Horrific Electric Ireland Experience

I moved into an apartment two weeks ago and am still waiting for Electric Ireland to set up my gas account. There was an existing prepay gas account at the apartment and I wanted to transition it to an Electric Ireland bill pay account (along with my electricity account).

I have been on the phone with them many times since moving in, and until today nobody was able to help set up my gas account - and now I have to wait another two weeks for things to be set up - and based on my experience with their customer service representatives I am not at all convinced that things will go smoothly.

My experience has been horrific. I have been on calls, that have lasted up-to two hour (much of which was spent on hold), trying to get the bill pay gas account set up. I have been sent to call Gas Networks Ireland about the GPRN, and from there back to Electric Ireland multiple time. I was told on two occasions that a technician would arrive on two separate days to switch provider, but on both occasions nobody arrived, and Gas Networks Ireland had no record of any appointment for a technician to be sent to the address to make the switch.

The level of incompetence is staggering. It appears that nobody I talked to with respect to the gas account knew what the procedure was. And nobody still seems to be either able to - or even want to - help me resolve this. I am being forced to wait for (in total) four weeks for my gas account to be set up with Electric Ireland, all the while putting money onto the existing prepay gas account.

I have the names of most of the people I have talked to, and the times of all calls logged. I will update this later if I have not received satisfaction with more details and noted relating to the calls, the length of holds, and the directions given to me by the Electric Ireland call centre staff.

And I am considering a move to another provider, but I am not sure that any of the other providers will be able to set this up any quicker.

We are at a point in this country where all providers are equally rubbish - and I don't just mean gas and electricity. They care not for the customer's experience, and only care about profits. It is truly a sorry state to find ourselves in.

I cannot - based upon my recent experience -recommend Electric Ireland. I am going to look into a transition to another provider.

If I could give Electric Ireland zero…

If I could give Electric Ireland zero stars I would.
We switched to Bord Gais when our contract ended with Electric Ireland.
The switch took two weeks. Electric Ireland sent me a bill from the 2nd of February to the 26th of February for €414.78. Absolute robbery and we also have 17 solar panels on our house so for just over three weeks that’s how much they charged us! Avoid Avoid Avoid!!!!

Over 2 years expirience

Been with Electric Ireland for over 2 years now and never had a trouble. Once first year passed their rewards team got in touch to set a better contract and get more benefits. Have a smart meter so no worries when it comes to accuracy and for gas account i just submit the read through the app. Customer service is hit and miss, the same as if you go to any shop, but if you follow up few times issue gets resolved so thats the main thing. Comfortable here and not planning on changing supplier.

Lawsuit

Warning!!!!! I would like to warn everyone who would like to open an account with Electric Ireland. Unfortunately, they robbed me of over 900 euros because I was ignored when I received an inflated gas bill. I talked to one of their representatives to whom I explained the problem that the meter in my apartment had been read incorrectly and the numbers were very low, which later resulted in high consumption and a huge bill. After talking to the representative, he assured me that the matter would be taken care of by the administration, the bill would be suspended and someone from the company would contact me to tell me what happened after the analysis. Unfortunately, no one contacted me, the money was withdrawn from my account and I have no money to buy food. The case will probably end up in court and I will demand compensation, compensation and termination of the contract with the supplier who scams its customers.

They need investigating

Worst company ever and as for their Customer Charter. That's hilarious. Seriously they need a good firm of investigators to look into complaints made against them as they just ignore you in the hope you'll go away. I'll pay the exit few just to get away from them. AVOID this company

Excessive rates per Kw/hr unit.

Let's be honest! Electric Ireland are taking the complete mickey here with cost per unit of Electric energy. Electric Ireland cannot make excuses or justify ripping people off. Customers paying these rates are stupid for not changing providers. Electric Ireland Currently have the highest rates in the Country.

Know your electric usage before moving

So I was with Electric Ireland and my bill kept growing and growing as the rates increased. My house has something always going in it as my elderly parents one of whom had a stroke requires electric chair, bed, mattress going. So my consumption was also growing… after reading in the papers about better rates, I moved to Flogas, the bill got larger than EI and Flogas have zero analysis of the bill. They tell you to go to ESB networks!! so after a month I moved to Yuno. Their analytics of usage is good and have an app. The tarrif was fixed but although my usage was stable, EI night time rate with booster worked out cheaper. Yuno was good but the fixed rate actually increased my bill by 200 euros a month. I am back with EI and I have to run all the washing machines, dryers after 11pm, water heater comes on at 2am to take advantage of the lowest rate, which is a burden but what to do. Don’t believe “the lowest rate”, this is not always the case. You have to check your usage and more importantly when you run your appliances. My bill is the lowest with EI, even paying the cancellation fees of 50 euros from Flogas and Yuno. Analytics with EI is good, when the portal is “showing” data.

Very expensive tariff compared to rivals.

Very poor customer service, tariff very expensive compared to rival firms, discount which should have been applied at the beginning of our contract was not applied. We ended up paying a significant amount more over our contract compared to if we had been with other companies all in all very poor customer experience.

Impossible bills and deliberate extortion

I have been getting outrageous bills over the past year with Electric Ireland and the latest one is just mind blowing! I got a bill on January 15, 2024 charging me for the period from December 2023 to January 29, 2024. How can I be charged for the future? On 15/01/24 I am charged 800+ euros to pay for usage up to 29/01/24 which is in the future and I paid. Now my contract expired on 02/02/24 and Switched to a different electric supplier on 5/02/24 and today 16/02/24 electric Ireland has sent me a bill of almost 400euros which I don't understand in this bill the details are missing, no billing dates periods mentioned they just wrote 24days meanwhile even from 29/01/24 to 16/02/24 is not 24days. Tell me how this makes sense, because it's hard to understand.
If electric Ireland was the only supplier I would rather live in darkness for the rest of my life. The company just quotes unimaginable prices. Never again

Absoulutely appalling

Absoulutely appalling. I just went to try and top up online like I do every week. However, after putting in my bank details to pay I got a message in red stating that the transaction had failed and any money taken would be refunded back to my bank account within 3-5 days. So I logged into my online banking and money had indeed been taken for the transaction, but I received no topup code and I'm now currently in emergency. Electric Ireland seem to think that this is ok for customers to sit in the dark until the money is refunded to retry again. I am not very happy. This is totally unacceptable to take money, but give no electricity code, then expect people to wait for their money to be refunded. Please sort this out Electric Ireland. Thank you.

My PAYG bills suddenly went through the…

My PAYG bills suddenly went through the roof towards the end of 2022. I called numerous times and in April 2023 they said go to bill pay and you save 7%. In august I received a bill €1836. I called and said that seems quite high. They said that was wrong then sent me a credit note of €1699. I called them back and said so I owe you the balance then right? They said of the newest bill is already sent. Next bill came in at €2335. This bill was from 5/4/23 - 30/8/23. I had already €420 of electric on PAYG in April. So in total in 148 days they said I had actually used €4121. This was the start of September. They suggested I had issues with my meter as that bill seemed extreme and would send ESB out to check meter. Fast forward to mid dec and many other calls and my bill currently standing and many many thousands they eventually sent ESB out who has been baffled as the meter was showing no faults and the electrican who came in has found no electrical leak either. I have had SO many calls to electric Ireland telling them I had called to say I was struggling with my bills and one of the last calls I was told because I have a fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer that I have an abnormal amount of electrical appliances so now wonder my bill is so high. They also informed me that I am an the worst plan they have and I should swap to PAYG to save 5%. This after them telling me to swap to bill pay to save 7%. When I call they are rude, never call back when promised and now cut me off when I give my account number. At present I owe the. €4330 so living the dream with these folk. Don’t use them. They don’t want help, they just want money.

Absolutely one of the worst…

Absolutely one of the worst organisations ireland has to offer as a customer I can honestly say I have never dealt with such poor service I rang to look to get a new property we purchased electricity switched back on from the from poor operators customer service was awful not abit helpful they gave me the complete run around to be told an engineer would call out to which they did not call out then to be told they called on a withheld number so no way in calling the engineer back, to be told they left a card saying they called to the property which they did not has having people present at property did not see any engineer call, then to be told that they could issue another appointment it would have to be done by the electricity provider probably the worst ever provider let's hope ireland gets a different eletric system provider soon

Misleading and incorrect information displayed on their dashboard

This company made an error with the way that they displayed information on the dashboard as it pertains to the government credit that is afforded all residents. On their online Dashboard, in personal accounts, there was a clear indication that accounts were in credit and the dashboard stated clearly that there was no bills to pay. Without providing the public any information on this, the government credit wasn’t to apply until a later date and electric Ireland didn’t know how to handle this in their system. This resulted in accounts being both in credit and in arrears at the same time. When addressing this with them, they provided no satisfactory response, and have left my and other peoples accounts in this uncertain state, while placing the extra fees on their customers, as a result of their own blunders. I will be leaving promptly from the service: as you can see by the previous reviews here both their customer service and their platform really have no idea about how to manage a modern company and handle customer interactions.

The reason they do not bother with any of this is because they feel that they are such an established company here that they don’t actually try to win customers over. They are going to find out at some stage that things are changing and they’re going to get out performed by a company doing their job properly.
