Disgraceful business
I was interested in getting a bird and looked at many different shops. I decided to go to enjoy parrots for my bird most of the reviews I saw seemed positive on the first few pages (I did not look further and later regret that). I went to enjoy and spent more than an hour looking to find the perfect bird. Eventually I found a sweet lorikeet I fell in love with. I paid almost 500 euro for him not including the extra things I bought(toys, custom made perch by enjoy parrots, food, cups, perches, and travel cage). Before I left they clipped his wings and signed a warranty life contract with me which at the time made me feel more comfortable in my purchase. After two weeks I decided Neo (my lorikeet) would feel nicer in a bigger cage I went online and bought a Montana bird cage for €380 euro. Everything was going well I kept track of his weight daily. His weight was normal until a month after I got him. One day I took him out to weigh him and his weight had dropped drastically. I called enjoy parrots immediately as the contract says they asked I take him in to them so I did. After a day I called them (they did not reach out) and said Neo needed to go to the vet and gave me a phone number. When I picked him up he was covered in his liquid food mix and his carrier like it had been shaken even the vet was concerned when I arrived and asked what happened I had to explain this is how my bird was given back to me. Neo was taken into care his health quickly deteriorated on oxygen and an IV also given lots of medicine to help and under constant observation with heat. He stayed four days and passed away afterwards. I called enjoy parrots to give details of everything they were very cold and not caring their response was “Since they do not know the cause of death they can not replace him for a new bird or reimburse me for the costs of him”. Afterwards I contacted the vet to do an autopsy on Neo to satisfy the contract. The autopsy showed a weakened bird the specialist felt it could be a disease but would have to send his organs away to test. I couldn’t financially cover that and declined. They also noted there was nothing wrong with the birds leg (enjoy parrots had said it looked broken) and it was possibly part of the disease neurologically. The total cost of the vet bill was €600 euro. Yesterday I called enjoy parrots to explain the autopsy and ask for a replacement bird or reimbursement of my funds as I followed the contract 100 percent. Enjoy parrots responded they would not reimburse my funds or replace the bird as it was given in healthy conditions (which is irrelevant to the contract), enjoy parrots also claimed to raise the bird and put the death of the bird on me (also not true as a colleague has stated they got a bird a month before I bought it), enjoy parrots faulted me for not contacting sooner (I contacted the day he was sick and dropped weight, all days previously he had healthy weight), there was no compassion or sympathy towards me or the bird from enjoy parrots during this conversation and when I told them about the vet examination (and emailed proof) they said it was not enough for them and I still broke the contract when I did not. Because of the autopsy I had to have my bird disposed by the vet I could no longer cremate him as I wanted to or see him one last time. This experience has been very emotional for me and mentally traumatic. I will be reporting this business to De Geschillencommissie, The NVWA, and The ACM. I advise anyone else with similar issues who has also followed their contract 100 percent to do the same and for anyone looking for a bird avoid this place at all costs.
⭐️Weight was recorded always. The one day the weight dropped I called immediately, weight chart was shown in person and disregarded saying a fall caused weight loss and not eating. He was a healthy weight until that day. I have a photo of the new cage showing easy access on the Google review. I have evidence to support my review. I also found the reply the business gave on Google misleading and nasty during my time of loss and am shocked at the lack of accountability.
