The customer service was frequently described as unhelpful, rude, and combative, with many people struggling to resolve issues or receive proper assistance. Reviewers also found the return policy problematic, often encountering unexpected fees or outright refusal to accept returns, even for defective items. I purchased underwear shirts and the first time I washed them, all of the print on the back of the neck came off. The print was just decals (reminiscent of what you would put on model airplanes).

I'm Done with Dillard's

I have shopped here since the name was Stix Bear & Fuller.
I even worked here once. Now I'm totally done with this store! Im erasing it from my memory. The return r even just an exchange policy is not good. I'm not one for returning anyway. But, I purchased some boots that when I got home I tried to wear them 5 days later they were to narrow. I wanted to exchange for a different size. They did have the size. But, I didn't know their return policy on shoes on sale. It's all good though. Absolutely not another dollar spent in that store!!!

Rigid And Uncooperative Corporate Culture

What stands out about Dillard’s is how little flexibility they show compared to other department stores. In shared retail environments, most businesses manage to be cooperative and customer-conscious. Dillard’s consistently feels like the exception. The result is a frustrating experience that feels unnecessarily adversarial rather than service-oriented.

So Disappointed in Dillards

I have always liked Dillards, and I honestly don't remember having had one bad experience with them. However, I started to place an online order today and saw that I was being charged for shipping. In the past, if a customer charged $2,000 or more each year to their Dillards card, they were provided Elite status with free shipping, and I have had Elite status for so many years now that I can't even remember the last time I had to pay for shipping. Last year, I charged over $7,000 to my Dillards card due to Dillards purchases, so I wondered today what was going on. Then, after calling and speaking with a service representative, I was told that Dillards recently changed the free shipping policy that comes with Elite status, and now members only receive free shipping once during each billing cycle. It has been over a month, just before Christmas, since I ordered anything and received free shipping, but about a month and a half later I still am not receiving free shipping. So how long is a billing cycle??? It's confusing, and what's the point of having Elite status if the customer has to pay shipping fees, especially when that has been the main attraction to so many Elite status customers for years? Unless Dillards reinstates the free shipping policy, I guess I will be taking most of my business to department stores that offer free shipping. I am so disappointed in Dillards. I would think that keeping loyal customers would be more important to them than forcing Elite status customers to pay for most shipping fees.

Very inappropriately absurdly rude to a mother and her daughters trying on makeup

Me and my girls always go to Dillards at the Orem university mall so they can try on the tester makeup. I always make sure that they are not using it directly, but using the Q-tips and applicators provided to put on the tester makeup. Sometimes I bring my other kids with me, but I make sure that they are not making any messes or causing any problems. Well as my two daughters were trying on the tester make up, the manager of the makeup area, a tall man with makeup on came and told us that them trying on the makeup was inappropriate that he was the manager of the area and it was making him very angry watching my kids messing with the super expensive makeup. I did not even respond to the man besides saying, I would like to talk to the top manager of the store. He said yes, and tried to call the top manager, who did not answer the phone. I went and talked to the other ladies working in the perfume and asked to talk to another manager of the entire store. They had one of their store managers come and talk to me, I explained to her the situation that my girls were just trying on the tester makeup and having fun, and I make sure they use the tester applicators to do it to put it on and that they’re not making a mess or anything and their manager of the area was extremely rude telling us it was inappropriate for my daughters to be trying on their tester make up. She said they were just worried about sanitary needs and I said well then what is the tester makeup for? I am making sure my daughters are using the tester applicator and not making a mess that is an appropriate for you guys to be telling me that it’s not appropriate for my daughters to come and try on the tester makeup. It’s tester makeup that’s what it’s for and my girls are coming of age learning how to put makeup on and they think it’s fun. They’re not doing any harm or danger. She said she would talk to the makeup manager man. Next thing I know, I look over and see the makeup Manager) guy looking over at me, pointing at me talking to the other ladies who work by the make up. After that me and my family went to other places in the store then later came back through the store to go to our car. When we walked through the store, The makeup Manager) man was looking at me again pointing at me talking to one of the makeup manager ladies again. I could not believe how inappropriate and unprofessional he was acting, it was like he did not care if he got fired. Well, when I told my husband he was extremely angry with how me and our children were treated, he went to the store a couple days later and talk to one of the store managers and asked if the manager had heard about the situation to which he replied he had not and told him everything and to let him know that he wanted to be contacted to be let known what had been done about the situation and gave him his contact information which he never called and told him. My husband called the next week and talked to the head store manager at this Dillard’s and my husband asked what had been done, he said the man had been put on probation and that they were not going to fire him. I personally think an employee treating any customer that badly who was doing nothing wrong should definitely be fired! This whole situation was so beyond ridiculous. How an employee can get away with behaving like that! How that man treated me and my children was wrong on so many levels and this store has lost mine and my families business forever.

I am submitting a formal complaint…

I am submitting a formal complaint regarding an incident I witnessed today, Saturday, January 17, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m., involving a manager at the Stonebriar Mall location, his name is Darwin.

The manager engaged in prolonged, aggressive verbal behavior toward a female employee, including yelling and screaming in a public area, his face was red and full of anger. I tried to stop him, but he just ignored me without apologies. The conduct was demeaning, hostile, and entirely inconsistent with acceptable workplace standards—particularly for someone in a leadership position at what I thought was a high-class establishment. To me this looked like a case of sexual harassment in the workplace, I felt sorry for the lady he was screaming to.

This was not a brief lapse in judgment. It was sustained behavior that created an intimidating environment for the employee and an extremely uncomfortable situation for the many customers that witnessed this spectacle. It demonstrated a serious lack of professionalism and a failure to meet the basic expectations of management conduct.

As a result of this incident, I have chosen to discontinue doing business with Dillard's. I will also be sharing my experience with others in my personal and professional network. I maintain a public-facing platform with a significant following, and how this matter is handled will directly influence whether this experience is discussed publicly. I do not want to ever see this manager at this store again or I'll take action. The young lady, professionally dressed, was blindsided by this action, victimized by this corporate bully.

I am requesting that this complaint be formally investigated and addressed with appropriate corrective action. Conduct of this nature—particularly from a manager—raises serious concerns about leadership standards of Dillard's and employee safety. I felt even my safety was at risk, this man acted like a lunatic.

I expect a timely and substantive response outlining the steps taken to address this issue. I will be checking up to make sure he is no longer employed there. I also request an apology from your staff.

I have never had such a bad experience…

I have never had such a bad experience at Dillard's IN MY LIFE. Worse than Macy's
Worse than WALMART. I purchased heels at Christmas and was told I could return of they turned out to be too big which... SURPRISE. They were. I went to return them with my receipt, within my window of return and was told " these were worn". Yes. They were. On carpet to see if they fit. I have tons of blisters cause the shoes suck. Not once was I told I couldn't return them if they didn't fit. I was told the exact opposite. This is the exact reason I only buy shoes at Nordstrom. This place is absolutely horrible and the employees on the floor at ANY dillards I go to, are absolutely horrible too
Nasty rude ignore you every chance they get.

I purchased a Unworn Online Purchase - No Exchange Allowed of dress shoes…

I purchased a pair of dress shoes online from Dillard’s on October 29 for $175. When they arrived, I realized they were one size too large. Due to travel, I was unable to visit my local Dillard’s store until December 30.
When I brought the shoes in, they were still in the original box and had never been worn - which the cashier confirmed. Unfortunately, the store manager told me that because I was outside of the 30-day return window, I could not receive a refund or exchange, even though I was only requesting an exchange for the correct size.
I then contacted Dillard’s customer service and was told the same thing - that there are no exceptions to the 30-day return policy, even for online purchases.
I find this policy extremely rigid and disappointing, especially for online orders where shipping, timing, and travel can reasonably affect when a customer is able to return or exchange an item. As a result, I am now stuck with a $175 pair of shoes in perfect, unworn condition that I cannot use.
I believe Dillard’s should consider allowing reasonable exceptions for online orders and unworn merchandise. This experience has left me very disappointed, and I hope the company reconsiders how inflexible this policy is for customers acting in good faith.

⭐ Dillard’s Review

⭐ Dillard’s Review

I recently made a purchase at Dillard’s and received a $25 coupon with my shoes. When I went back to return a different pair — the very shoes that coupon was given with — I was told I could not receive a refund because the coupon had already been used.

At no point during checkout did any staff member explain that using the coupon would void the return policy on the original purchase. Management later stated that “it was written on the coupon,” but I was never shown the coupon or given a chance to read the fine print before they applied it.

This is a poor customer service policy and an example of how unclear communication directly affects consumers. No reasonable shopper would use a $25 coupon if it meant being stuck with a $100 pair of shoes they couldn’t return.

Dillard’s needs to do better in transparency and customer communication. A simple explanation at checkout could have prevented this entire issue.

Purchased a box of See's Candy at a Dillard's in Altamonte Springs, Fl. When opened it was very stale and rancid. The very next day I returned it with receipt but they refused a refund or even a credit because they don't give refunds for food items! I will never shop there again! This has to be illegal!

Customer service was not helpful resolving an overpayment on my wife's bill. They would not work with me and my wife has a medical problem that makes it difficult to talk on the phone. My wife had to interupt medical procedure just to attempt to talk on the phone even though it is difficult due to her medical condition. Very un helpful in resolving a simple problem.

Since the change to Citi

Since the change to Citi, you make using in store rewards impossible to use as you have additional rewards coming up after each transaction so you end up using multiple rewards on single use days losing additional rewards. Online, there is no place to add rewards and customer service will not add for you. Customer service cancelled my order of $1500 rather than honoring my reward. I also closed my Citi account and will finding a new place to shop.
