AVOID!!!

AVOID. Professional scammers. The company refused our car for being 59 mins late from the estimated "collection time" due to a delayed flight. This was despite us notifying them of the delay c 8 hours prior. Reviews in the public domain confirm this as standard practice for exer in thessaloniki. AVOID!!!

Rip off on the Security Bond

The main issue is that they rely on the car rental companies they subcontract out their business too. In my case Exer Rent a Car in Istanbul although the sign on the business was called York Car Rental at Sabiha Gokcen airport.
They charge you 100EUR security bond to cover tolls you accumulate over the hire period , and are then supposed to deposit the leftover money back into your account.
I only received 10EUR back which means I was charged 90EUR for going through maybe 6 tolls on my travels. This would make Turkey the most expensive country for tolls in the world, which I highly doubt it is.
When I asked for the details or individual transactions to account for the period of time of the car hire, they kept fobbing me off.
It’s price gouging plain and simple, they take advantage that you are no longer in the country that you hired the car from

Shakedown for hidden fees

Shakedown for hidden fees.

Our flight was delayed and when we arrived at the office to get our car we were told we must pay an extra 40eur due to it being an “after hours” pick up. The booking site says the office is in the airport, it’s not. It’s a 10 min walk away. We had communicated our flight plan ahead of time and of course had no control over our flight delays. We were never warned of this fee, the woman at the desk told us to pay it or we can’t get a car. 40 extra eur for events outside our control is horrible business. NEVER RENT FROM THESE SCAMMERS.

I rent a car in santorini in september
I had a great experience with this car rental service. Everything went very smoothly from start to finish. The team was extremely kind and welcoming. The service was excellent, with a warm and courteous reception. I really appreciated the professionalism and friendliness. Highly recommended

scammers

We booked through the Discover Cars website with a credit card that covered the required deposit. When we got there, they scammed us into spending an additional 600 euros. They offered no other options and deceptively charged the credit card for a higher amount than they stated. They are terrible, complete scammers. Never again

Very good experience

Very good experience. I rented a car in July 2025 at the Kefalonia airport. The staff at the airport was efficient and friendly. Quick and hassle-free pick-up and drop-off. The deposit is a bit high (€800), but everything was clearly stated in advance, and after a quick check-up upon returning the car, it was returned without any problems.

Abbiamo prenotato tramite Booking

Abbiamo prenotato una macchina tramite Booking con EXER a Kos. Io molto prevenuto..per le recensioni lette, e anche per esperienze precedenti in Italia, che non commento quì, ma mi sembrava una delle migliori.
Qualcuno segnalava problemi con lo sblocco dei 900 euro della cauzione.
La nostra esperienza: Arrivati a Kos alle 20.30 era già buio, la macchina non si vedeva nemmeno bene quante sbucciature e graffi avesse, l'operatore ha fatto delle foto alla macchina io ho fatto le mie foto, il mio video, fra l'altro ho notato dopo che aveva una piegatura da piede di porco allo sportello di guida e quello posteriore, lui non ha segnalato la cosa, io nemmeno, però ho fatto le foto.
Siamo andati via in 10 minuti l'operatore simpaticamente ha detto: All OK Mr. the car is your.
Al nostro rientro era ancora giorno, ha fatto un giro dell'auto, e mi ha detto All OK Mr.
Mi ha sbloccato immediatamente i 900 euro.. e Good Bye...
Non avevo fatto nemmeno la assicurazione, di solito insistono per fartela, stavolta non ce l'ha nemmeno proposta.
La vettura non era nuova, aveva 60000 Km ma si è comportata benissimo. Siamo soddisfatti.

We booked a car through Booking with EXER in Kos. At first, I was quite skeptical because of some reviews I had read and also due to past experiences in Italy (which I won’t comment on here). Still, EXER seemed one of the better options. I had also seen a few people mention problems with getting the €900 deposit released.

Our experience, however, was very good. We arrived in Kos at 8:30 pm, it was already dark, so it was hard to clearly see the scratches and dents on the car. The staff member took photos of the vehicle, and I also took my own photos and a video. Later, I even noticed a crowbar-like bend on the driver’s and rear doors. The agent didn’t mention it, I didn’t either, but I had everything documented.

The whole process took just 10 minutes, and the agent said with a smile: “All OK, Mr. The car is yours.”

When we returned the car in daylight, he did a quick check and again said: “All OK, Mr.” He released the €900 deposit immediately and simply said “Goodbye.”

I hadn’t even purchased extra insurance – normally they insist on offering it, but this time it wasn’t even suggested.

The car wasn’t new (around 60,000 km), but it ran perfectly during our stay. Overall, we were very satisfied with the service.

Part replacement a scam

I booked an Exer car from SKG on booking.com. I hadn't heard of this company but booking.com is a reliable third-party company. I booked the car for 18 days! It was an Opel Corsa. Upon pick up the woman helping me was short and unfriendly. The car had a broken windshield and the two front seats were stained with salt water and the cover for the trunk rope was broken--not an upgrade at all. The car had several scratches that were documented by both me and the employee. She told me she was upgrading me. It did not look like an upgrade. It also didn't have carplay which made navigating difficult. Upon returning the car the same individual went out to the car and told me to stay inside. She was out there for a very long time. I finally went out there. I should be part of the review. She said there was a scratch on the hubcap of the car. I didn't disagree. It may have happened. We went inside to finish the transaction and she said that ONE hubcap will cost 320 euros. Which was 550 dollars Canadian. I looked up the cost on Google because this price seemed shocking and I showed her. It was between 30-50 euros new. She argued and said they were buying direct from the factory. I highly doubt this is a fair cost exchange as no one in Greece would be able to fix their cars on their wages. I would add, especially since they gave me a car that looked like it had been through it was a broken windshield, scratches, salt stains and scratches that one hub cap costs this much. It feels like a scam and I will never rent from Exer again. There are many companys to choose from in Thessaloniki for my lengthy stays.

Kefalonia ripped us for€200.

True a mis understanding we had to pay a new insurance and a deposit of €200.
Bring back the car they where in a hurry to bring us to the airport.
I got a recieve for the deposit refund, to a visa nummer so i told him we have no visa. He applied everything wil be good.

Really bad service

Although the company seems reliable, the service was disappointing. At return, they tried to invent issues that weren’t there and were quite impolite. On the positive side, the car itself worked well.

Terrible experience

I used ExerCars for my holiday in Rhodes, Greece. The shuttle that was supposed to take me to the vehicle pick-up location arrived late, and as a result, I had to pay a €40 “night fee” for arriving at the pick-up location after 10 p.m., even though this was not mentioned anywhere. Despite my insistence with both RentalCar and Exer, I was not reimbursed for this €40 fee. What's more, I found myself having to take out insurance with them when I had already taken out insurance with RentalCar, simply because I had a debit card and not a credit card. At least RentalCar refunded me for their insurance, but in any case, I found myself having to spend €100 more than expected. The staff were rude and unhelpful. The car, in addition to being significantly worse than the one I had selected, had a tire pressure problem from the moment they delivered it to me. Their response was that if I wanted, I could go and have it changed at my own expense at their tire shop. I obviously refused, but I found myself having to inflate the tire every 50 km throughout my vacation. Overall, terrible service.

Excellent experience

The car was in excellent condition, the terms of service very clear and the price exceptional. I particularly appreciated the responsible advice they offered, e.g. about the time they recommended to allow for vehicle return. Although the actual process lasted less than 5 minutes, I forgot a bag in the car and if I had allowed less than the recommended time I'd have missed my bus connection since I had to return to the office when the employee kindly called to let me know.

The whole experience from start to…

The whole experience from start to finish was 1st class. The staff were fantastic and spoke good English. The car was spotless and a full tour was given before setting off. They pick you up outside of the arrival door and it is just a 3 minute drive to get your car. In our case, they brought our car to pick us up, so cases etc were all in there and then. I would really recommend this company. Make sure you have credit cards etc which they tell you about in terms and conditions

Unreliable car rental company, charging too much

Booked a rental car at Exer rental company, Heraklion Airport Crete, Greece. Reserved with American Express, accepted by Booking.com.

When picking up the car, my American Express was not accepted by Exer. I should have read the 3 pages of conditions to know that. I could only rent the car at EUR 220 surcharge for using my debit card for deposit. Exer mispresented the costs for using the debit card on the final invoice by calling them HALF COLLISION DAMAGE WAIVER. Booking.com doesn't want to help and finds me responsible and agrees with Exer charging me the excessive amount of EUR 220 for the alternative payment card. This is ridiculous. Never again Booking.com or Exer.

Exer needs Credit card and dont care about service

I booked a 9-day rental through Carjet, with Exer as the provider. Carjet’s site did not make the credit card requirement clear — I paid with a debit card, only to find out at pickup that a credit card was mandatory. Even though this was not my fault, Exer offered no help. I arrived on a Saturday, their Athens office was closed, the support phone went unanswered, and my support ticket only received an automated reply. They never offered to transfer the booking to my girlfriend (arriving two days later with a credit card) and gave no alternative. My booking ended five days ago, and I still haven’t had any follow-up from them even after I opened a ticket online. My reservation was paid and confirmed, yet I left the island without the car and without any support — they now have my money and clearly don’t care.

Completely immoral company

Completely immoral company. Another car drove into us and we were advised to wait for the insurance report, we spent hours doing this, and were then instructed to return to the car rental. When we got there, they advised they didn’t have any other cars for us (which we did appreciate given it was high season) but they made us drive there just to pay them a flat fee of 975 euros, which they will not reimburse upon receipt of the payout from the insurance company. We lost a day of our trip for this and 975 euros, which they will get back because of a fault that was not ours. Absolute scam of a company and I couldn’t recommend less

Insurance scam

Booked an Exer car through Ryan Air and even paid extra for the full insurance cover. When I got to Rhodes to pick up the car they asked for a "physical" credit card to take a deposit and because I only had it on my phone they charged me 175 euro extra ( plus 100 euro cash deposit ). Strangely, the machine wouldn't work wirelessly for the 175 euro deposit but it worked fine to charge me the 175 euro extra......
Smells like a scam to me.
Never using this company again!

I suppose you get what you pay for

I suppose you get what you pay for. Shoddy company. First car had a mechanical failure and needed to be replaced causing disruption to holiday. Company refused to refund loss of rental time. Second car soon developed a problem with the lights. More senior male staff at Heraklion aggressive and unfriendly. Would not recommend - pay a little more for a reputable company.

Scammers - avoid them at Sofia airport

We rented a car via vipcars.com in advance at Sofia airport. On arrival they deliberately failed my credit card 3 times until it was blocked (I am 100% sure my pin was correct, as I used it the day before and many years before that). Changing the driver to my girlfriend and using her card was of course not allowed but for 2x the price they could give us another car (:
Would give 0/5 if possible.
Very similar things happened to 3 other groups while we were there.
Complete scam.
