SCAM!! Stay away!

Hello,
please stay away from this rental car company. In the beginning they as frequently known try to sell you another insurance for your car. If you have one stay away!
Next our car got damaged on the highway, it just stopped going forwards. Well, how europcar heraklion told you, just call them and they will help you. No, of course not. They gave me a phone number of a towing service. The towing service lady couldn´t talk any english and even with help of greek people we asked at the streets the lady didn´t want to send a towing service in the end. Just to clarify, it was me, my girlfriend and her 8 year old daughter sitting on the edge of the highway at 11 pm. Then i eventually called Europcar Heraklion again to ask for further help, but they said they can´t do anything else. After all i had to call Europcar Athens to actually got a towing service to pick the car up.

The next day I called Europcar Heraklion again to ask for help so we could get another car, so we could get to the airport two days later. Surprise, they couldn`t help.
I then called Europcar Chania, which was closer to get a new car. They immediately assured us to get a new car.
In Chania they charged us immediately the insurance self excess and then handed us the new car.

Three days after returning to Germany Europcar Heraklion charged over 500 Euro unauthorized and just sent me the invoice of the damage. It was a gear damage, clearly not caused by me using the car over a week. At the same time they told me i had to pay for all the damage, because this is not an insurance case, even though i paid the self excess already in the first place... Makes sense right?

So in conclusion this is us a small family of two ICU nurses working hard every day to save human lives, getting completely treated disgraced and cheated on for more than 1000 euros!

I will make this public as much as I can to help people stay away from this company!!!

Unbelievably bad experience.

Unbelievably bad experience.

I come to pick up a car I've pre-booked. Audi A1, but they tell me don't have it. So they offer an upgrade, but to manual gear shift. I don't want to kick up a fuss.

Come to the car pick up, they say it is on the wash, and I have up wait a few minutes. I wait for 40 minutes. I then lost patience and ask about the progress of the wash. He checks and conclude, they don't actually have it. They then come and say they don't actually have it. So he offers me a Peugeot 208 instead, which is twice as cheap on their website?

I tell them I want s refund. Magically on my way out, the car they promised me showed up! It was there all the time.

This was in Lisbon airport.

Car Rental in Hamburg

I rented a car in Hamburg from 30.7.2024 till 20.8.2024.

Even if the car was returned fully fueled, after the rental my credit card was charged with 176,50 € for "fuel and service".

After a long email exchange with the customer service I only got 53,56 € reimbursed.

I will definitely not rent any more from Europcar!

Europcar Glasgow were outstanding

Europcar Glasgow were outstanding. I had been refused my prepaid rental car by another company as I only had my credit card on Apple Pay and a debit card with me. These were not accepted by them. I was in a hurray as I had a ferry crossing booked so limited time to get to Oban. Patrick at Glasgow Airport Europcar was wonderful. He had an available car and expedited the process of the hire. The car itself was great. Clean and included built in satnav.
I can highly recommend them.

I'm gonna give one star because I…

I'm gonna give one star because I cannot write a review with giving a 0 star.

Absolutely awful experience ! Walk away from this company and if you are still motivated to go with them, I would not recommend you to deal with EWAN who has clearly abused of our trust and lied to us without blinking an eye !

He "offered us" an upgrade on our original vehicle, without specifying this will trigger higher "Premium insurance" that we did not need as we booked through our Gold Mastercard which includes rental car insurance as long as everything is paid with it. We took it as he was doing us a gesture.

Only realised that we had that extra cost to pay when we were about to return the car (Ewan was really good at pointing out the spaces to sign on the contract but not at going through the details of the price/cost which are written in tiny characters, of course).

We discussed this when we turned the car and EWAN went to the back office behind the desk pretending he was phoning one of his managers and came back telling us everything was sorted and that we will get a refund within 4 to 10 days for the extra cost of the Premium insurance. He looked at us in the eyes my wife and myself, said "this is not something we would normally do but we are making an exception for you but you have to take good care of me by giving me the highest score on the satisfactory survey". We were ready to do so but as we never received the refund and after contacting Europcar customer service got told that this will not happen and that they could only rely on physical evidence (signed invoice).

Indeed we should have read more carefully the contract, and we accept this but we don't accept the way we have been tricked and also that EWAN lied right in our faces while we had decided to be honest and to trust him !

Walk away from this dishonest practices !

The customer service is horrible

The customer service is horrible. My car broke the first day of renting it, and it was hell to change it and get a refund for the problem. I lost SO MUCH TIME! Not recommending them.
They also charged me an illegal 50 euros fee for picking up the car late, despite the plane being late.
Despite only being able to drive one day out of five, I only got refunded 1 day. What a Joke. Mr Hernando from customer service needs to change his job. I am happy to give the case number.

I was planning to rent more with them because of the prices, but it is not going to happen.

Big Scam

I rented a car at a very expensive price compared to the website because no options were offered to me. The car smelled of smoke, it was very difficult to operate because everything was electric, the fuel was not full and when I returned to show them the fuel gauge they told me no problem we will record it on the computer. After a few days I returned the car with extra 10 euros to be sure no one charge me bothers, and they charged me 54 euros after I back to my country, I returned the car with more fuel than I received and they charge me more and more money, after a lot of persuasion and checks (luckily i took a photos) they agreed to return 70% of the charged money but because of the currency exchange I lost a lot of money from this thing and I told them and they’re no answer at all.
In a good business they would offer me a good price, good service, a good car and a good feeling.
Also the paper to rent a car was in German language and many scratches and I had to say yes yes to everything because I dont read German.
Very poor service.
Very bad experience.
This is not the way to make money on innocent people because you have credit card for secure.

SCAM. They will always find a reason to steal your money

SCAM.
1st time I rent a vehicle, they charge me 500e for dammages. Hopefully I took pictures to prove that the dammages were already here when I rented. After a long fight, they finally refunded me.
2nd time I rent a vehicle, they charge me 300e for crossing border (it's written NOWHERE that you cannot cross the border, they even ask you to tick a checkbox linking to a Terms page saying that you CAN cross border within Europe except in a few countries). And they charged me 13% because I rented in a train station (same, this fee is written NOWHERE). Also they applied those 13% of the total price (including the 300e penalty above) even if they Terms say that it should not include any charge, dammage or fee. So it should have been 6e instead of 57e.
I'm fighting with the customer service, they don't want to give me any information, I only get an automatic message keeping redirecting me to a mediator website, even tho this mediator cannot help me because my case is not compliant.
So basically, Europcar steal your money, they dont explain why, they dont want to talk about it, and you need to fight hoping to get your money back. Everyone knows that they are thief but nobody helps you... I need to be in touch with a lawyer. Sush a shame

Got downgraded

Rented a Seat Tarraco through holidayautos.com at europcar in flensburg. Got a confirmation from europcar.
Arrived, ready for holiday and they didnt have the car. They wouldnt upgrade us as we were going to Italy. We had to choose a smaller car. We got a 10 percent discount. The car had a faulty cruise control/automatic brake and we had to turn back to flensburg again after driving 15 km. The staff suggested that we took the car to a repair shop but we asked for a different car. We then had to choose an even smaller car. After 700 km that cars engine light came on. I contacted europcar that said I could drive until the light became red and then it would have to be towed. I didnt want to do that and we asked for another exchange in rosenheim. Got an almost new estate with enough room. Cars break down, it happens but dont rent out cars you cant deliver.

Unbelievably Poor Service - Avoid Europcar Mallorca!

**Title: Unbelievably Poor Service - Avoid Europcar Mallorca!**

On July 3rd, we reserved two cars with Europcar in Mallorca. Upon arrival at the Europcar stand, we were advised that it would be more convenient to take one larger car instead. We agreed and upgraded to a bigger vehicle. To our shock, just a few hours later, our credit card was charged a 95€ NO SHOW FEE, despite us being there and merely switching to a larger car.

We contacted their hotline and even went back to the airport stand, where we were given written confirmation that the money would be refunded. It has now been three weeks, and absolutely nothing has happened. This has been the worst rental experience we've ever had. Save yourself the headache and avoid Europcar at all costs!

Eine Rechnung über € 500,-- nach der…

Eine Rechnung über € 500,-- nach der Erklärung, warum mein Mann die letzten Meter in die Garage am Flughafen Malta fahren musste.

Subject: Explanation Regarding Rental Car Use

Dear Mr. Caruana Christian,

I rented the car from July 7th to July 14th, 2024, and drove it myself for the entire week. Our daughter, who is 17, is doing a 12-week internship on Gozo. To visit her during this week, I rented the car. My other kids do not have driving licenses yet. My husband only arrived on Thursday night due to work commitments. I always drove because I had no issues with left-hand traffic and was very familiar with the area. My husband was always just a passenger. On our return trip, we were under a lot of stress to return the vehicle by 1:00 PM. We missed one ferry and took the next one at 11:30 AM. We also needed to refuel the car. Under stress, I often feel nauseous as I had kidney cancer 11 months ago and had half of my left kidney removed. I became unwell and my husband drove the remaining distance to the Europcar garage. This is not my first rental car; normally, I always register two drivers. However, this was not necessary as I was alone with my children for 5 out of the 8 days. I apologize for the situation, but it was an emergency and I hope for your understanding.

Kind regards, Bettina

Would you be so kind as to explain to us what happened and the reason that a third party drove the car?

Avoid Ansbach Europcar! Fraud!!

I booked Europcar Automatic Hyundai Kona couple of days before pickup. It was because of promotion came to my search on booking.com. Booking was confirmed, everything was fine until we reached europcar Ansbach to pickup the car. At the pickup date, when we reached Europcar, there was no car available except only one dirty Manual Transmission, which employee started cleaning. There were no any Automatic car available within 50 KM radius. Why do you confirm something if you can't supply? It is my 2nd such experience with Europcar, while I did bookings with enterprise, SIXT I have never faced any difficulties.

Never ever use europcar, instead book 50 more euros expensive SIXT and others.

Avoid Mallorca europcar

If you visit a Europcar branch, please record the entire conversation on your phone, so you have some proof in case they try to scam you. Our original car rental for five days was supposed to cost 160 €, but with all the extra charges, it ended up costing 500 €. Our deposit was just added to the rental, and the contract terms were changed. It's simply unbelievable! The subsequent conversation with them was terrible, condescending, and blaming me. Please record your conversation.

Really good car rental

Really good car rental, helped us a lot, booked the car too late during landing and we got to pick it up earlier with a small fee, and also had it day longer. Car was great, hybrid and really no gas spend at all 🎉 thanks! Recommended

Europcar did it again...

Rented a car from them at the Munich Airport for 29 days last year. A year later, almost to the day, I receive a letter from an American collection agency, dated 2024-06-25 informing me that I owe them $777.59 usd.
A "reprinted" invoice shows additional charges for a "premium station surcharge" in the amount of Euro 450.50 and a fuel charge of Euro 117.67 even though I made damn sure I returned that vehicle with a full tank. Went as far as topping it off 5 miles from the airport upon return. They tried similar tactics on me years before, once in Venice, Italy and in Paris, France. Thanks to the intervention of my bank the charges were reversed in both cases. This time I'll take it to court if necessary.

Europcar Malta - AVOID

Malta airport Europcar. Pickup at 4:00am was faultless, the plane was delayed but staff were there to meet us, the car itself was excellent, it was only when returning the car the issues started. We dropped the car back at approx. 10:45pm, handed the keys in and asked if there was anything else we needed to do, 'no' was the answer. There was only one member of staff in the office so no chance of looking at the car whilst we were there.
When we landed, an email had been sent saying there was damage on the car, I replied with photos we had taken showing there was no damage when we dropped the car off. The car was checked and pictures were taken 6 hours after we had handed in the keys, and was told the car was our responsibility until they had done their checks, unfortunately we were already on a plane.
Even though we sent photos proving there was no damage when we returned it they still charged.
