Expensive rip off fees

Expensive rip off fees. If you want to try to sell a few things cluttering up your garage, do not bother with ebay. The new stuff is cheap tat. People nickname it Flea bay.

Average to great site

Average to great site. If you know how to dodge dodgy sellers.
If you fall for those kind of things, it's your own fault and not the sites. The site is easy to use and the customer service is fantastic. Easy to contact.

Ebay Global Shipping not fit for purpose.

Ebay Global Shipping is not fit for purpose.
It is ripoff expensive, extremely slow, and my experience of the tracking is, it doesn’t work.

I will never purchase anything through eBay that is sent using this useless service.
Ebay seller’s should be telling eBay to sort it, and use other services until it is fit for purpose, your sales will suffer if you don’t.

Global Shipping Programme Ruined Ebay

I've been an active ebay buyer & seller for over a decade. The global shipping programme is an abhorrent system that eBay have introduced that essentially penalises both buyers and sellers from international transactions. As part of the scheme, if you buy things into the UK from e.g the USA, Pitney Bowes, the company that runs the scheme will charge you import VAT. Thats fine. Yet the numbers don't seem to add up. And, critically, they will not issue you with any form of documentation for this. They won't break it down so you have no idea what you are paying for.

There's therefore no way of claiming back any VAT (if you import certain items from the USA the VAT is 5% yet PB will charge you their random % which i can only assume is based on the 20% flat rate, not that it actually calculates like that). In any normal transaction, you can send the receipt to HMRC to get 15% VAT back. Not with the GSP - Pitney Bowes will not provide any documents whatsoever.

I am unsure if its legal to charge VAT and not then provide correct documentation so as to prove the amount charged is fair.

Its utterly disgusting and shows a real contempt for customers.

they say that you can always contact the seller and ask them to list without the GSP. We'll, when there's a fast & competitive auction, the seller is not going to bother. Also many sellers have told me they dont really understand the system so prefer to leave it as is.

I dont mind that i can't transact on some items.. thats just the way it is. What i do mind is the arrogance of Pitney Bowes not providing any documents on the random money they take off you.

Ebay is mostly a junkshop these days

Ebay is mostly a junkshop these days. I bought 20 cat collars on there from China (beware: 'Shoptuny') and sure enough, I get cat collars that could be chained together to tow a Tractor. They were advertised as 'quick release' for 'safety' of your pet!

I inadvertently left positive feedback, which is a first for me, and I notice that they, as a long standing seller, have mostly positive feedback! Both are a mystery. Having checked and re-checked the URL it's not a fake page, this is actually an Ebay original scam!

I've since been offered £5 and £10 as a 'refund' by this scam seller. Because they were bought on Ebay.com I keep chasing up every possible cul de sac in terms of Ebay 'help'. There basically isn't any. I suppose I will have to try PayPal. Ebay has well and truly had it's day. I used to shop on there a lot, but less and less over the years. They have almost completely ruined the model that made it worthwhile.

Don't buy off any Ebay site, cause if its goes wrong, your waiting a long time to get your money back. No guarantee for money spent.

If buying products on Ebay, your best use your debit card, cause if there's an issue with the product and you have paid for it using PayPal, then Ebay will fob you off to PayPal to resolve the issue.
Also when you contact Ebay.ie through there contact and help service on the Irish site it goes through to there English site or .com one and they use that as an excuse to not help you with there issue.
I bought a motorbike pants from a seller on Ebay.ie recently and used the sellers size chart and when the item arrived it was much smaller than it should of been.
After paying for postage and package to have it delivered, the seller refused to accommodate return of the item unless I paid for its return, and the seller then said they would only refund for the item and not the postage or package, which if I had sent back would of cost more than the item.
I made the complaint with Ebay and was told I would have to wait 7 days before they could do anything. I waited the 7 days and they sent me to PayPal instead of refunding me. I ended up having to start the whole complaint process again through PayPal then. Its gonna take me at least a month to get my money back and that's does not even include the money I spent on phone calls to both sites and the time I wasted.
My learning from this is not to buy on Ebay again as they clearly don't look after there customer's or hold the sellers on there site to any terms or conditions with regard to sizing or post and package for items to be returned....

Bought a laptop from a 1000+ good…

Bought a laptop from a 1000+ good feedback UK seller on eBay. eBay now process their seller's shipping using a service called eBay Shutl (Hermes). My package was opened, the contents stolen, then resealed en route by eBay's courier. I provided evidence of this in my eBay Buyer Protection case (Parcel Motel video footage of Hermes courier dropping box to their office and the initial weight stamp of the received box). eBay decided against me as the seller and eBay Shutl had successfully delivered an empty box to me. Their reasoning was that I used a Parcel Motel delivery address, and eBay Buyer Protection doesn't cover any scenarios when the buyer address isn't the home address. Has anyone ever managed to successfully to be protected by eBay Buyer Protection?! I think I must have 4-5 cases where I've been scammed by eBay with this fodder.

Global shipping rip off

Sneaky semi-hidden charge global shipping service, aka pitney bowes, on certain purchases within the EU (free trade) they charge for customs clearance. Anyone who has purchased through ebay, go ahead check your bank account for "pitney bowes" along with that every transaction i make seems to be in sterling and we are euro, more charges! I give up.

Use to love eBay but every purchase has a problem lately. Ebay don't sort any problems out like before. They need to make sellers accountable. Sellers not having items in stock and not telling you until well pass the due delivery date. Sellers stating the item is being posted from the UK but actually they are posting from China.

do not buy used clothing especially…

do not buy used clothing especially womens on ebay. its mostly garbage from thriftstore clearance racks and free piles at yard sales. there are some great deals but the really bad deals cancel them out. there are fabulous treasures of all sorts on ebay, but the unscrupulous sellers with no standards ruin the pleasure of the hunt. i got gorgeous things but i also got things that turned my stomach. if youve got money to gamble and time to spend returning etc, go ahead otherwise, shop locally. shopping on ebay is like shopping in a thriftstore with very very bad lighting. it became far more trouble than its worth. some just honest people just trying to make a living , some not very bright , some perhaps deranged, some just blatantly dishonest. shop in person whenever possible. look them in the eye. touch the stuff.....it is not true that ebay favors buyers over sellers in disputes.. it is absurd to claim that a photograph from a phone gives a clear indication of the condition of an item. no less than 15 mothholes present on a woolen scarf described as perfect and not visible in photograph. another i bought a coach bag described as new, brand new, and then seller revealed, of course , its new, i only used it for six months.... yeah . i closed my account.....the last straw was the 6 yes 6 linen blouses all described as excellent, all resembling well used tea towels....

Ebay used to be easy to list but its changed so much and in my opinion its got harder. This along with fees going up and Ebay taking a percentage of postage fees now too its put me off using them as much. Postage is to pay for exactly what it says and in a lot of cases costs more than i charge ao i lose out both ways then

The Ebay Global Shipping Program is to be avoided. It took almost a month to receive a package that was only going across the Irish sea and on top of that it cost more and the product was damaged when I received it. Then they have the audacity to send me an email trumpeting a successful transaction! No way to make a complaint on their website either. I replied to their email with a complaint but no response.
