Buyer beware — get every term in writing before giving DriveTime any money.

My experience with the DriveTime location on Coliseum Blvd. was extremely disappointing.

I was originally told the required down payment on the vehicle I selected was $2,345. Because I was waiting until payday to complete the purchase, I was told I could put down approximately 15% of that amount to hold the vehicle for seven days, then return and pay the remainder.

I paid about $400 based on that understanding.

On the day I was scheduled to pick up the vehicle, I called ahead, added the vehicle to my insurance, submitted the paperwork they requested, left work early, and paid for an Uber to the dealership.

When I arrived, I was then told that my required down payment had increased from $2,345 to $2,995 — an additional $650.

I was later told that the financing terms could change or expire, but that was not explained to me when they accepted my money to hold the vehicle. Had I been told that the quoted down payment could change before pickup, I would not have relied on the original amount or incurred the additional time and expenses involved in preparing to complete the purchase.

I declined to proceed under the new terms and requested a refund.

My warning to anyone considering buying from DriveTime is simple: do not assume that the numbers you are given when you place a vehicle on hold will necessarily be the numbers you are given when you return to purchase it. Ask specifically whether the down payment, financing terms, and approval expiration date can change, and get the answer in writing before paying anything.

I understand that financing approvals can change, but if a customer is being asked to pay money to hold a vehicle based on a quoted down payment, I believe any possibility that the required down payment could change should be clearly disclosed before that payment is accepted.

Based on my experience, I would not recommend this dealership.

bought my 2023 Nissan rogue with 44000 miles on with the understanding that there is nothing wrong with the car and there was only 1 owner. not even a week later I was having issues with the electrical sensors on the car, I let the salesman know who sold it to me, he told me they don't handle it that I needed to contact the warranty place which was Silverock I reached out to them and they told me to take it to midas, in which I did, but by the time I got there the sensors were working and they couldn't get the codes to see what was wrong with it. so they talked to silverrock who told them to reset ev erything and see what happens then, so they did, the sensors continued to keep going off so too kit ack to midas who again stated that silverrock is not going to pay for anything if they cant get the codes off of it, so by them pushing the time back my 1500 mileage warranty was slipping away, this past weekend drove it to Indy going 70 miles per hour (the speed limit) and out of no where the warning lights and all of the other lights came on and my car dropped to 30 miles per hour in about 3 seconds which then left all of the other speeding traffic slamming on brakes to avoid collision with me. I called midas in ft Wayne that I had been going to and told him I was going to try and make it to the midas in fishers going only 30 miles per hour or less because my car went into limp mode. and see if they would run the codes and let him know what they are so he could contact silverrock, that worked, the next day took it to midas in fort Wayne who then looked over the codes and then started my car and drove it and again nothing was wrong with it, at this point midas and silverock are throwing up their hands as to what is wrong with it but they know it is something to do with electronics, today I took it in to Drive time who then gave me a number to call since I didn't;t get back with them in the five days after buying it, (even though I really did and have a text to prove it) I called the number he gave me and they basically told me there is nothing they can do, even though I followed everything that I was suppose to do, and when they were first notified ti was in the first week, they don't care, so I contact a lawyer about the Indiana lemon law and well l guess what nothing I can do there either, Im suppose to wait and if it cause a bad accident then I can sue, this is pure BS, I bought the extended warranty and silverrock tells me to take it to the Nissan dealership to see what they can do but now I have a deductable, which I would not have had they taken care of the problem right away. DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM DRIVETIME, THEY WILL F*** YOU OVER, I don't feel safe driving this car and they would not even get me a rental until this is fixed or a loaner car.

Shane and Rick, both are amazing. They were patient with me, had a hard time finding a car that I could feel comfortable in, they explained everything that I was signing, clear information of where car came from the history and even the video. Fort Wayne IN is the best. Thank you 😊 🙏

I called the day before going in stated what I had down and where I needed to be for a monthly payment. Shane showed me vehicles that were within the numbers I gave him and didn’t push for the more expensive option. That has not been my experience with previous car lots. 10/10 would recommend him to anyone looking

Cary Dixon was an excellent sales person. She was knowledgeable and courteous and generally a delight to deal with. Answers all my questions precisely and made the process as smooth and easy as possible.

Heather was very polite and understood what we wanted and was willing to help my daughters get hot chocolate at the fort Wayne store. And she mad us feel welcomed.

The young lady made it very enjoyable. Helped me fill out everything. Saved me a trove by finding what I wanted in town. She was very friendly and just made everything smooth

I worked with Heather Cecil at the Fort Wayne location, she was very nice patient and friendly. This was my first time in their establishment (never knew it was here) despite me living in the same town. My overall experience was nothing short of AMAZING. I walked away with a 2024 Kia forte Lxs. Where as other dealership in town told me no. I was told yes here and that absolutely meant everything to me. The process was straightforward as it gets & not very long at all. Again had an excellent experience w drivetime highly recommended them great vehicles to choose from they take the time to go over everything w each & every vehicle & also after choosing the one you want they go over a full check list nt only to make sure everything is in working order,but also so you know where everything is all vehicles go over a full work through mechanical, before there put on lot.they are also covered w silver rock which is similar to ox or car shield ect.for most stuff except normal reg maintain such as oil changes ect most places don't have anything like that, test drives are a simple route & if for any reason you decide before or @ the 30day mark you can let them know & get something else everyone there is very professional each time I've been there ,they even do trade ins. @ a fair or more then most will do.cary was awesome, before that a few years ago I had Amy great experience both times there available w any questions even after you drive off the lot & think of something the nx day.all over great places to also you can view online what they have, & can if you see something you like you can reserve & if you choose get pre approved before making an appointment. But they really work w people..

Well you do not get to pick what car you want. You don't get to pick the price you pay. Their commercials are not true. I bought a car and not even 8 months later the engine blow up and now I am screwed because they wanted to charge more for insurance. when I didn't have money for it. Plus I only got the choose between 2 vehicles. So 😡

Tried to sell us a wrecked vehicle even (just because a carfax sheet doesn’t show a wreck folks doesn’t mean a car couldn’t have been previously wrecked and not reported to an insurance company!) after we drove nearly 2 hours down to get said vehicle, and it was also super dirty. The female ‘manager’ on duty had absolutely 0 customer service skills and was just plain rude as could be! There was clearly good damage on this vehicle that was noticeable and while the gentleman there was nice and even offered to clean the vehicle, the manager refused to allow that to happen, she’s SUPER DUPER at her job. Bottom line? After we left and didn’t purchase this vehicle, we grabbed dinner and then while driving back past the lot, noticed that they just put that same WRECKED vehicle back out for sale!!! So, bad place to do business with guys and there’s likely a reason people say there’s a special place in hell for used car salesmen, or in this case, their managers??

This was Drive Time's reply, once you are past 30 days you are toast if your engine blows!! They won't even try to help their image by helping out a young family man who's risking losing his long term job over a company that simply does not care and just wants to take your money! This is going to all socials and there are alot of socials if they cannot come up with a resolution for this common problem!

I had a appointment and asked before I drove a hour to the appointment about my paper temp license and was told I could get a vehicle. I made it to the appointment on time had truck with car trailer in case a issue and done all paperwork and last step was to test drive and thay would not let me because of the license that I was told was fine very disappointed and felt like all thay wanted was to get me in door told me I could bye car but can’t take it home
