Very good experience. My traveler had a great time The only thing that could be improved would be a more diverse group of activities. For example, my traveler went to three separate farms related activities during his tour. Thanks! Jamie

On the second day of our daughters tour she became very sick during the middle of the night with nausea and traveler’s diarrhea. The staff never informed the kids on how or who to contact after hours with emergencies. So my daughter suffered with her illness throughout the night. The next morning she notified the staff of her illness. They had no help for her and just told her they’d stop at a pharmacy on the way to the next town. Feeling horrible, my daughter called me at home crying and wanting to come home. The tour had not provided us with a point of contact, so I called the EF Tours emergency number. They assured me that they would find out what was happening. Shortly thereafter I was called by one of the teachers on the tour. She let me know how my daughter was doing and what they had planned to help her. I was shocked to learn that neither the tour or the hotel had basic first aid supplies to help deal with such a common problem. They would have to ride two hours to the nearest town and would stop at a pharmacy. I was also shocked to learn that the kids had been told that it was ok to drink the tap water out of the sinks. In fact that was their only supply of water. No bottled water was provided! You NEVER drink tap water while traveling internationally, especially in Central America. The tour eventually stopped at a pharmacy where my daughter received medical treatment. The hotels selected by EF Tours did not have air conditioning. The kids were miserable at night. Since doors and windows were open for ventilation, rooms were often subjected to mosquitos. The highlight of the trip were the activities and visits with the local communities. I unfortunately cannot recommend this trip due the the issues that were experienced.

There were a lot of fun activities like zip lining, fancy hot springs, and river rafting, balanced with educational opportunities such as learning about sustainable farming and different species of animals. The students were pushed just out of their comfort levels to use their Spanish with Costa Rican people.
