when we got to our room we found it was very dirty. There were stains on the carpet and down the wall, there was a thick layer of muck on the skirting boards, the door looked like it hadn’t been wiped for months. The bathroom was also in need of some attention with limescale on the shower head and holes in the blinds.
The window frame was rotten and it was very difficult to open the window. When we did, there was a huge noisy air conditioning unit which was quite annoying.
This is definitely not a 4* hotel and the pictures on the website are extremely misleading.
The response from the manager to my review on trip advisor was “a rather exaggerated write up but never the less, quick to the point on asserting one’s opinion. Not entirely accurate though I might add”.
I had included photos showing the points I had raised and am among lots of reviewers all saying the same.
My advice would be to find somewhere else to stay.

Terrible hotel - avoid!

Terrible hotel. Might have been 4* 20 years ago but it certainly isn’t now. However they are charging 4* prices. Black mould on bathroom ceiling, thick cobwebs on the walls and we looked out of the window to a dirty wall and green moss! Breakfast was basic at best and food not presented in a particularly hygienic way. Provided feedback and have received no response which tells me they don’t care. Booked through Sound Travel Group who did nothing either. Avoid staying here. Would not recommend at all.

First the good.

First the good.
Staff are helpful and friendly.
Room was clean.
We’ve been going to this hotel for 16 years but the changes are worse since it’s changed hands.
They now take in bus runs which means you can’t always park to unload your luggage as there isn’t enough space.Which means you have to try and park elsewhere and lug cases to the hotel.
The room we used to book has been redesignated as a family room and the price has jumped about 50%.
Even the cheapest room has shot up if you book in advance.
An express breakfast used to be £9.95
That has changed to a buffet for £15.95.
Why ?
Due to the influx of bus-runs, in the morning, you can’t always sit in the lounge as it’s full of people waiting for the bus.
For us after 16 years it’s sad and now time to move on.
A good hotel ruined by greed.
