Very friendly and helpful staff. This shop is a treasure trove, particularly for the acoustic guitar enthusiast. Moreover, they have the best luthier in the East Midlands in Colin Staples as far as I'm concerned. He has set up and repaired numerous guitars for me over the years. I wouldn't go to anyone else. Do yourself a favour and pay the shop a visit.

The service and quality at this shop is extraordinary.

I found some guitars on their website that I was very interested in and decided to go to the shop to try them out.

Walter, the assistant/owner is probably the most knowledgable individual I've ever met when it comes to guitars and gear. This is matched with an enthusiasm and bend-over-backwards service that borders on fanatical. He'll go and hand-pick the finest example of the guitar you choose according to your desired spec and tonal preferences, and your personality! He's spookily observant.

Rachael has also been exceptional in-store, on the phone and via email.

After you've met them it's no surprise that the guitars on offer are the finest examples you'll find when compared to other shops selling the same models. These people just care that much more.

Prices tend to be better than other guitar shops and box shifters even before you cut a deal.

From initial website visits and phone conversation/queries, through to visiting the Mansfield Road premises, was a very pleasant and favourable experience. Rachel and Walter provide exemplary customer service, with sensible pricing. My new Martin guitar purchase deal could not be bettered in the UK. To say that Dave Mann Music is a five star quality music shop, is an understatement.

We had done a lot of research and needed to try out some options. We wanted to listen for the tone we were after. The lady was really helpful, gave us lots of time and loads of different wood and sizes to try. All our questions were answered fully and in a non patronising way. We have come away with a great quality guitar that sounds really mellow (as we wanted) and represents excellent value for the money we have paid.

I rang inquiring about new strings for my sons guitar
an explained I couldn't get to the shop due to disability and no car and the lady that answered the phone knew exactly what I wanted , took a card payment , and I received the package the next day. Very pleased with service and would certainly recommended the store and staff.. Thank you

I walked away from this shop with an overpriced guitar that sounds distinctly average because I needed a travel guitar in a hurry to play at my friends wedding. First of alI it should be known that Dave Mann Music store doesn't actually display the price of their guitars in the shop (something I think that Trading Standards might have something to say about) which means that Mr.A can ask the price of a guitar and be told one thing, then Mr.B could ask 2 minutes later and be given a completely different price. Whilst trying out one of the guitars I was offered another one by the lovely lady and told that it is 'the poor man's version' of a more 'reputable' manufacturer... Thanks, I hadn't even mentioned anything about my budget at this point in time. I knew roughly what I wanted before I walked into the shop and the price range I was willing to pay having done some research (yes the internet is a wonderful thing) and visited other guitar shops. I also find it interesting that I wasn't actually offered any advice about the characteristics, tonal qualities or comparisons between the guitars I was trying out, which is strange from a company which according to its website has been "established for more than 40 years" and offers "unparalled customer service". The one thing I would advise any shop owner/staff is not to underestimate your customer. Be impartial and treat each customer fairly, and remember that the way you treat people speaks volumes about your character and is what they'll. If all that matters to you is how much margin you can make on each transaction then that attitude is what will be reciprocated to you.

For anyone serious about buying a quality guitar, at the right price with excellent service then dave Mann music is worth the drive from anywhere to visit. Walter who helped me purchase a collings was extremely knowledgable, friendly and passionate as well as been informed about all aspects of the guitar itself, the ethos of the company, the build quality, styles appropriate of particular instruments. Walter amply demonstrated the guitars characteristics and was happy and patient regarding comparisons and price points. He enabled me to make the purchase with a highly competitive price. This guitar will definitely help my development as a musician as well as the audiences enjoyment. Dave Mann music helped me make this life long purchase in a supportive and positive way with an excellent after sales service. Well worth buying your next guitar banjo uke or mandolin for this shop.

I did something I never thought I'd do. I bought a brand new Lowden over the internet -from Dave Mann Music. From start to finish, everyone I dealt with was just great. Walter sent me pictures when I asked for them, Dave chased after the particular pickup I wanted fitted, and Rachel talked to my guitar as I wasn't there to do it myself (and we all know how important that is!). The guitar arrived safely through the post and words can't really describe how pleased I am with it. And along the way my faith in human nature was restored, and some of the cynicism I reserve for the Internet evaporated too.

So pleased that I made the trip from Derby to visit DM Music in Nottingham, the whole experience was just great!
I had set my mind on a Taylor GS Mini when I arrived and Rachel soon had me sat down and trying the Mini out - I must have played 5 different guitars over the space of an hour. Rachel would leave me to play and just come back to see if I had any questions.
I'd pretty much decided on the Mini when Rachel put a Taylor Big Baby in front of me too try - she told me that the guitar might just 'fit' me better !
She was so right it was love at first pluck ! For me not only did it sound better than the other guitars but it just felt so right, so comfortable to hold and the neck was perfect - the grin on my face said it all.
One day I hope I can afford a more expensive Taylor and I'll be straight back to Dave and Rachel !

It is now 3 years since my first visit to Dave Mann Music. I have subsequently made the 200 mile return trip many times and completed 5 guitar purchase, all of which were great "buying experiences".
I would have no hesitation in recommending a purchase from Dave Mann Music via the internet as ALL the guitars are great, but a visit to the showroom is an absolute must (regardless of how far you have to travel) for the chance to play some of the best guitars on the planet side by side.
Walter's advice is always extremely helpful and he knows every detail of every guitar. He also make you feel very welcome and there is no pressure at all.
I have recommended Dave Mann Music to a number of friends and those that have visited all totally agree with my comments above.
If you are in the market for a quality guitar there really is no better place to go in this country. The only down side is that my wife will no longer let me travel through Nottinghamshire with a wallet in my possession!

I first made contact with Walter of Dave Mann Music over a year ago after my wife was badly let down over the purchase of a top end Taylor guitar from a dealer in France. I searched the internet for a "Specialist" guitar outlet who were able to offer real advice and not just a sales pitch. I found Walter and my wife and i have never looked back. My wife had a telephone conversation with Walter and he assured her that he had "The" guitar for her. He did too, we went to visit the shop and had a fantastic day playing different guitars which were kept in an imaculate climate controlled room. Walter then brought out "The" guitar he had in mind for her, a beautiful Collings 0041 with snow flake inlay on the fingerboard and a "Torch" inlay in the headstock and a sound to die for. That guitar came home with us and we have since been back and I purchased another beautiful Collings OM3A with custom "Torch" headstock inlay. At no time were we made to feel under any pressure to buy and were given honest and constructive advice and a cup of coffee too.
I have recomended this store to everyone i come into contact with who might be looking to buy a quality guitar and will continue to do so.

My only criticism of Dave Mann Music is that they are too darn far away from me, haha. But that's not really their fault I suppose :P.

I bought my guitar from them back in January 2012. I'd singled them out as one of the few retailers of Taylor Guitars that wasn't chain of music stores who cared not for the customer, but for the money. Dave Mann Music is a family business and they care! They care a lot! Since then I sourced replacement battery cartridges from them for the rechargeable 9V batteries we bought which we're too big. I didn't want to modify the original, so we bought extras for the modification.

My guitar has needed fret work for a fair time, it was particularly bad so the decision was to have a full refret. So I took it in on the 14th Oct 2013 and it arrived back in the post today. While there I was presented with a cup of tea and showed some of the new products. Some lovely guitars I must say. Sadly one can't own them all. Anyway I received the call of completion yesterday at around mid day. I received another call at 5:20pm from Walter informing me that he was driving the guitar to the delivery depot himself because the driver hadn't showed up and he knew that we had an important gig this friday (first in London). Utterly blown away by this level of service.

The new frets look great. No finger board damage to be seen (Which means a highly skilled technician). From what I've read, it difficult to get the original frets out of a fingerboard without a tiny bit of (repairable) damage. So Colin you are ace! Any tips on reducing fret wear would greatly appreciated. Oh and thanks for repairing the sound hole's pick damage (I've taught my band mate to strum more precisely & lightly now, so that shouldn't happen again :D).

If the career kicks off and I need extra guitars and any repair work, I know where I'll be going. Thanks Walter & Colin. I'll hopefully see you soon!
