¡Penoso!

Update December 2023

Update December 2023: After a long stretch of relatively good experiences with them, they pulled an unpleasant trick on me. My plane was delayed by about 2 hours. I called them in advance to inform them of this. Upon arrival at the rental car desk, they explained that due to my delay, my car reservation had lapsed, and they no longer had a car for me. The only car available was an electric one, for which they wanted to charge me three times the price of my original reservation. Which company does that at an airport location? I had no choice but to find a car elsewhere, which, needless to say, cost me extra time and money. Renting a car at the last minute is more expensive than booking in advance. Therefore, my advice would be to either book your car later and hope your plane arrives on time or avoid the company altogether. What a shame; I am only giving them two stars because I rented from them many times before without any problems!

STAY AWAY FROM DRIVALIA

Hired car online but unfortunately my plane was diverted as Edinburgh airport runway was closed so tried to call Drivalia 3 times from Glasgow where we landed but calls just rang out so eventually flew to Edinburgh and got to car hire office to met with Stewart who at first seemed pleasant then when he typed in my name he arrogantly told me I should have arrived at 8am and I was now over 4 hours late and I never called them I was stressed enough at being held up I didn't need him telling me I was late I told him I tried calling but no answer he told me that he had been there all day so I showed him proof on my phone that I tried calling 3 times and he said he was probably busy he then told me that they gave the car away that they had for me and if I wanted a car they had an SUV type car but that would be £25 extra a day I told him that's unacceptable to which he replied that they can't keep cars for anyone I then asked to speak to a manager to which I was told there was no management on site at the weekend it was excuse after excuse so I was left with no car

PLEASE NEVER USE THIS COMPANY !!!

Worst car hire in my life. Avoid at all costs!

Worst car hire in my life. I've been traveling on my job for over 15 years, using rental cars all over Europe, Africa and South America and unfortunately my worst rental car experience was in Edinburg with Easirent/Drivalia. So we rented the car at Easirent at Edinburgh airport, (which is operated by Drivalia at this specific location). After refusing all unnecessary unlimited mile offers at the counter 60 mins later we get a car. To be honest, it was an upgrade from what we have ordered initially, but my excitement was soon over at the furthest point of our travel at Isle of Sky. The car clutch busted, leaving our car undriveable. So we call the brake down service of Drivalia, which was kind enough to organize the tow truck for us 2 hours (!) after the break down. It took us to the nearest garage, where the mechanics confirmed it was a mechanical fault and unfixable to be safe to drive. At this point we have already talked to several different people of Drivalia asking what will be their solution. Most of them were rude, firstly blaming us in the first place (mechanic has confirmed it was the cars fault not the ours), arrogantly stating that they do not deliver the replacement cars and so on. After numerous calls we were lucky enough to land on a pleasant person, who tried to find solution, but his best offer was for us to wait overnight, for another tow truck to come pick us up and tow to Glasgow. I will point out the cheapest available hotel at the area was available at 500 EUR/night. So all this "finding solutions" process took another 5 hours, keeping us waiting at the garage. After the offer to wait overnight we decided to travel ourselves back to the Edinburgh by train (7 hours two train travel, with overnight at Inverness) location to pick up the replacement car. Our expenses were promised to be refunded, and a car waiting for us at mentioned location. After 26 hours back in the Drivalia office, we ask for the replacement car and get the information that nobody (from Drivalia) has informed the location about the issue, so they don't have the replacement car the size we ordered. The only option was a small Toyota electric, which we had to take. So having the electric we canceled our plans to travel in more remote areas and stayed in the Edinburgh area for the remaining of time. Finally getting back after the trip, we filed the claim for customer service, for the refund that was promised and of course receive the same PATHETIC costumer service as we had the whole trip. 20 work days later (YEAH this is how long they allow themselves to look into the costumer service issues) I receive no answer nor refund from Drivalia. Calling them back I get the answer yes we have already refunded you, it is again your problem you have received no money and quietly marks the issue "as solved". I contact my back which issues written statement that no refund has been made to the account, forward it Drivalia which is again ignored. Oh well I guess its time to check if costumer rights are well defended by government organizations.

TLDR: AVOID THIS HELL COMPANY AT ALL COSTS

Stay away from this company , foreign tourists especially BEWARE

Stay away from this company , absolute scammers , I paid online for 10 days car hire with my Visa Premier card , then when I arrived in Edinburgh they said they would only accept my card if I took out one of their special excess policy deals at £30 a day !! They refused to give me a car unless I paid £300 extra on top of the £180 I had already paid , complete scammers , I have hired cars all over the planet using my Visa Premier card and never once had a problem . Completely horrible and obnoxious staff who dont care and who are very happy to cheat the unsuspecting tourist. I'm from Scotland so luckily I could tell them where to stick their special excess deal for £300 and phoned a friend to come and pick me up but still left me £180 out of pocket . For foreign tourists arriving at Edinburgh beware this car hire place is 2-3 km from airport in the middle of nowhere , all the other respectable car hire places are together a short walk from airport terminal , avoid these cowboys like the plague.

The car was >2000 miles overdue for service. We had to wait 30 minutes before we even started the registration process. One of the tyres was dangerously low on pressure. On the first day, the rear left tyre deflated, the car has no spare wheel, no jack, no wheel key. BUT it does have a compressor, however the car is not equipped with a 12V socket for the compressor. Your people gave me Mansfield Group's number for recovery services, they do no answer calls. You have caused me undue stress, delay and disappointment. Peter Thomson. +38 050 311 6032. You also advertise the site as Edinburgh Airport, while it is actually located some distance from the airport. Misleading communication of location. The car also has other defects on the front right tyre. This was also photographed today.

Terrible. Huge distance from Edinburgh airport. Need to get a shuttle bus. Nobody in car rental section heard of the company. Took 1 hour to find the bus and 30mins to get there.

Drivalia (Cruella de Vil's Father)

£53 booking magically went to £171 on collection of the car. An extra £1 for the 101 Drivalia de Vil unhappy customers I guess. If you don't have a credit card in your own name (god forbid you have a credit card in a joint name like I did - computer says no apparently) or else you'll be charged at least £30 per day for insurance you don't want or need. Don't be fooled by the cheap prices online.

Run!

It took us over an hour to pick up our car, and in the process, we found out about a hidden extra insurance fee. Despite paying for insurance through Expedia, this company also required more, but didn’t disclose until day of pick up.

Then, after getting our car (which was dirty, dented and had cracks in the windshield), we blew two tires in 24 hours, both on the front left. When I asked the tyre service why, he said it was clear the alignment of the wheels was way off and that was putting unnecessary pressure on the front left. So, reached out to easirent and they told me that it was not covered by that extra insurance. So $500 out right there.

Won’t be surprised if they try and charge me for the dents/cracks from before I even got the car. Will be keeping a very close eye on my credit card statement and will be disputing it all. This is outrageous. DO NOT USE

Dear Customer.
I am sorry if Expedia did not make our requirements clear when you made your booking.
Unfortunately, if you do not purchase tyre cover then you are responsible for repair or replacement of tyres damaged during the course of your hire.
You did not provide any booking information so I am unable to refer to your hire specifically.
With best wishes
Drivalia.
