The cruise was the best part. Just being in the boat and getting off at each island was so beautiful! Anything you could need on the boat was available and staff were so great at both EF and the celestyal staff.
The students wish they had more time in Rome!
Each city and island toured was beautiful and my son did not report ever feeling unsafe in any location. Thanks for choosing places that are safe and interesting!
Banger after banger
Bait and switch! We were told we could get guided tours of the colosseum and Vatican City while in Rome. We got only a guided tour of the perimeter of the colosseum, going inside was not part of our tour. We were not communicated to ahead of time that this was not part of the tour we would receive. We were not able to secure last minute tickets to see it. Vatican City was supposed to be a guided tour. We got a quick overview of the perimeter and was given free time. We were told to dress modest for the Basilica. We were on our own to explore the Basilica. Not knowing that nothing for Vatican was included we could secure tickets to the Sistine Chapel. Both of these places have been on my bucket list since I was a kid. We were told two years prior when we booked we would get tour of these things. I would have never of book this trip or paid what we did to not see these items. With no detailed itinerary or communication of exactly what we would and would not see we were not able to properly plan. We had 46 people on our trip. To say that the entire group was greatly disappointed when leaving Rome is an understatement. I lost trust in the trip and our guide after that first day. I will never book with EF again or go on another tour. I will plan it myself with help from AI. This was my once and a lifetime trip and I didn’t get to see the things promised when booking nor was I comminuted to in a timely manner or at all what the itinerary included and didn’t. I will be going to our school and requesting that we do not use EF for any future travel for our students. I will never get to see these places again. This was my one opportunity to see them and I was only able to see the outside or not at all in the case of the Sistine Chapel.

My daughter recently returned from a two week Educational Tours trip through her high school to Greece, Italy, and Turkey, including a cruise portion. She enjoyed the experience overall. The destinations were incredible and the tour guides were excellent, making the cultural and historical sites engaging and memorable. That said, families should be aware of some drawbacks. The trip was pricey, yet several last-minute changes and logistical challenges made the experience more stressful than expected. For example, instead of flying to the departure airport, our group was bused over three hours, a change communicated at the last minute. Hotel stays throughout Europe were in very basic accommodations, which did not match the price point of the trip. The luggage policies and insurance plan were particularly problematic. Students were told they could only take the small approved carry on for a 14 day trip, which limited packing. When flights were scheduled so close together on the return, my daughter’s luggage did not arrive back in Washington Dulles. Because our group then bused 3.5 hours home, her suitcase containing her entire summer wardrobe (all her shorts and bathing suits) was delayed by a week. When we filed a delayed luggage claim, it was denied. The insurance company (Broadspire Services Inc.) stated that coverage ended the moment the group landed back in the United States, regardless of whether baggage was delivered. In short, while the destinations and guides were a highlight, families should understand that EF reserves the right to change plans with little notice, accommodations are basic, and the insurance may not provide meaningful protection. It is tough to say if we would do this again, but I hope this review helps other families make an informed decision.

It was a great time! We wished the food we got for group meals in Italy were better (it's Italy... come on now), as well as the location of our hotel (no food or restaurants nearby to get anything else if you didn't like dinner). That being said, all of the experiences were incredible. Greece was amazing, and the cruise was a once-in-a-lifetime, gorgeous experience. I will be dreaming of Turkey and Mykonos for the rest of my life. We loved it!

Awesome trip
Great trip with a packed schedule of all the major sites. Wonderful Tour Director that guided us successfully throughout the entire trip without any issues and she made it so fun and interesting.
This was an experience of a lifetime. After teaching the materials for years, seeing it in person was unbelievable.
My kids were kept safe.
Not enough free time on our own. I felt rushed and overwhelmed. Now for the concerns. The food options were extremely repetitive and underwhelming. Specially in Rome. Cheap places and dirty bathrooms. We ate nearly the same meal every day—no real taste of authentic Greek cuisine like gyros or moussaka. It felt cheap and uninspired, especially given the cost of the trip. The hotel choices were also disappointing. Several were located in rough, poorly maintained neighborhoods. We encountered dirty bathrooms, tubs, and even roaches. For the price we paid, better accommodations were expected—even understanding that European standards differ from U.S. ones. The pacing of the itinerary was exhausting, especially for kids. There was little balance between activities and rest. Every day was go-go-go, with not enough time to actually enjoy or absorb the experience. The kids were bored, and many adults were overwhelmed. Today’s students need a mix of fun and structure, not just back-to-back history stops.
While we truly enjoyed the travel experience with EF Tours and are grateful for the opportunity to explore new places, we were deeply disappointed by the behavior of our chaperones, the Dirkswagers. It became clear that they were more focused on enjoying a free vacation than fulfilling their responsibilities to the students. There were multiple instances of negligence, including when a student was stopped, searched, and patted down by TSA at the airport with no chaperone present to support her—a moment when adult supervision was absolutely necessary. On several occasions, the Dirkswagers showed up to room checks visibly intoxicated, and one night on the cruise, they were too impaired to communicate a clear curfew. Despite their failure to give instructions, they still performed room checks and disciplined students, creating confusion and unfair consequences due to their own lack of communication. This pattern of behavior—marked by poor judgment, impatience, and frequent intoxication—made students feel unsupported and often unsafe. We hope EF Tours takes these concerns seriously and ensures future chaperones meet the standards of professionalism and responsibility that parents and students rightfully expect.
Value was fantastic. Our tour leader, Francesco, was the absolute best. Anyone who should get him as a tour leader is extremely lucky. My only issue was the tour was tagged with the Basilica and due to timing, the new Pope and 25 year celebration we did not get to see St Peter’s. We took the whole family. This trip would not have been possible without the opportunity EF gave us. Greatly recommended, especially Francesco!!!
