Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 145 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers were dissatisfied with unexpected charges and unclear pricing, often finding the final cost much higher than anticipated for services like insurance, tolls, or penalties. Reviewers frequently encountered issues with the location, noting it was inconveniently far from the airport and required multiple shuttles, leading to significant delays. People also reported problems with the payment process, including being charged for insurance they declined, unexpected fees, or issues with card re-charges. However, some people also felt that the staff provided excellent service, assisting with car changes and ensuring quick pickups. Conversely, a small portion of people felt that the staff were unhelpful, rude, or primarily focused on making sales, leading to frustrating interactions and long wait times.

The worst rental car company

On September 17 I rented a car from Drivo renter car . A chevy Malibu. On September 19 I return the vehicle they claim I damaged The glovebox door. Now there claims dept has contacted me and wanting me to pay for a damaged glovebox door for the amount of $384.00. Ok I never opened or used the glove box had no reason to open the door I was the only one using the car. So now im arguing with them that this is a false claim trying to bill me for. I have tried contacting the manager and customer service but no help. They referring me to claims dept. Im so fed up with this company and their false accusations. I going to call the BBB and file a complaint.

We booked a car this morning We were assisted by JolalHe told us to wait for the car, we waited
for 50 mins. People who came after us got their rental and left but we were kept waiting. I asked DONI about my status. He told us who helped meSo I went looking for Jolal. The back door wide open and I saw Jolal still there. I yelled at him and asked where
my car was. He said he was in break and still has 10 more mins.So i came to the front to talk to my wife who was waiting in the waiting area. I saw Jolal was talking to somebody in the parking lot so I went went out to see him. That somebody said he is a supervisor
(Masrafy)Masrafy said I was not supposed to go back and it a private property. We tried to explain him what was going on as he was supervisor. He told us we were yelling and so bad behavior,he will cancel our trip.Jolal went back to the front desk and we went
back to talk to him about the car. He said he cancelled and he said Doni called us twice. But Doni never called us. In fact I reached out to DonNot only they cancelled our trip, the lied to us.we complained. Hope someone will look at the camera and take action
by Drivo company. They cancel our trip with note the company-will not be able to proceed with the rental due to disrespecting a company employee. Drivo employees lie to us . Beware of Drivo at LGA. They are very bad and zero trust employees. 22-61 94th St

This place charged me so much for my EZ pass , 2 weeks later and still sending me a bill. This place is a rip off.. Very long wait on line. Only 2 people working, service is terrible, They charge a fee everyday for using your EZ pass .. Please don’t rent here. So many hidden fees. Wish I could give them 0 stars. They found away to make money off of customers through hidden fees.

Do not rent from this place

Do not rent from this place. You get what you pay for and you’re better off spending a little extra money on a rental and getting a better car and experience. Trying to find the rental car place was impossible and took me almost 2 hours from when I landed until I was in my rental car. Having to walk far then take a train followed by a bus is just inconvenient. Only to get to car rental desk and be asked not just for proof of insurance but entire insurance policy so they can see everything on it and try and sell me on more insurance. Got in my rental car which smelled like smoke and had a cigarette butt hole in back seat. Shortly after driving off my light came on and tire pressure was low in all 4 tires and I had to stop somewhere to fill it up. Had to arrive back with rental car earlier than I should have to plan for all the extra time it took to get shuttle and train back to airport. Do NOT rent from here.

The staff did a great job on attending to my needs, car was clean and good on gas. Getting in and out is very important to my time management and they got me a car within minutes. There was no line and the shuttle picked my family and I up right when we arrived.

Avoid this company

Nowadays most retail businesses are overly warm and friendly to their customers, but not so at this place. From the get go I was made to feel like I was an adversary. I made my booking through an online travel agent. I prepaid for a car rental that was lower than competing big name (Budget/Avis etc) rental companies. When I arrived at the office to get the car I had to show the credit card I used to pay for the booking and also show that the card was actually the one I paid with. So I had to access my credit card app and show that the fee was charged to my account. Then the ACE/Drivo rep scrutinized my personal auto policy and found that I don’t have collision coverage. I said my credit card covers vehicle collision damage and I showed him a copy of the credit card terms. He informed me that they don’t allow “split coverage” so I would have to buy collision through them, at an additional $30/day! Later I learned from the contract the coverage included a $1500 deductible. It seems splitting the coverage is okay when it is split with them. When one is traveling and prepays for the rental car one has limited options. I couldn’t just walk away and abandon my prepaid rental because it was non-refundable. I was unable to reach the online booking agent by phone, so I was forced to pay it, but under protest. I had no other reasonable option. I was given a new Toyota hybrid. But I took pictures of every little nick to make sure I wouldn’t be charged for any possible hint of damage.
I say buyer beware! You may be tempted to select their cars because you will be saving a few bucks, but be prepared for a fight with the staff to avoid additional costs.

Total scam

Total scam. This company will play a ‘shell game’ with money they steal/overcharge/hide from customers. We had to fight them AND Rentalcars.com and Ace Rental car for 2 months to get our money back.

They are SCAMMERS and deserve to be underneath a prison.

STAY AWAY FROM DRIVO

Returned their car in the same condition received. I have been waiting more than 2 months for them to return my deposit despite the fact that I have called and spoken to customer service 3 times and was advised my deposit would be returned within 48 hours. The car was returned in 08/11/2025 and today is 10/21/2025 and I still have not received my deposit. STAY AWAY.

Terrible service and lack of information

They requested proof of insurance which was not a problem but would not take a paper copy and did not let us know this until we were at the counter. They require us to log into our insurance company so they could verify. Then they told us unlimited mileage but this is also untrue. Personal at the counter were very unhelpful and were way more interested in getting the sale made. Car windshield was terribly dirty on inside and it smelled like smoke. I will not rent from them again.

RIP OFF/UNWARRANT CHARGES

I spoke to one of mangers and I was instructed to send this email urgently so I can be helped with this issue. I had a family emergency and was not able to use my reservation for Sat June 7th, 2025. I asked to reschedule for Sat June 28th. I was already charged twice due to an error made on their part. I asked them to help me through this, they assured, me that this would have this resolved quickly. It has been 5 months, and I still have not been reimburse. I do not recommend this company at all. Stay far away as possible. Customer service is dreadful, and they are so unartful. If I am not reimbursed in by next week this will become a legal matter. AGAIN EVERYONE BE AWARE

The rental with Drivo in Newark airport…

The rental with Drivo in Newark airport gave me a bad experience with charging people.

Actually, I paid $513.26 to rent a car with an actual rental value of $432.69 according the agreement.

Unfortunately, the Drivo customer service always reply for blinding my words. they always said they have released my security deposit and Nothing-else can refund to me! I didn’t receive any refund for the over charge.

* I made my initial booking on May 6 and paid $13.26

* Because I was told my car was ready later than planned, I picked it up later on August 16.
At that time, I was charged $500, which matches the deposit stated in the agreement.
I also received a receipt for this charge on August 16.
* According to the new agreement dated August 16, the rental estimate was $460.52 (depending on return time), and the deposit was $500 I paid on picking up day.
* I have paid $513.26 in total for the rental until August 16 in total.

Please note: My bank record shows only one charge of $500 from Drivo and no other transactions since then.

I returned the car on August 23, one day earlier than planned. The invoice dated August 23 clearly states that I would receive a refund of $67.31. The total rental price is $432.69 on the new invoice of August 23. However , if adding my 1st payment, the refund should be 513.26- 432.69=$80.57.

When I asked the refund for over charges, the Drivo customer service always reply for blinding my words. they always said they have released my security deposit. Nothing-else can refund to me!

I paid $513.26 to rent a car with an actual rental value of $432.69 according the agreement.

They don’t want to give me the refund.

Be careful the payment when renting the car with Drivo. I don’t recommend renting the car with them.

Avoid--hidden charges

When booking my rental online, I was not notified of Drivo's policy of "penalty states" and "forbidden states". I have rented cars for many years from many different companies, and never encountered this rule. I was only notified of it when I went to pick up my car, at which time it was too late for me to figure out alternate plans with a different company. On my trip, I ended up having to book a hotel in Ohio, five minutes across the West Virginia line, because there were no rooms available in my destination state. As a result Drivo has charged me an extra $210 penalty. This is ridiculous and extremely poor business practice. I will never rent with this company again and have encouraged friends and family to avoid it.

In addition, the seats in the car I was given were dirty, and the cruise control had been disabled and was unusable.

**Update**

After posting my review, Drivo contacted me and offered $50 as a "gesture of goodwill," and also requested that I change my negative review to positive. I said I would only do this if I was refunded the full amount of their ridiculous "penalty." The representative replied that this was not possible, and now I would only get $40 back.

Can't stress enough how shady this company is. Stay away.
