Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the subscription model, citing issues with limitations and unexpected charges. People also frequently encountered problems with the app, including crashes, instability, and difficulties with basic functionalities like typing or translating documents. The user experience was often described as dreadful due to poor design choices, such as excessive blank space and small working frames, which hindered productivity. However, some people were satisfied with the product's quality, especially for professional or technical content, and found it superior to other translation tools. A few other people also felt that the user experience was positive, praising its ease of use, speed, and reliability, particularly for daily translations and integration with other applications.

I was really happy with Deepl Pro since 2021. But they introduced without warning in june 2025 a "new" version full of AI-like crap. See all comments here that prove that this version is a nightmare... See more

I use DeepL Write daily as a web app

I use DeepL Write daily as a web app, and I couldn't be happier with it. It's not the only tool that I use to polish my texts, but it has a firm place in my workflow. When the stakes are low, I just use Apple Intelligence to fix obvious misprints. If a text is long and every word matters, I use LanguageTool to know exactly what I have changed. However, many texts that I write fall between these two extremes: I don't mind some rewording, and I need more that what Apple Intelligence can do. In those cases, DeepL Write is the solution for me. I suppose that I could get similar results with a properly prompted chatbot, but the ease-of-use matters. I love a whole bunch of features implemented in DeepL Write: the automatic language recognition, the possibility to switch, with a single click, between just fixing mistakes and completely rewriting a piece of text, the possibility to see all the changes at a glance, the easiness with which I can select among several alternative improvements, etc. Good job, DeepL!

Amazed

I was totally amazed how perfectly the software translated from English into one of the least common languages Finnish. I translated about a hundred pages and only two or three words I decided to change. A truly remarkable achievements

Love this app

Love this app - has been and still is an absolute lifesaver.
It’s probably closer to 5* but for the limits on number of documents you can translate per month (should be more for the price).
I would also love the option for French of choosing formal language (vous rather than tu).
It needs to keep advancing and offering more for users as Google, Apple etc offerings improve.

DeepL APP

DeepL has been my go to from the start, I am discovering new ways to use it from basic translations to voice translations. I find it easy to use and find that using the alternative word substitutes works brilliantly for me.
Thank you DeepL. 👍

It simply translates everything!

I have seen some very negative reviews about DeepL here, but I confess that I don't really understand why.
I admit that there may be several explanations – some of which are not entirely innocent. From campaigns using fake profiles to “take down” the product (and, who knows, perhaps lower the company's value before an acquisition by an American player), to something much simpler: people who don't know how to use it, don't know how to install it, or are expecting to get everything “Pro” without paying for Pro.
I use DeepL seriously, every day, for several years, and I really use the features that make a difference: shortcuts (Command+T, Command+Shift+2), file translation, workflow integration, everything. And, honestly, I've never encountered any problems that justify the tone of the criticism.
I work mainly between Portuguese and English, but I also use French, Spanish, German, and other languages when I need to. The results have been consistent, fast, and, in my experience, clearly better than Google Translate in many cases — especially when the text has nuances, tone, or less ‘obvious’ structures.
For me, it's simple: I highly recommend it.

I am living in the Netherlands and do…

I am living in the Netherlands and do business in Germany, USA, Italy, France. I do speak these languages. Working from time to time with DeepL, however, gives me the confidence that the grammar and spelling is correct. I really appreciate that. I think you are doing a great job. Continue like that. Thank you.

My first choice

Trustworthy translations in general.

In certain cases google gives in Italien / German better results.

But for the ease of use is DeepL my first choice

I have been using DeepL for a few years…

I have been using DeepL for a few years now to assist me in learning Romanian. I find it hands down better than anything else I have used to date. I see some pushback on the AI implementation, but personally I like it. Romanian is very cultural and conceptual and this has helped me enormously. I use it on my phone dozens of times per day.

Always check before hitting 'replace'

Great tool but being proficient myself in French and English (most of the time translating from/into Dutch, French and English) it is always more than recommendable to proofread the translation before you replace it as occasional misinterpretations sometimes occur.

Good experience.

Though I am seeing a lot of negative comments for 2025, I must say I have not been experiencing the same issues. The main bugging point is indeed the limitations set way to low. With AI tools now able to do the same but a lot of other things on top, the pricing/value is becoming an issue. With that said, and being a college graduate in translation, I always felt Deepl's translations were better than Google's.
