Inspiring and curated

I love how different this is from other books! Lots of gorgeous photography, some inspiring stories by Japanese artists, a a selection of places that feels hand picked and leave an impression. It’s a good thing for me because I don’t enjoy clinical guidebooks that I find overwhelming. My only criticism would be that it doesn’t capture price variations by season and a few hotels become more expensive in spring when we went. But we are keeping them in our list for low season as the rest didn’t disappoint! Our favourites were Maana Kyoto and Soki Kanazawa!

One of the most incredible books I’ve…

One of the most incredible books I’ve come across. I originally bought it simply because of its beautiful design, but the content amazed me on an entirely different level. It’s not just a typical coffee table book that’s visually stunning, nor a standard travel guide listing places to visit, things to eat, and sights to see. Instead, it tells the unique stories of each place, its art, culture, and more. Even as someone from Japan, I discovered hidden gems around the country that I had never known before. Every time guests come over and start reading it, they always ask if they can borrow it or take a photo so they can get their own. Truly exceptional journalism.
