Product details

Brand: KUM

Is this the ultimate sharpener? At first glance it looks like a pretty ordinary double hole sharpener, but it's not. It's designed to give you a very long, sharp point, in two stages, by firstly stripping the wood away from the lead (hole number 1) and then by honing the resulting stick of lead to a needle-sharp 8 ° point (hole number 2). It has a further trick up its sleeve in that if you slide off the blue plastic end-stop (careful - sharp edges!) you can then continue sharpening in hole 2 to expose ever-longer pencil cores. Constructed from magnesium, the Masterpiece is supplied with two spare blades tucked into the plastic end casing, so when the originals wear out, you can swap the two blades over for longer life (which means thousands of sharpenings with normal pencils). The blades are very hard high-carbon steel, much harder than good kitchen knives, so the sharpener will last for a very long time. For best results use good quality wood-case pencils.

Excellent quality. Spare blades. I use this less than the plastic KUM Auto Long Point as I usually need to catch the shavings. However, the advantages to this one is that it's more durable and you can remove the blue bit so that the lead gets extra long. It has it's own nicely made 'sleeping bag' for some reason. It doesn't sharpen mechanical pencil leads like the plastic one, but it's the best sharpener I have ever used.

It works neatly with regular color pencils: I highly recommend it for that purpose. The problem is that I was looking for a sharpener for pastel pencils. It regularly breaks the mine even if I go slowly (but better than the KUM automatic long point).

A unique, innovative and super effective piece of kit.

I first bought the Kum master piece earlier this year, but wasn't sure if it was what I wanted and returned it. After some thought I decided to get another one. Its wasn't until I used it and did some drawing that I decided it was worth it.

Who would have thought a pencil sharpener could so much better than the one I have been using for years. Well worth the cost, it will last for the rest of my life.

Really solid sharpener providing very sharp point without weakening the pencil.

This pencil sharpener has a specific purpose - it's good for sharpening ordinary graphite pencils in my experience, but I have found that it takes too much of the wood to be useful in terms of sharpening coloured pencils. It seems important to me that the profile of the pencil is not altered by the sharpener.

Beautifully made sharpener in a cute case. Works really well and I am glad I invested in it. I have loads of rubbish sharpeners that I have bought over the years, but this is the perfect sharpener for me.
