Caution - might be genuine, might be a scam

Received unsolicited 'mailshot' letter in the post this morning saying they are a 'transactional acquisition fund' looking to 'invest in, merge or acquire' my business. The letter included 'warnings' about traditional business brokers (the warnings themselves are valid and I fully agree with them).

Letter doesn't meet UK legal requirements for correspondence (no company registration number etc.) but that could be that it isn't a company writing to me.

Letter did show website - the website has an address but again is missing company registration details (a legal requirement for company owned websites in the UK)

Checked out the domain name. It was registered 43 days ago. The name of the registrant is withheld. This is not unusual if it is an individual who owns the domain because of bots that harvest whois data and send junk mail, less common if it is company owned.

The address is for serviced offices.

LinkedIn check for the name of the individual on the letter doesn't find that person at Dupont Holdings.

This entity may be genuine, there are a number of highly successful and respected corporate finance advisers that are one or two man bands - most of these don't claim to be a 'transactional acquisition fund' though.

I've ticked the 'send them a copy of the review' button so they may respond.

In the meantime if you have received a similar letter please exercise caution - they may be genuine, but they might not.
