Noise & Nuisance
Subject: Ongoing Noise & Nuisance Disturbances from Dorsett Hotel, 58 Shepherds Bush Green, London W12 8QE
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing as a long-term resident living adjacent to The Hoxton Hotel (65 Shepherd’s Bush Green), regarding ongoing and increasingly disruptive noise and nuisance disturbances originating from the Dorsett Hotel and the associated Shikumen Restaurant Club at 58 Shepherds Bush Green.
While I acknowledge that The Hoxton Hotel management has on occasion constructively responded to complaints and sought to align with the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham’s Statement of Licensing Policy 2022–2027, regrettably, this has not been the case with the Dorsett Hotel. Since 2014, I and others in the vicinity have persistently experienced highly intrusive noise disturbances related to their operations — most notably from their deliveries and staff activities during unsociable hours.
Despite repeated concerns being raised, Dorsett Hotel management continue to deny any breach of regulations or occurrence of deliveries outside recommended hours. However, this assertion is demonstrably false. I have maintained a detailed record of incidents, including video and photographic evidence, which I am prepared to share upon request.
Nature of Disturbances (intensified throughout 2025):
* Loud reversing alarms from delivery lorries.
* Prolonged engine idling from lorries and vans.
* Slamming of heavy vehicle doors during loading/unloading.
* Movement of metal trolleys across hard surfaces generating high-impact noise.
* Staff shouting and engaging in loud conversations during night-time and early mornings.
* Staff smoking and vaping in the delivery area, producing not only noise but also odour nuisances.
These events routinely occur outside of the acceptable delivery and operational hours outlined in the H&F Licensing Policy, causing significant disruption to sleep, wellbeing, and overall quality of life for nearby residents.
Request for Action:
I respectfully urge the council to:
1. Investigate and monitor the site, particularly during early morning and late-night hours, to verify the persistent disturbances.
2. Formally engage the Dorsett Hotel management regarding these complaints and require corrective action.
3. Consider initiating a licensing review under the Licensing Act 2003 due to ongoing non-compliance.
4. Explore the use of Community Protection Notices (CPNs) or other enforcement tools under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 if appropriate.
I am happy to supply my full documentation, including timestamps and video/photo evidence, to support a formal investigation.
I look forward to your urgent attention to this matter and a response outlining what measures can or will be taken to restore a reasonable standard of peace and quiet to the area.
I note that both hotels were purpose-built. While they claim to be "neighbourhood hotels," it is evident that little to no consideration was given to their design in relation to the detrimental impact on the physical and mental well-being of residents in adjacent properties.
Furthermore, the design of both goods yards has created a vacuum effect that amplifies noise. No acoustic insulation, light pollution mitigation, or other noise-reducing construction methodologies appear to have been implemented, further exacerbating the impact on the surrounding community.
This lack of consideration reflects an ongoing attitude of disregard for the local environment and the well-being of neighbouring residents. It appears that commercial interests have consistently been prioritised over responsible planning and community impact.
