Problems with the return function on the Etsy website.

The issue I experienced was with the Etsy platform itself, not the seller.

I had concerns about a product and contacted the seller directly. They were cooperative and offered me a refund. However, in order to proceed, I needed to submit a return request through Etsy. Unfortunately, this option was not available on the platform. Although the FAQ section clearly describes how to request a return, in reality, these features were not accessible.

I tried using different devices as well as the Etsy app, but nothing worked. After that, I contacted customer support. Neither the chatbot nor the support agents I spoke with were able to help. Instead, they suggested opening a case against the seller, even though I had no complaints about the seller at all.

When I eventually opened a case and explained the situation again, Etsy started asking me for proof that the product was defective. However, that was not the issue. The real problem is that the platform does not provide basic functionality for buyers, and they seem unwilling to acknowledge this. The communication from their side was also quite rigid and unhelpful.

This was my first and will definitely be my last time using Etsy.

Horrible customer service

They do not have a call centre. I made a spelling error and it took hours and two days to try to correct it. They use an AI program and have terrible service. This will stop me from purchasing any more products from them. The need a much better customer service program. No one needs to spend days trying to fix a spelling mistake

Etsy has officially abandoned its 'Handmade' mission in favor of broken automation and a 1.5-star user experience. While the site is overrun with dropshipped 'slop,' legitimate UK artisans are being shadow-suppressed by malfunctioning AI metadata. When a platform's own technology can't distinguish a ceramic jar from a cup, and their customer service is purely bot-driven, the marketplace has failed.

I have been forced to audit 68+ listings manually just to correct the 'fake' descriptions Etsy’s AI generated for my products. The drop in search visibility is not due to market trends, but to a platform that is structurally incapable of maintaining its own data integrity. Truly the 'Enshittification' of a once-great site.

Etsy is deceitful

I just tried to buy 2 pairs of shoes. Listed as $34.95 each plus a,10% discount. I go to check out i see $68.99 plus tax and shipping. Reasonable rates for both. After I put my credit card information in i see my order is now $158.99 and it was too late to stop the purchase. My purchases were changed to the tune of about $90.00 more. The new prices were UK prices. Which means the price would be lower as the American dollar is weak right now. Plus the shipping changed to $79.99, I was mislead by Etsy. They actually changed the total amount due after receiving my credit card information. I mmessaged the seller, I was very firm. I told Etsy that I wanted an immediate refund to my credit card. I'm frustrated and I don't trust Etsy one bit. I've shopped at Etsy once before. The company with gift boxes for sick people sent the box very quickly and the gift was as pictured. I've ordered 2 pairs of shoes before this and am awaiting them. I also ordered 2 very expensive dresses and have heard nothing about the dresses. The prices were accurate with those purchases. I'm awaiting my previous order with baited breath. I will be watching closely for my refund for the recent purchases.

Had an awful experience in buying from UrbanReclmation through Etsy.

I'd suggest you look elsewhere or save your money.

I bought three shelves for my kitchen from this seller.

Upon discovering there was a huge crack across both sides of one of the shelves I contacted him. He would not replace it. He will argue with you instead of replacing the faulty product, even though the product proved it was not fit for purpose.

Let's put it this way, if I were to sell one of my paintings to go on your lounge wall and the canvas deteriorated in your room in no time, who would be at fault.

Etsy said I was out of time, yet this is furniture and if it fails or prices to Bevan inferior product, then I should have some recourse surely. As it was I didn't have chance to put them up because I had to deal with an incurable cancer diagnosis - which is being managed. Poor afters sales and a pure rip off

Don’t buy digital downloads from Etsy!

Was looking for poster art for No Kings protest. Found an image I liked. Site advertised instant download. After a couple of hours of emails, trying to follow their help (not helpful at all) instructions and being taken in an endless loop (the screen shots for which I still have), I gave up. The purchase was for only $3 so i decided it wasn’t worth another second of my time. There is no help from Etsy. Their help FAQs do not work. I’ve never bought any actual hard goods from them, but don’t recommend buying digital art downloads. Thankful I’m only out $3 and a couple of wasted hours. The creator/seller tried to help, so I’m not mentioning him here, but it was too little too late.

Never purchase from Addy. She is sneaky, she's a thief, and a liar.

I was browsing and place a dress in the cart to look at later. The next thing I know I received a big ugly red dress that I never ordered. The refused to give my money back. I didn't even order the first dress because I wanted to see something I liked better and I did and I ordered it. I loved it. I had no idea that If you put an item in the cart to look at later someone could take your money. I received a huge red and yellow ugly dress in the mail. Now I'm confused, because I know I have never seen this ugly thing in my life. It was was made for Geno the Giant not for me. I'm 5" maybe 1 " tall and petit. I'm on a fixed income and cannot afford to give away $80. They will not give me my money. I'm stuck with this monstrosity and out of $80 I had to eat oodles of noodles so I could purchase my medication. I have never experienced this from Etsy before this. If you send someone the wrong item and still lie about you made a dress especially for me then you are poor soul that will pay when you take from the elderly.

Deplorable ethics - fraudulent sellers

Deplorable ethics. The seller clearly exploited Etsy policies. Lots of excuses as to why the lamp wasn’t arriving. I was not in a rush so was very understanding and patient. Finally it arrives and it’s nothing like the photo or description on the site but when I complain I find that it’s been over 100 days since I purchased it and therefore Etsy won’t help me despite the fact it’s clearly misrepresented. The seller had also offered me a discount along the way but obviously that never showed up either. Customer service at Etsy completely uninterested that they have fraudulent sellers on their site. This was an expensive item. I will not be purchasing anything over $20 from them again.

Honestly, dealing with Etsy’s so-called “buyer protection” has been a complete joke. I opened a case with clear, detailed evidence—photos, messages, timelines, everything you could possibly need to understand the situation—and somehow they still managed to close it in favor of the seller. It honestly feels like none of the information I provided was even looked at.

The decision made absolutely no sense based on the facts. The seller failed to meet basic expectations, yet Etsy just brushed it aside like it didn’t matter. What’s the point of having a resolution system if it ignores valid proof and sides arbitrarily?

This experience has completely destroyed my trust in Etsy as a platform. Buyers are clearly not protected here, no matter how strong your case is. It feels unfair, dismissive, and incredibly frustrating to be ignored like this.

If this is how disputes are handled, I would seriously think twice before buying anything from Etsy again. You have been warned!

Received an ebook via email rather than the hard copy the advert looks like.

Received an ebook via email - not the book I believed I was ordering. The advert was very misleading (not stating anywhere it was an ebook) and to add insult to injury, customer services emailed and asked for a positive review - stating that many reviews left weren’t good. It even took 5 days for the email to arrive suggesting further I was receiving the hard copy the advert represents. The only reason they are getting a 1 star review is because there is not a zero or a negative number. I will never use them again …. Very very poor all round !!!

Etsy does not support the seller.

Was such a pleasure to be with Etsy but as of recent I’ve learned that they refuse to help sellers.
I’ve had such honest buyers but when I had guests damage inventory and send it back, Etsy sided with the buyer and will go directly in your account and return the money. They will not even respond to you as it is all tailored to bring the buyer back.
Gearing up to leave Etsy now as I don’t want to support dishonest, stock holder butt kissers.

Very bad experience.

I signed up as a seller on Etsy and paid the registration fee.
After that, they closed my store without a clear reason.

I contacted them several times, but only received automated replies saying they don’t accept sellers from India—even though I’m based in Japan.

After I followed up again, someone replied once and told me to check the Help Center. Since then, they won’t respond anymore.

This has been a very frustrating experience. They took the registration fee and then closed my store without proper support or explanation.

I absolutely love Etsy and have bought some amazing gifts for friends and family.

BUT, I would not recommend ever buying a download of a pattern. The download could be a blank piece of paper and you will have no comeback. Those are the rules. I bought a knitting pattern and it didn’t make a jot of sense. The pattern was useless.

Bought a leather jacket from a supplier on Etsy. I had to laugh when I opened the box it wasn't even real leather. Etsy couldn't give a toss and blocked me. If Etsy continue to use rogue, corrupt traders their selling days are numbered. They must share a board with Cadburys and Nestle.
